Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 366: Safest Bet ()
With Estelle gone, Neveah was left seeing to Dante.
Other than the numbness in his right hand that was swiftly spreading, Dante would be just fine.
It was only that he would not be at his strongest for the next few hours, which brought about another cause for concern. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
The satchel Neveah wore on her back weighed down heavily, Neveah was not sure if it was the satchel itself or just her own thoughts.
But Neveah knew within this satchel was whatever it was Lord Decaron had been ordered to escort back to the citadel.
’Lord Decaron must have handed it to Estelle believing it would be in safer hands if they brought it to the Dragon King.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
’Indeed, but they could not have guessed then that the troll golem would appear and neither going to the Dragon King nor returning to the camp is an option at this time.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.
’It would mean this item is indeed what the dark fairies are after, like we predicted. It would also mean they will find out soon enough that it is not in Lord Decaron’s hands.’ Neveah’s wolf continued with her assertions.
’Though his intentions were good, Lord Decaron already made that obvious the moment he lured the attackers away by himself.’
’ Dante is a capable battle dragon comparable to at least the fifth squadron, why would he need Decaron’s protection or escape a fight? Unless there is something of greater importance.’ Neveah replied to her wolf.
’Whoever studies the situation carefully will figure out Lord Decaron’s ruse. I assume he believed it would keep the attention on him long enough and buy Dante and Estelle time to get to King Jian if nothing else.’ Neveah added.
’All of this was dependent on King Jian’s position. The mind links were intercepted, just like Menarx, Lord Decaron could not establish communication with the Dragon King before coming to this decision.’
’ He must not have realized the attack was not just on him but a full scale battle on the entire second squadron.’ Neveah surmised.
’The question now is, if we cannot go to the Dragon King, to Menarx or to the camp... how are we to keep this item safe? You have sent Eidon away.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded.
’I did not realize the situation in time, neither did I anticipate Dante would be poisoned. All this seems too well planned, with Dante weakened, we can only hope for Eidon’s swift return.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf.
"When Elle returns, we must leave." Dante said to Neveah, drawing her out of her thoughts.
Neveah shook her head slightly and focused on Dante.
"In your condition? If we wait it out an hour or so, the blue bell flower will take effect and restrict the spread of the paralyzing effect."
"Your muscles will regain strength only if you allow them recover." Neveah said in concern.
"Lady Neveah, we have to be on the move. It is much safer that way." Dante replied, though he gave no explanation for his words.
Neveah nodded slowly in understanding.
"Very well, as soon as Estelle returns, we will leave as you said." Neveah agreed.
"We will go find Menarx." Neveah added.
"Lord Menarx is sure to be by My Liege’s side. Which means the troll golem." Dante reminded.
Neveah shook her head slightly in disagreement.
"There is no communication between any party, so that is not for certain."
"And if it were to be so, Menarx, Cassian and King Jian together will make quick work of the troll golem."
"When it comes to a battle, even the dark fairies will stay clear of the golem who knows nothing but to kill...it will be safer there as long as we stay out of the battle." Neveah decided.
The king’s guard were the most powerful dragons in the stronghold at this time, no matter how great of a threat the troll golem was, Neveah believed it was not beyond their ability.
The troll golem was also a strong opponent but it was an angry beast regardless, a beast no matter how smart would not be tactical enough to come after the item, leaving the battle.
With the king’s guard attacking on all sides, Neveah knew they could stay in the shadows where it was safe but close enough that the item could be delivered to King Jian if it was beyond their ability to protect.
Not even the dark fairies would go near the troll golem, this made that battlefront the safest bet at this point in time.
Neveah heaved a sigh, she paced around the clearing for a moment to clear her mind and center her thoughts.
There were too many events happening in quick succession and that terrible pain in Neveah’s right hand had begun again.
’The effect of Lord Everon’s pill is wearing off and with the source close by, the strand of dark magic in our veins will react even more strongly.’ Neveah’s wolf reminded her.
’I do feel it.’ Neveah thought back to her wolf, clenching and unclenching her right fist.
The pain was still mild at the moment, just like it had been the first time Neveah noticed the cut that would not heal, but it was steadily growing.
’Perharps it is for the best, if I let it guide me, I should find the troll golem without trouble...where the troll golem is, King Jian will be.’ Neveah thought to her wolf.
’You are right. Tracking down the troll golem itself would be easier than tracking down either Menarx or the Dragon King in this vast forest.’ Neveah’s wolf agreed.
Neveah hummed her agreement as she walked over to Dante to check on him again.
Neveah crouched down just as Estelle stepped into the clearing again from the cover of trees.
Neveah glanced over her shoulder, catching sight of the blue bell flower before she returned her attention to Dante.
"You are just in time Estelle..." Neveah began but her words trailed off when a cold blade pressed against her neck.
