Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 404: Never Worthy ()
"Considerations..." Neveah murmured quietly but said nothing more of it.
There was truly nothing more to be said, this turn of events was not completed unexpected and Neveah was not as obsessed with the results of the trial as she would have been at some point.
It was already clear to Neveah that she could not expect much from the dragons, they had a dynasty to protect and war with the Fae clans would be troublesome.
"It would still be easy to stage a mysterious death subsequently, I do not plan on letting her get out of this alive... the council are alone on that decision." Kaideon assured Neveah.
Neveah passed a glance over to Kaideon, a small smile playing on her lips.
Kaideon’s words were both amusing and comforting, comforting because Neveah knew he did mean every word and would do exactly as he had said if she allowed it.
"It’s fine, I only wanted to protect myself and Davina. I’m not looking to trigger a war or push the dragons into one. There is already enough to deal with as it is." Neveah replied with a shake of her head.
"Veah...you know you do not have to put up with any of this right?" Kaideon asked Neveah in a serious tone.
"What can I do then, leave?" Neveah replied with a question of her own.
"With the troll golem taken care of, I will have to return to my fortress soon. Come home with me to the white dunes, no one dares offend you in your own territory." Kaideon offered hopefully.
Neveah was quiet for a long moment, thinking over Kaideon’s offer.
As much as it sounded tempting to be done with everything in dragon keep and leave for a place where she did not have to battle for her life with every passing day, there was more to dragon keep than just the struggles and hardship it presented.
"I have accepted Menarx’s bond, the first merging is complete. I cannot back out of it now, I cannot bear to hurt him in such a way." Neveah said with a quiet sigh.
"Neveah, do you love him?" Kaideon asked.
It was a question that Neveah had put off answering for so long yet as Kaideon brought it up, Neveah felt the need to seek for the answer.
What was love exactly? Neveah was not certain she had ever known what it meant but if this feeling of completeness, of absolute trust and the warm, fuzzy sensations in her heart were not insanity, then what else could it be?
"I do... I do love him." Neveah realized.
Kaideon chuckled quietly, nodding his head in approval.
"Well, I do not like him...or anyone, for that matter. But Menarx is a worthy choice." Kaideon reluctantly approved.
"On that note, I would remind you that he is most likely out of his mind looking for you by now. He should be here any moment now, you both would have a lot to say." Kaideon murmured.
Neveah sighed quietly, nodding her head in agreement.
"Veah, you have a home now. I dearly wish you’d never forget that. You do not have to do anything yourself from now on, the dune dragons will always be behind you." Kaideon reminded Neveah.
"Even so, I am just so proud of your strength and everything you have grown to be, child." Kaideon admitted, he reached out and patted Neveah’s head adoringly before he got up to his feet, intending to take his leave.
Just as Kaideon predicted, in the next moment, Neveah sensed Menarx’s presence, but he was not alone.
"I see your dragon is not so good at reading the room. Since he has come, say all you need to, hold nothing back. That is the only way you can move forward." Kaideon murmured as Menarx and King Jian stepped out from the tree line.
"Veah!" Menarx exclaimed in alarm seeing how close Neveah was to the cliff’s edge.
"What is he doing here?" Neveah asked without glancing back.
"Get over here!" King Jian ordered.
"I’m fine... it’s fine." Neveah spoke up quickly as Kaideon’s brows twitched in annoyance.
"My Liege, I believe you have done enough. I will excuse myself, lest I do more than enough." Kaideon said as he took his leave.
"Veah, I’m sorry..." Menarx began to apologize as he walked over to Neveah but Neveah cut him off.
"Why should you be sorry? You knew nothing of it." Neveah dismissed Menarx’s apology.
She got up to her feet, staring in silence at a guilty looking Menarx.
"I won’t jump, Narx. It wouldn’t be right to die for him." Neveah murmured, finally sparing a look to King Jian.
"The fairy is stripped from all titles including those of fae nobility and banished to the ice fortress of fort scabbard. It is a severe enough punishment for the weight of her crimes." King Jian relayed to Neveah as though that would make anything better.
"Banishment? How thoughtful of you. Should I kneel to express my gratitude that you finally did what you should have a long time ago?" Neveah deadpanned.
"Veah, please don’t..." Menarx tried to calm Neveah but Neveah interrupted him again.
"Narx, do not get involved." Neveah warned.
"Let her speak." King Jian said to Menarx, staring at Neveah with a raised brow.
The look on his face was perfectly calm as always, as though he had not wronged anyone and Neveah just wished she could slap that look off his face
"Your Grace, I have tried to be cordial with you, heaven knows I have. But nothing has changed today from the first day we crossed paths."
"Well, I am done trying. By all means, keep pushing me, because I will always push back."
" I am Neveah Omega Lothaire, King Jian and you might have the world at your feet, but in my eyes, you’re nothing but a self serving, cold dragon with a pride too great that he cannot admit his own wrong."
"Even at this moment until my last day, you will never be worthy enough to be my king." Neveah made clear.
With that said, Neveah strode past King Jian and headed back to the Keep.
