Chapter 177: Lookout (Ch.177)

Neveah stood out in the fields behind the home of Lydia and her family, it was a small field that served as a mini vegetable garden, with wooden stakes surrounding it to keep the vegetables from getting trampled.

Neveah was not certain how long she had been standing here, lost in thoughts.

After resting in bed for another day, she was already completely healed and so was her wolf.

However, four days of being indoors was one too many for Neveah and with everyone else busy with their daily business, she took a step out to take in her surrounding.

It was a regular home out in a field, a short distance from the town itself and the air was warm and clean, easing Neveah’s heart.

There was not much to see out here, but somehow Neveah found it far more calming than the luxurious Dragon Keep.

In this past day, Neveah had been mostly left to herself. Lydia was a baker and was always busy at the oven, and her grandson Roman was a bundle of energy.

Hyperactive and overly talkative, Neveah hardly got any sleep even with the young boy in the next room, however she did not mind it at all.

Even now, Neveah could still hear him chatting away with his grandma, speaking of all sorts of things that sent poor Lydia laughing hysterically at times and reprimanding him sternly at other times.

Meanwhile, Neveah had met no one else but Lydia and Roman yet. Lydia said her son who had saved Neveah was out fetching a new supply of ice while Neveah was unconscious.

The past day had been peaceful and uneventful, it had been quite sometime since Neveah could completely rest at ease and so she slept late into the morning.

It was almost noon now, and this would be the fifth day since Neveah fell down the cliff.

Neveah did not even want to wonder how things fared back in dragon keep, she knew if she did, her heart would immediately become troubled.

Neveah could still recall Menarx’s horrified scream as though it was just yesterday, it echoed in her mind and filled her heart with a gnawing guilt even when Neveah knew she had no reasons to be guilty.

Neveah did not need to ask to know Menarx would be searching for her... she did not need to wonder to know how desperately he would search.

Menarx had never bothered to hide the fact that he cared for Neveah, even when she chose not to acknowledge and chose to only remember he was one of her captors, how could she not know it?

Of the few people who truly cared for Neveah in Dragon Keep, Menarx would come only after one...a certain black scaled dragon.

Xenon...there was still Xenon whom Neveah left in such a state...

Had he overcome the wild haze? Had he heard of her fall? Was he out searching for her? Or was he relieved she had left and would no longer be a reminder of his past hurt?

There were many questions that sprang up all at once at the thought of Xenon,

With thoughts of the Dragon Keep and the dragons came too many concerns, Neveah had decided she would much rather force it all away from her mind.

"Woah... woah..." Roman’s voice drew Neveah out of her thoughts and she glanced over her shoulder to find the young lad with his arms outstretched.

As always, he was toying with his magical abilities and Neveah fixed a blank gaze on the log of wood he had hovering in the air.

"What are you doing?" Neveah asked pointedly, watching the log moving slowly and steadily through the air.

Roman stood a good distance away from it and controlled it’s movement.

Trailing the direction the log headed in, Neveah realized Roman intended to add it up to an already high pile of logs.

These were the freshly stacked wood Lydia had ordered to have delivered, she would use them to fire up her oven for another week of baking and delivering pastries.

Though Neveah had kept to herself, her ears had not. With no efforts on Neveah’s part, she heard every single word, discussion and event exchanged between Lydia and Roman from the comfort of her room.

From the left over logs from the previous delivery, there was just this hovering log left and it seemed Roman intended to stack it up with the rest since it had been lying around beside the axe.

Lydia could not split the wood herself, Neveah knew she was waiting for her son’s return, he would tend to the wood for her.

"Keeping the log out of the way." Roman replied with a bright smile.

The young lad always had a giddy smile and a starry eyed look when he spoke with Neveah or even set eyes on her and had Lydia not warned him repeatedly,

Neveah knew the young lad would never leave her to herself, it was rather cute and Neveah could not help the small smile that settled on her lips.

"Are you sure you want to mess with them? It took the workman quite sometime to stack them up so neatly." Neveah reminded.

"I’ll be done in just a moment, I only need to place it down just right over..." Roman began but cut himself off with a yelp when he lost focus.

The log of wood fell uncontrolled from the height it hovered, down on the neat stack sending all the logs rolling down everywhere.

"Eeep!!!" The young lad shrieked in horror, his hand shooting up to his mouth.

Neveah assumed Roman could picture exactly how furious Lydia would be to find the backyard in such a state.

"Keep a look out for me, I have to fix this!" Roman exclaimed quickly as he hurried over to the logs which were still rolling down from the stack.

"Lookout? Why me? I didn’t have a hand in this." Neveah replied in amusement as she glanced over at the door, her senses letting her know Lydia’s exact location in the small home.
