lIt was perhaps the only thing Neveah and Alessio had in common, while Neveah saw a mate as an unnecessary burden, Alessio had always considered a mate nothing but a weakness.

And Neveah did understand why, after watching his mother grow unreasonable and vindictive after the betrayal of her mate...

Alessio had come to detest the effect of the mate bond and how much it consumed a wolf shifter.

He would always say ’A King’s will was his alone.’, the insignificant feelings of love and companionship were nothing but weaknesses.

It was funny how he and everyone else was willing to blame everything and anyone else for the Alpha King’s mistake but the Alpha King himself.

Somehow, Alpha King Lothaire Raul was the victim and Neveah was the evildoer, it was truly laughable.

"I... I couldn’t sleep and I came out for a walk in the woods even when I’m not supposed to." Neveah murmured, finally giving a response to Alessio’s question.

Neveah figured there was no use trying to lie, she had come out from the forest after all.

"You couldn’t sleep?" Alessio asked in a blank tone.

Neveah knew Alessio would not buy her excuse if she did not make some effort to make it sound real.

"Yes, your grace. I couldn’t sleep. My back still hurts and I cannot lie on it or even rest it against anything." Neveah said.

Neveah recalled she had been brutally whipped by Alessio sometime in the day by their father’s orders, naturally she could not have recovered so quickly.

Even if the flesh wounds had healed up with the help of the healing potion, as someone who was merely human, the injured areas would still feel sore.

"Father granted you a healing potion, did he not? It should take away the pain." Alessio replied with a raised brow.

"I smashed it against the wall and could only salvage a little when I was calmer, the surface injuries have healed."

"Your grace need not be concerned that I have left evidence of the whippings behind." Neveah murmured in a formal tone, bowing her head slightly.

"You’re going around smashing things now, how dignified." Alessio murmured as he moved.

As Alessio approached Neveah with slow steps, Neveah’s hands clenched into fists as she struggled to remain standing in place when every cell in her body screamed for her to run in the other direction.

Somehow, Neveah managed to maintain her composure, even when Alessio’s mouthwatering scent invaded her nostrils and clouded her senses.

’Mate...’ Neveah’s wolf murmured in her mind, not for any reason other than the fact that even in this lifetime, Alessio still remained her fated mate.

The words Neveah’s wolf said in her mind were said in a tone of resignation.

Neveah was not even surprised she could now recognize Prince Alessio as her mate even before her eighteenth birthday when he would be able to recognize her.

It was because she already knew of it and so that veil of the unknown surrounding a mate that had always been right before your eyes had been shed off.

Alessio stopped just an inch away from Neveah and Neveah stiffened, prepared to counter attack at the slightest signs of danger.

If Prince Alessio wanted to kill her again in this lifetime, he would not find it as easy as he had found it in the past.

Neveah had already resolved in her heart that if ever her life was threatened again, she would never go down without a fight.

"What...you feel wronged?" Alessio asked, his green orbs glowing as he stared into Neveah’s eyes with intensity.

Neveah knew Alessio was baiting her, provoking her to say a word that would justify him harming her,

It was a little game they always played, a game Neveah was much more adept at since she always knew the right things to say to get Alessio riled up.

"I do not feel what I am not allowed to feel." Neveah replied in a blank tone and Prince Alessio quirked a brow.

"So you mean to say you do not blame me for hurting you?" Alessio asked in disbelief.

"I defied father’s orders. The punishment was granted by father, you executed father’s orders... what is there to blame? As I have said, I do not feel what I am not allowed to." Neveah murmured in response, keeping her gaze blank.

"Truly? Then what shall we make of the feelings you have developed for the Varleston boy?" Alessio asked.

Neveah frowned slightly, nearly loosing her composure at the mention of Lucas.

"My association with the young alpha of Eclipse Claw is upon the terms set in place by father." Neveah said, managing to retain her blank expression.

"And father had you warm his bed?" Alessio said in a dark tone.

Neveah had already expected these words, Alpha Queen Vilma had ensured to spread false rumours of Neveah’s lack of dignity, just to ensure those in the Eclipse Fang who didn’t already detest Neveah would now detest her more.

It was as though the Alpha Queen believed if Neveah was shamed enough, it would somehow make up for the shame she had suffered due to her mate’s infidelity.

"I fulfill father’s orders with the skills he had me learn." Neveah replied blankly.

"So you did sleep with him..." Alessio murmured as his hand lifted to grip Neveah’s chin, tilting her lowered gaze up to his face.

However after a moment of just staring into Neveah’s fierce gaze, Alessio must have seen something unexpected because his hand dropped back to his side.

"You did not sleep with him." Alessio said as though it has suddenly dawned on him that Neveah was only saying that to get a rise out of him.

Neveah did not refute his words, instead her gaze remained blank, staring ahead.

"Speak, omega." Alessio warned when Neveah did not respond.

"Does it matter... your grace? These are my personal affairs and father has at least granted me allowance to keep these to myself." Neveah reminded.

"Do not threaten me with my father." Alessio snarled,

"You know, you never do know your place and so you have no one to blame for your misfortunes but your ownself." Alessio added, his gaze narrowed into a glare.

Neveah swallowed down a mirthless chuckle, truly she had no one to blame for her fate than her ownself. How could she dare blame anyone?

"Your Grace is right. My birth in itself is a crime, since I have committed so great a crime, I shall live with the consequences." Neveah murmured.

"You have gotten bolder Omega... is it the confidence given by the Eclipse Hunt wolves?" Alessio asked and Neveah frowned slightly.

"Do not feign ignorance Omega, father tells me Alpha Dane has requested to take you with him to Eclipse Hunt...was this your arrangement?" Alessio asked.

"The Alpha of Eclipse Hunt is not mine to command, how is it that I have arranged this?" Neveah asked and Alessio scoffed audibly.

"I know you Omega, I know just what a sly, manipulative vixen you are. Do not think you can fool me." Alessio said.

Alessio then closed the short distance between them and leaned down so he was right beside her ear.

"And do not even dream of that freedom you desire... I will never let you have it. You cannot escape me Omega...you can never escape me." Alessio swore, his words sending a chill of terror down Neveah’s back.

As Alessio strolled away, Neveah’s hand clenched even tighter as she headed into her quarters.

Stepping in, she slammed the door shut, her eyes gleaming with malice and hate.

Neveah had wondered for what purpose she had been granted a new life when she could not be assured things would be any different from her previous lifetime,

But she understood it now... Alessio Terran Lothaire, that monster who had vowed she would never be free of him, he was her purpose

Alessio Terran Lothaire, this was an existence Neveah knew could never share the same sky with her... one way or the other, their paths would cross and someone would have to die.

Neveah would never let him off... she would never forgive the wrong he had done to her.

"I will destroy him, I will destroy everything he holds dear. I will take all that he has and I will make certain he lives a life much worse than death."

"This detestable throne for which I died in the previous lifetime...this power which I held no desire for, this Eclipse throne which stands above all..."

"For the wrongs done to me, that will be my compensation. I will take it as mine or destroy it completely...till that day, I Neveah Omega Lothaire will never see death again." Neveah vowed in a deadly tone.

"We have to leave Eclipse Fang as soon as possible... that is the only way we can truly change our fate." Neveah’s wolf said to her, in approval of her decision.

"Then so we shall." Neveah replied as blood dripped down her fists from where her claws dug into her skin.
