Chapter 367: For Dear Life (Ch.367)

"Elle, what is this? Put that away!" Dante hissed, attempting to rise up to his feet.

Dante froze in place when Estelle only pressed the blade in closer to Neveah’s neck, drawing blood.

"If you make any sudden movements, I will truly kill her." Estelle warned in a sinister tone that hardly sounded like hers at all.

"Elle, what..." Dante began to question again but Neveah cut him off.

"Her eyes Dante, what do they look like?" Neveah asked.

Dante was the only one who could see Estelle since Neveah’s back was turned to her.

"They have a strange glow... something is wrong." Dante murmured in horror.

"Dark magic." Neveah supplied.

"Elle, listen to me, whatever this is, you have to overcome it... this is not you!" Dante tried, his eyes widening slightly when Estelle pressed the blade in closer.

"I... she’s making me, she wants me to hurt Neveah. She has the key... she wants the item..." Estelle stuttered out in an unsteady tone.

Neveah’s hand unconsciously moved to rest over the satchel on her back.

"As much as everyone’s wants are valid, you and I both know this is going nowhere." Neveah murmured slowly and cautiously.

Estelle’s hand which held the blade trembled visibly, it was clear she was struggling to retract her hand but her body would not listen.

Neveah remained frozen in place, contemplating on how best she could handle this situation without hurting Estelle.

The dagger was right at Neveah’s throat, any sudden movements she made at this time would trigger Estelle to make good on the will of whoever was behind this.

"Estelle, you have to fight this..." Neveah began but was cut off by Estelle.

"I’m trying!" Estelle hissed, her blade moving from Neveah’s neck for a split second.

In that split second, Neveah was quick to jump away from Estelle, even as Dante tackled Estelle,

They swiftly secured the blade, but not before Estelle’s dagger swiped at Neveah, landing a deep cut across her right wrist.

"Neveah!" Dante exclaimed in concern as he restrained a struggling and shrieking Estelle with his one good hand.

Neveah hissed in pain, cradling her injured wrist as it bled profusely. The cut was deep, Neveah could tell from how it felt.

"You have to go! Go!" Estelle yelled at Neveah whilst still fighting against Dante’s hold.

It was like she could barely control her own mind, whereas she had no control over her own body whatsoever.

Neveah glanced around, Dante and Estelle could figure things out themselves, the last thing Estelle would do was hurt Dante.

But the item was now in Neveah’s hands and neither Estelle nor Dante could ensure it’s safety.

Neveah ripped a part of her tunic and quickly wrapped it around her bleeding wrist to slow the bleeding somehow.

"She’s coming! You cannot fight her, Run, Neveah!" Estelle shrieked.

"Scales!" Neveah hissed in annoyance as she turned and dashed away as fast as her legs could carry her.

Once again, Neveah found herself running through the forest for dear life, and this time, the threat was not a monstrous golem but some mind controlling fairy she could not see.

’Veah, you’re bleeding out!’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

’Why isn’t it healing?!’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.

’The effect of the troll golem’s dark magic has not faded. You have to stop and tend to your wound!’ Neveah’s wolf reasoned.

’No...no, that’s not an option.’ Neveah replied with a shake of her head.

Instead, she shifted into her wolf form, increasing her pace.

Neveah was not even sure what she was running from, all she knew was that the sooner she got to Menarx or King Jian, the better it would be for everyone.

Neveah could only get so far before she was thrown off her paws by a powerful burst of magic,

She tumbled through the air, crashing down to the ground some distance away.

Neveah felt her entire body spasm with pain and she was not sure how much of it was from the fall and how much was caused by the woman with obsidian wings that flew right over Neveah.

Neveah struggled to get up but instead, her bones crack and reformed, her body reverting back to her human form against her will.

Neveah was face flat on the ground and she could not get up no matter how hard she tried, just like Estelle, her body would not listen, like it was no longer hers.

Neveah could not see the face of the dark fairy or any discerning feature at all, she could only catch sight of the obsidian wings that reflected from a puddle of water not far from Neveah.

"Have you ever heard of blood magic?" The woman asked Neveah who still struggled against her hold.

As the dark fairy said this, the waves of pain rushing through Neveah’s body intensified, like the blood in her veins was flowing backwards.

"Another dark art meant to do only harm and no good to the world? It’s one thing after the other with you dark fairies." Neveah forced out through gritted teeth. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"Hmmm, I guess you could say that." The dark fairy murmured with a quiet chuckle.

"You know what I want girl, hand it over." The dark fairy demanded.

"I know what you want? A little too forward for a first meeting, don’t you think?" Neveah asked in a clueless tone.

The dark fairy clearly did not appreciate Neveah’s joke.

Neveah was again tossed across the forest by an invisible force and the satchel on her back fell off, the box within rolling out to the floor.

Right before Neveah also crashed heavily to the ground again, the force of impact was jarring and Neveah was sure a few bones had been impaired.

"Oh, there it is." The dark fairy murmured.

Neveah hissed in pain, the box had fallen not so great a distance away from her and so she reached for it, grabbing it and pulling it close to her chest, holding it tightly.

"I’m sorry Lady, this is an express delivery meant for someone high up in the ranks... don’t take it out on the messenger, we’re all just doing our jobs here." Neveah wheezed out in a pained tone.
