Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 377: All Leads Back ()
"The anchor through the middle of the snow flake...that is my clan’s sigil, it engraves itself on our coming of age." Kaideon said to Neveah from where he sat.
Neveah glanced over at Kaideon and he turned his hand over, revealing a black marking that was indeed similar to an anchor etched on his upper arm.
Truly, that exact marking cut through the snowflake, giving the central line a different appearance from a usual snowflake.
Neveah felt the strength leave her legs and she collapsed to a sitting position on the ground.
"Veah!" Kaideon exclaimed in concern, hurrying over to Neveah.
"Are you alright? Shall I send for Everon?" Kaideon asked but Neveah shook her head slightly.
"I am fine... I just...need a moment." Neveah whispered quietly.
Kaideon nodded in understanding and took a seat beside Neveah, he said nothing more but just sat by her, staring ahead in silence.
The silence was comfortable and understanding, it made it easier for Neveah to sort out her thoughts one after the other.
It was hard to come to terms with the fact that she had been living a lie for eighteen years and two lifetimes, she had even died once wrapped up in that lie.
As harsh as Neveah’s reality had been, it was the only life Neveah had known and now, the universe dropped it right in Neveah’s face that it had all been one big joke.
Neveah was not sure how to feel, she did not even have the strength to rage or lament, she could only mull over all she had just heard in silence.
As Neveah sorted through her thoughts, more questions arose in her mind.
"Why did you and my mother part? And why did she leave me at the doorstep of the Eclipse palace? If she did not want me, she could have at least brought me to you..." Neveah asked.
"Veah, I truly do not have all the answers. But the one thing I know is your mother would never abandon you... she would rather die than do such." Kaideon said in a firm tone.
"Eighteen years ago, Eira and I were discovered by her father and her pack, the Royal Winter Pack. The elders of the pack were caught in a bind, neither of us could leave behind our duties yet we could not be kept apart."
"Eira’s father loathed the fact that it appeared the only thing that could be done was Eira would have to give up her life for me, and for that, he hated me." Kaideon sighed heavily.
"I was going to leave the White Dunes behind, break my oath for her but Eira would not hear of it. A dragon could not be free living in a territory where we were still believed to be myths."
"She pleaded with her father to grant us his blessings and choose another heir but he was adamant and sent me away."
"I had no choice but to leave, Eira assured me she was the only one who could change her father’s mind and my presence would be of no help."
"And so for a month, we had to stay apart. I did my duties as Dune Lord while awaiting word from Eira. She gave me this pendant then, it was our only means of communication."
"This pendant is enchanted by witches, I could hear Eira’s voice through it but it exhausted the strength of the original bearer and was only to be used for urgent purposes." Kaideon revealed
"Eventually, they came up with a decision. Eira sent word of it to me. She had a little brother that was a decade younger than she was, too young to inherit the pack and he did not bear the creator’s mark."
"A ritual would be performed for Eira’s mark to be transferred to her little brother and her father would rule till the young one was of age to take the throne,"
"This process would take four months... and afterwards, I would go bring Eira home to the White Dunes." Kaideon’s voice cracked slightly at this point but he sucked in a deep breath and carried on.
"I waited and four months quickly ran by, and still I heard no word from Eira. I made flight for the Winter Domain but arrived to hostile reception."
"Eira had disappeared three months ago and the Winter Domain believed I snatched her away and broke my promise to abide by their decision."
"I swore to them that I had nothing to do with Eira’s disappearance, and that left us all with no knowledge of what had happened to Eira and it had already been three months!" Kaideon released a shaky breath.
"I loathed myself for not being more cautious, for ever leaving her side! I searched for her for years Veah, as far and as wide as I could but there was nothing, not even the slightest signs of her existence everywhere I looked!"
"Like Eira had disappeared off the surface of the earth...it was an impossible situation, but I was helpless and so was Eira’s family."
"Eira’s brother told me Eira had wanted to tell me something urgently before she disappeared, but they never knew what it was... I realize now that it was about you, Eira was going to tell me she was carrying my child." Kaideon whispered.
"I did not know of your existence Veah and I do not fully understand what happened even till this day, but believe me, your mother was the most loving woman. She was steadfast and honourable, her words were her bond."
"She would never abandon you and she would never leave me if she had a choice in it."
"Dragon offsprings are not easily conceived, your mother knew this and even assured me we would foster a child if we could not have one of our own. Neither your mother nor I would ever conceive the idea of abandoning our miracle." Kaideon swore.
"You mean...my mother could have encountered a dangerous situation?" Neveah asked quietly.
"Something did happen to your mother Veah and I never had any leads, but now I realize it all leads back to the Eclipse Domain." Kaideon said in a dark tone, a deadly glint shining in his eyes.
