Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 368: For Dear Life 2 ()
"I’m sorry Lady, this is an express delivery meant for someone high up in the ranks... don’t take it out on the messenger, we’re all just doing our jobs here." Neveah wheezed out.
"I will have your tongue!" The dark fairy hissed in rage.
Neveah expected another toss but when nothing happened, she found something else had caught the attention of the dark fairy.
The box in Neveah’s hand gave off a strange glow and Neveah glanced down at it with astonishment.
"Exactly who are you again? And why are you trusted to hold that item?" The dark fairy asked suspiciously.
"Oh me? I’m guessing you’ve heard of the scandalous wolf princess causing trouble around Dragon Keep?...Yeah that’s me." Neveah murmured in response, still cradling the box tightly to herself.
The glow was warm against Neveah’s chest, but it had no other effect and so Neveah surmised it was nothing dangerous.
The wheels spun in Neveah’s head as she tried to figure out a way to get away from this dark fairy, having the box in her hands was no achievement when she could not protect it.
If the dark fairy made a move now when Neveah could barely lift a finger, she would snatch away the box with no trouble.
"I have heard of you. You were captured away from your home and brought here against your will, your life in Dragon Keep has not been the most pleasant too." The dark fairy said.
"You are only but a pitiful child far away from home and your loved ones, it must be hard on you to live under the control of the dragons. You must detest them." The dark fairy said in a sympathetic tone.
"You are well informed. It is hard on me indeed." Neveah murmured, finding the narrative of the dark fairy amusing despite the situation.
Everyone assumed the wolf princess had a terrible experience in Dragon Keep, even the dragons themselves.
And while the things Neveah had been forced to endure in Dragon Keep could not be justified,
No one understood that nothing they could do here could hold a candle to Neveah’s true reality back in the Eclipse Domain.
Why would Neveah care to hate the dragons for disregarding her when her own family had treated her even worse?
"And you are willing to sacrifice your life for the dragons that have showed you no kindness?" The dark fairy asked again.
This question gave Neveah pause. Was she willing to sacrifice her life for the dragons? To die for their cause?
Unlike most, Neveah would believe she had more reasons to cherish her life. The life she had now had been hard won and death was always lurking around the corner for her.
So far, Neveah had been lucky to still be alive. Was this life something she would give away so easily?
Neveah did not have to think it over for too long to know the answer.
"Well, most of them can be pretty annoying. But there are a few...who have become family."
"Family is not always as perfect as we would hope for it to be, but I hear people do everything for family even so..."
"While I am not so accomplished in the family regard, I guess it’s worth a shot." Neveah murmured quietly.
Her words were said more to her own self than to the dark fairy, but of course, the dark fairy did not appreciate Neveah’s stand.
"Very well then, you will have your wish." The dark fairy hissed.
Neveah’s eyes fluttered closed as she sensed the dark fairy’s attack, it was funny how she felt no fear for her own life at this moment.
Just a melancholic feeling as thoughts of Menarx came to mind once again.
However Neveah’s eyes came open again when a burst of golden light shot out of the box, knocking the dark fairy down.
Eyes wide, Neveah glanced down at the box that had returned to it’s dim glow and was perfectly intact while the dark fairy groaned in pain.
There was no time for Neveah to ponder over what exactly this box was and what it was capable of, nor did it matter as Neveah’s only goal was protecting it.
This was Neveah’s chance! Neveah struggled up to her feet and stumbled ahead, pushing her aching muscles to keep moving through the pain.
Neveah felt lightheaded and black spots danced across her vision but she kept moving. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
’We have lost too much blood and I cannot heal.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
Neveah grunted beneath her breath as she held unto trees for support to get ahead, but she was getting nowhere.
Shifting at this time seemed impossible, whatever the dark fairy had done to Neveah’s blood completely messed up her constitution.
The cut on her wrist still bled, it had soaked up the fabric Neveah tied it up with and Neveah’s blood had completely dyed the wooden box red.
Neveah did not get far before she collapsed to the ground, all the strength leaving her muscles.
Neveah glanced over at the box in her hands, a sigh escaping her lips as she struggled to fight the unconsciousness that tugged at her.
But it was too late, the amount of blood Neveah had already lost was enough to put her life in danger and she was not healing.
Neveah could sense the dark fairy approaching, it was a painful reality that she would not be able to protect the box or her own life.
’There is nothing to be done. Jian that cold hearted bastard would have my head for this...if I live to face his wrath.’ Neveah thought to herself as her consciousness slipped away,
Leaving Neveah lying unconscious on the cold forest floor, bleeding out and at the mercy of the dark fairy that had just caught up with Neveah.
The box in Neveah’s hand still gave off it’s dim glow before it finally went dark, returning to it’s original state.
And whatever events happened beyond this were lost to Neveah’s unconsciousness.
