Chapter 175: Somewhere In Maneward (Ch.175)

When the contents of the cup was emptied, Neveah glanced back at the two unfamiliar faces, wondering if she was expected to place the cup back in the air.

When it came to magic, Neveah was always at a loss. It was a variable she was not accustomed to, werewolves were not blessed with such abilities.

In this regard, Neveah guessed the Eclipse Domain was more reassuring than the Asvarian stronghold.

At least back in the Eclipse Domain, Neveah did not have to worry about anyone casting spells on her from the comfort of their dungeons.

All that mattered then was strength... the strong ruled and everyone else would be beneath their feet.

But in the Asvarian stronghold...there were all kinds of strength, the dragon’s breath of flames,

Fairy magic and spells of dark sorcery that could conjure monsters... and perhaps many others she was yet to encounter

Neveah shook her head slightly, the mere thought of it unsettling her.

"Hand it here." The middle aged woman sorted Neveah’s confusion, taking the cup from her,

The middle aged woman handed it over to the young boy before her attention returned to Neveah.

"Where am I?" Neveah asked again, this time her voice was not as hoarse as before and her words sounded clearer,

As her voice became clear, the hostility in her chilling cold tone also became apparent.

"My bad. You are safe here, you need not worry." The middle aged woman assured with a kind smile.

After meeting Lady Adrienne and her impeccable facade, Neveah did not think she would ever fall for a kind smile again.

Neveah’s expression remained cold and she sat up on the bed, gritting her teeth against the pain that was stirred at her movement.

"My name is Lydia and this is my grandson Roman." The woman introduced quickly, realizing Neveah’s hostility would escalate if she did not start speaking.

"This is our home, in the outskirts of Maneward." Lydia informed, gesturing around Neveah.

"Maneward?" Neveah murmured quietly.

It was a name Neveah had heard before from Davina.

Of the twelve fortresses of the Asvarian stronghold,

Keep Skies, the seat of power of the dragon shifters and home to Dragon Keep was the largest fortress in size and housed the greatest population of diverse species.

There were six districts that made up the fortress, the first was of course Dragon Keep and it’s citadel.

The other five were; Downtown, South District, Tavern’s End, The Fodder and Maneward.

From what Neveah knew, Maneward was on the eastern end of Keep skies, furthermore, it was a day’s ride from Dragon Keep itself.

Neveah had never been to Maneward or any of the districts before, even when she rode out with Menarx to the South District,

They kept a distance from the human settlement and rode straight to the forest.

However, Neveah could already tell just how vast Keep Skies itself was from that one trip, she did not even want to imagine the true size of the Asvarian stronghold.

It was no wonder the tales said the dragon shifters ruled the world, it truly seemed like their territory stretched as far as the maps did.

"How did I get to Maneward...?" Neveah asked uncertainly, unable to believe she had gone a day’s ride from Dragon Keep, to another district in Keep Skies.

Whereas she was not even allowed outside Dragon Keep, save for her duties to Xenon on Mount Edar.

"Do you remember what happened to you?" Lydia asked as she took a seat beside Neveah.

"I...I fell." Neveah replied slowly.

She decided it would be wise to keep to herself the circumstances surrounding her fall till she fully understood exactly where she was and how she had come to be here.

"My son delivers the ice to Dragon Keep. He makes the trip twice in a week as ice is hardly preserved in Dragon Keep."

"The aura of the dragons penetrates even through the thick walls of the ice cellar. If the ice is not supplied regularly, the keep will run out of ice." Lydia revealed to Neveah.

"Three days ago, he headed to the keep as is his usual routine, on his return...he went past the banks of the Sunder and found you washed up on the shores." Lydia explained.

"The Sunder...?" Neveah asked uncertainly.

"The river that runs through the citadel, downtown and Tavern’s end." Lydia replied, surprised to see Neveah did not know of the Sunder.

"You have not heard of the Sunder? You are not from around here, are you?" Lydia asked.

Neveah did not respond immediately but eventually she nodded once.

There was no use acting knowledgeable, Neveah knew she would not be able to keep up the act.

Neveah had been in Dragon Keep for almost a month now, but that was as much of the Asvarian stronghold as she had seen.

Other than what Neveah read of in the history books and what Davina told her, Neveah hardly knew anything more of the Asvarian stronghold.

"You do look rather different, not a regular face at all. Even if you remained unconscious, all your injuries healed up on their own..." Lydia murmured thoughtfully.

"How did you end up washing up at the banks of the Sunder?" Lydia asked as an afterthought.

"A complex series of event." Neveah replied with a sigh,

"For how long have I been here again?" Neveah asked.

"Three days." Lydia replied.

Neveah cringed at that, she turned so her legs were off the edge of the bed and got up to her feet.

"Thank you, for your help. I have nothing of value on my being at the moment but you have my word, if we meet again, I will be certain to repay you." Neveah promised.

"You are in no position to leave yet, child. Your injuries may have healed but you were in the water for a long time, it is already a miracle you survived, your body still needs rest." Lydia stopped Neveah quickly.
