Chapter 362: Get Involved (Ch.362)

The forest was abnormally quiet on this day, too quiet for the battles that ravaged it at different ends.

The only sound that could be heard was that haunting tone, more audible in some areas than others.

For these glades at the very heart of the forest, the sound of that haunting tone was too far off to be heard.

But of course, the same could not be said for its effects.

It should have been dawn already, yet the entire forest was still cast in the darkness of night.

Not that Jian minded the darkness, it was a good night to rage.

And the fight Jian craved, Jian knew he would get for from the cover of trees, Jian could no longer just sense him, but he could now see him...it,

With the likeness of a man, the troll golem was exactly as Neveah had described it to be, a perfect camouflage.

Had Jian known nothing of its camouflage, he would easily have passed right by it and missed it, mistaking it for a man.

This ability the dark sorcerers had attained, this level of excellence in summoning beasts, it left a rare feeling of unease churning in the pit of his stomach.

All this while, had Jian truly underestimated the remnants of the dark sorcerers? Could it be those dark days of times so long ago were resurfacing in small bits?

Jian’s hands clenched into fists at his side. He was in the dark, not literally but in the bigger picture of things and Jian knew he could not let things lie...not anymore. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

Jian had followed the trail of the troll golem for a time now, stealthily through the shadows till it had come to a stop.

The troll golem could very well conceal it’s dark aura, was that not why it had eluded Rauron and Mauldray this long? But this time, that dark aura was heavy in the atmosphere.

Jian knew it well enough that the troll golem knew of his presence, he could sense the aura of dark energy exuded from the golem intensify.

Jian could tell the beast would transform anytime soon, revealing it’s true form.

There was no use concealing himself anymore, Jian stepped out into the clearing, his arms crossed behind his back as he watched the troll golem.

The troll golem took it’s time to turn around, it’s yellow eyes gleaming with malice.

Jian did not attack immediately, instead, he assessed the situation within his mind.

The fact that the troll golem had revealed itself to Jian of all people at this exact time and lured him so far away from the rest of the forest when dark fairies had appeared, Jian knew it was no coincidence.

Whatever attack was planned, someone wanted to keep Jian as far away from it as possible, otherwise who would dark fairies dare attack the dragon king?

This was a distraction, Jian knew it and his mind strayed to Decaron and what had been left in his care.

It was not so difficult to figure out the true purpose of this attack, though Jian still could not figure out why the dark sorcerers would be so intent on securing that item.

Even so, whoever had planned this attack had at least an idea of Jian’s personality, this was not a distraction he would turn away from.

The troll golem was the greater threat to his people, the unsuspecting humans that lived in these terrains and beyond,

It was Jian’s duty to protect his people, they would always come first, there was no two ways about it.

If Jian did not stop the troll golem now, there was no telling how much more destruction it would cause.

Jian’s mind link was still intercepted, he could not reach out to Cassian or any of the dragon lords.

Jian knew nothing of the situation beyond this clearing, but he trusted his kin would keep the world together in his absence...but the battle before him now was Jian’s own duty.

The first snap of twisting bones echoed across the quiet clearing, a surge of dark energy exploding across the expanse as the troll golem took it’s true form.

Jian eyes narrowed, a lethal glow shinning in his mismatched orbs.

_______________

The mood in Celeste’s hall was chilling and dark and she sat in the midst of it, seeming to be deep in meditation.

Though meditation would not provide Celeste the calm she truly needed,

Accompanied by her sense of duty to the winged man was a deeply unsettled feeling, and it had begun the moment she placed her dark fairies as the first line of attack in a direct battle.

"How is it?" Celeste asked in a quiet tone, she sensed the portal the moment it opened up and a dark fairy stepped out.

"We have the dragon lords where we want them to be, but we cannot hold them for long. The storm singers are being picked off one after the other... I fear..." The dark fairy trailed off in his report when Celeste’s aura changed.

"We knew the sacrifice would be great... this time, we cannot afford to disappoint him." Celeste replied firmly.

"I understand." The dark fairy replied with a nod.

"Where is the item?" Celeste asked.

"The dragon lord Decaron lured the Kobolds away, it seems he was last in possession of it." The dark fairy reported.

"He could have escaped, yet he faced the kobolds head on? One would know dragon lord Decaron is much more cautious. He would not risk placing that item in the direct line of danger." Celeste murmured.

"Then what do you suppose he has done with it?" The dark fairy asked.

"Who was last seen with the dragon lord Decaron?" Celeste asked.

"The Starron girl and the young lord of Fort Blazed." The dark fairy reported.

"Shall I see to them?" The dark fairy asked again.

"No...not this time. There can be no mistakes this time, I will have to get involved myself." Celeste decided.
