Chapter 393: The Voice 2 (Ch.393)

Neveah chuckled guiltily, Estelle had only just arrived and she already knew Neveah was not the most favored person in Dragon Keep.

It was not that Neveah cared to be, it was just hard to hear of her own not so great reputation.

"Fine, but only until Everon says it’s okay for me to return to my activities. I am not accustomed to this...not since I arrived Dragon Keep at least." Neveah insisted.

"Agreed." Estelle gave in without hesitation.

Estelle took a seat by the bed side as Neveah ate.

"You know, I also find it hard to relate with anyone around here other than you and Lord Everon, and Dante is so busy these past days." Estelle admitted.

"How come?" Neveah asked, referring to Dante.

"The dragon lords are making plans for Fort Blazed and will need the Scabbard dragons, Fort Scabbard is the closest Fort to Fort Blazed." Estelle explained.

"Dante is the young lord of Fort Scabbard, he will be actively involved. I do know the dragon lords are keeping me out of the loop in concern for my safety, but..." Estelle trailed off.

"But you believe you have earned the rights to be involved in the fate of your Fortress, seeing as you are it’s heiress." Neveah completed knowingly.

"I know I am being silly, they have everything under control and I will only cause trouble." Estelle murmured with a sigh.

"What greater trouble than what has already happened? If this is what you want, what is stopping you then?"

"To my knowledge, the dragon lords do not discriminate against women and riders are equally as respected as the dragon lord themselves." Neveah pointed out.

"It’s just...well, I have not been very involved in the affairs of Fort Blazed all my life, I’m guessing the Lord dragons already know this." Estelle explained.

"Have you said anything of this to His Grace? Or the King’s guard? Or even Lord Everon?" Neveah asked with a raised brow.

"No... no, just Dante." Estelle admitted.

"Then you have done nothing. All they know is that you do not care for state affairs, Estelle. Because that is the image you are painting by letting them get away with leaving you out."

"No one would know more about Fort Blazed than you would, not even Dante and no one deserves a seat at the table more than you...so you make that clear." Neveah advised.

"What are you waiting for? An official invite from the king’s guard? An invite to perform your own duties?"

"If you want to be the heiress of Fort Blazed, then you do not sit here sulking, you go and be just that." Neveah murmured as she set her tray aside, shaking her head slightly at Estelle’s fragility.

"You are right. I didn’t think of it that way." Estelle admitted honestly.

"My guess is, you are much too accustomed to feeling sorry for yourself, Estelle. Nothing gets handed to anyone on a silver platter."

"If my knowledge about the situation at Fort Blazed is right, then it is real danger and no one will hand a child a sword to battle. If you keep playing a child, do not expect any regard here in Dragon Keep."

"They keep you out of it because you have not shown that you can be of help and if you cannot prove that, it is equally best you stay out of their way." Neveah finished.

Neveah knew her words were a little harsh but she did not see any reason to sugarcoat it.

"I see why people don’t like you, Neveah." Estelle said, laughing quietly.

Neveah shrugged casually, she was going to say more but that voice in her head surfaced once again.

’Omega!’ The voice snarled fiercely.

Neveah winced, lifting a hand to cradle her head as her temple ached terribly from the effect of whatever was at work in her mind.

"Veah, are you alright? Shall I send for Lord Everon?" Estelle asked, rushing over to Neveah.

Neveah shook her head slightly, lifting a hand to stop Estelle from coming any closer.

Neveah gritted her teeth through the pain. It took a moment, but the pain receded, however that sharp, tugging feeling in her gut did not fade in the slightest.

"I... I think I have to be somewhere..." Neveah muttered to herself, it dawned on her that whatever this voice was, it was leading her somewhere.

And the more Neveah tried to ignore it, the more insistent it would become.

"You have to be where? The rider’s council?" Estelle asked in confusion.

"Perhaps... perhaps that is it." Neveah murmured as she stood up straight and made to head out of her quarters but she stopped halfway.

Neveah glanced down at her dressing, frowning slightly before she headed out, making her way from Menarx’s quarters on the second level down to her own quarters.

Neveah fetched a riding dress the moment she arrived at her quarters and quickly changed into it, all the while, Estelle followed right behind Neveah in confusion.

Once Neveah was properly dressed, she headed out of her quarters and headed back up to the third level.

Neveah made for the audience hall the moment she stepped out of the ascending room but was stopped in her tracks when that voice came again.

’Omega!’ The voice hissed, this time even more demanding.

Neveah realized she was not headed in the right direction, she turned and let her feet guide her till she found herself at the landing platform of the third level.

And on that same landing platform, there were two other people but only one that Neveah recognized.

"Davina?" Neveah called to the young woman who stood, staring blankly ahead.

It only took that one look for Neveah to realize something was terribly wrong with the girl she knew.

"Lady of Ruby Scales, you should not be here..." The man who stood with Davina said.

"And who might you be?" Neveah asked, but changed her mind.

"You know what? I do not care, I will have a word with Davina." Neveah said in a dismissing tone, walking over to Davina.

The unfamiliar man moved quickly, blocking Neveah’s path...an action that did not sit well with Neveah.
