Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 174: A Familiar Feeling ()
"Her hair is the shiniest I have ever seen... and she is so beautiful mama..." An awed voice penetrated through the darkness clouding Neveah’s mind.
Just like that, the darkness slowly faded away, as did the numb feeling and Neveah felt a terrible ache in her skull.
Though Neveah’s lids felt heavy and she could not force them open no matter how hard she tried,
The pain and aches Neveah felt all over were enough to tell her this was not the afterlife, there was also the sounds from all around her, piercing her sensitive ears and aggravating the aches in her head.
’I lived?’ Neveah thought to herself in surprise.
"Hush Ro...she is waking up!" Another voice reprimanded in a low whisper.
Neveah winced, that whisper sounded much too loud in Neveah’s ears and she groaned quietly.
Slowly, and after repeated failed attempts, Neveah forced her eyes open but immediately snapped them back shut, lifting a hand to shield her eyes from the bright rays.
In that moment, Neveah’s mind replayed all that had happened...from the illusions to her fall and then back to that short moment in limbo.
Truly for a moment, Neveah had truly believed it was over for her...but unexpectedly, dying was much harder than she thought.
’Who would have thought that I could not even decide my own death?’ Neveah thought to herself, that short moment in limbo replaying through her mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darkness... once again, Neveah was faced with that suffocating darkness.
It besieged her consciousness from all around, eager to swallow her up and never let her up again.
A sliver of panic stirred up in Neveah’s heart as she shivered, though this scene was familiar...who could truly be acquainted to death?
’A life so hard won... have you really forfeited it for fear of the unknown?’ A thought stirred in Neveah’s heart out of the blue.
’A life such as yours, how can others value it when you do not?...’ Came another questioning thought.
Neveah was certain these were not her own thoughts, but in this world of darkness, trapped within her own mind...there was no one else but her.
’Is it not enough to make the best of the lot you were given?’ The thought sprung up in Neveah’s mind for the third time.
"I...I...." Neveah stuttered out, uncertain what she was to say in response to those questions.
It was only now when the troubles of her heart was calmed that Neveah saw the error in her ways...in her choice. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Neveah had thought of it too simply, death was not a solution to anything, instead it was her pathetic attempt to escape from her reality.
Strong as Neveah believed herself to be, she realized this was just her way of running and protesting against her torments.
When death was the only thing for her in the Eclipse Domain, Neveah had done everything to live...was that the same life she ended at the bottom of a river?
These were the last thoughts Neveah could fathom before her consciousness and all that it was, was swallowed up by the darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You’re awake...are you okay?" An excited voice drew Neveah out of her thoughts.
"Too... bright..." Neveah croaked out, her throat hoarse and painful.
"Oh... right!" The second voice exclaimed in a tone that was much too loud for Neveah’s well being.
There was a moment of shuffling and then the lighting in the room dimmed slightly.
Only then did Neveah let her hand drop and her eyes fluttered open once again.
Neveah squinted for a moment to adjust to the lighting before she was able to take in her environment.
As Neveah’s eyes wandered around, she realized she was in a strange, decent sized bedroom that most certainly was not her own room in Dragon Keep.
From the sounds Neveah could pick up from beyond the room and the smell of spices, Neveah could tell a meal was being prepared somewhere nearby.
The atmosphere was warm and cozy, even while being unfamiliar and that was enough to tell Neveah that this was most certainly not Dragon Keep.
With it’s cold walls that seemed to be watching one’s every move, much like every other palace Neveah had the displeasure to live in, Dragon Keep was more akin to a large, luxurious dungeon than a home.
"Wh... where am I...?" Neveah stuttered out, breaking into a coughing fit afterwards.
A pair of small feet shuffled and soon a glass of water was right in Neveah’s face...not handed over by anyone, just hovering mid air.
Neveah blinked in astonishment as she stared at the hovering glass and it was only then she paid attention to the company she had.
There was a middle aged woman with a kind smile dressed in regular clothing suited for a baker, with a white apron over her dress and her hair pulled back to a neat bun.
Neveah guessed this kind looking lady was the second voice she had been hearing all along.
And standing over at a table where a flask of water was placed, there was a young boy whose eyes were narrowed in concentration.
From a glance, he did not look to be more than seven years of age but here in the Asvarian stronghold, Neveah knew one could never judge age from a glance.
Neveah guessed this was the first voice who had complimented her hair in such an excited manner and at this moment, Neveah trailed his gaze to the hovering glass cup, her eyes widening in realization.
"Are...you doing this?" Neveah asked hoarsely.
"You should take a drink, Roman has only just picked up on this skill, his magic is still undeveloped and unreliable." The middle aged woman suggested.
Just as the woman said those words, the hovering glass tilted precariously and Neveah took it before the contents could spill.
Neveah lifted the glass to her lips, her limbs protested at the sudden movement but she ignored it, gulping down the refreshing liquid to soothe her parched throat.
