Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 130: A Wish ()
A few hours later and word of Neveah’s capture had already spread all through the Dragon Keep.
Attendants and servants of all levels discussed it in hushed tones yet no one dared speak of it out loud, whatever involved the Dragon King, the residents of the Keep knew better than to tattle about it.
"Addie, did you hear of what has happened some hours ago in the Keep?" Rosalie whispered over to Adrienne, in an attempt not to draw too much attention to her words.
In the healer’s hall, the ladies sat at their places awaiting the arrival of the junior royal healer that would handle their guidance for the day.
On a usual day, it would be junior royal healer Iden who was in charge of the trainee healers, but this was not just any day.
All the most talented royal healers had been summoned by Lord Everon up to Lord Imagor’s quarters on the second level and had not reported to the healer hall at all and it was already past noon.
"The arrogant attendant stole from Lord Everon’s private study and of all things to steal, she took away His Grace’s molt scales!"
"What is worse, the Lady Kaliana went into labor pre term! The child is still in dragon form enclosed within it’s egg, if it breaks out before it shifts to a human form...it will be trouble."
"I asked around and heard horrifying news. Cases of pre term delivery in riders are a death sentence! It is more likely the child will not live!"
"But if the child survives and because it is still in dragon form, it will tear it’s way out of it’s mother’s womb! Killing the rider instantly!" Rosalie whisper-yelled in a horrified tone.
"So terrible?" Celia asked in shock, shuddering at the mere thought of what Rosalie had just described.
"I just cannot believe a mere attendant would dare do something so horrible to the Lady Kaliana...of all the riders, she is the highest ranked as she is the only rider in the King’s guard."
"Furthermore, she is so lovable and bright too... she does not deserve such cruelty done to her. Had we known, we should have stopped that evildoer at all costs." Rosalie sighed in a regretful tone.
"We could not have known what she was up to. Lord Everon trusted her enough to leave her alone in his study, what could we say against that?"
"It is just so sad that she would make use of Lord Everon’s trust and betray him in such a cruel way. His Eminence must be shouldering so much blame." Celia murmured with a sad sigh.
Meanwhile, Adrienne sat at her place, reading through a herb journal, completely unfazed by what Rosalie had just revealed.
"Addie, you have said nothing and you do not even seem surprised. Did you already know of it?" Rosalie asked with a raised brow.
Rosalie had hurried over to break the news and she had expected to get quite the reaction from both her friends but only Celia commented on Rosalie’s revelation.
Adrienne had not said a single word and she did not even pass Rosalie a glance as though what Rosalie had to say was of no consequence.
"Surprised? Why should I be? An outsider lurks around the healer hall and the Dragon Keep unrestrained, doing as she pleases."
"There is neither law nor order binding her, what is next then? She grows bold and commits a heinous act." Adrienne replied blankly, without glancing up from her book.
"That is true, so much trust was given to a mere stranger. What more could anyone expect?" Celia said with a shake of her head.
"What can be done for the Lady Kaliana now, if the child must be born, between mother and child, one would have to live while the other..." Rosalie trailed off, not daring to complete her sentence.
"His Eminence will find a way, Lady Kaliana’s pregnancy term has been a risk right from the start...we can only hope on His Eminence this time." Celia replied, before she picked up her journal and continued studying it.
"Oh...right, lest I forget. Word has it that His Eminence put forth a decree, whoever is able to proffer a solution to Lady Kaliana’s complications will be granted a single wish from the His Grace, King Jian."
"Hence, all the royal healers and even some trainees have hurried over to try their hand at it... whoever is able to save Lady Kaliana and the child will earn the gratitude of His Grace and the King’s guard." Rosalie announced the final news she had heard.
It was only at this point that Adrienne lifted her gaze from the journal she had been so focused on all the while.
"The gratitude of His Grace... and a wish?" Adrienne asked again, to be sure she heard Rosalie correctly.
"Indeed! Isn’t it a great opportunity? It’s no wonder the junior royal healers and even Duncan are nowhere to be found, everyone is seeking an opportunity to gain His Grace’s favor!" Rosalie said, excited to have finally said something that was of interest to Adrienne.
"Hmm..." Adrienne hummed in response, her gaze reverting back to the journal.
"Addie, will you not give it a try? Even Duncan is eager to jump at such opportunity. Perhaps you may catch the eye of a Dragon Lord or even one of the King’s guard!" Rosalie said excitedly.
"There are so many healers taking up the task already and even His Eminence shall not relent in his efforts, if there is a way out, His Eminence will find it first."
"And if His Eminence cannot find it, then how could anyone else hope to?" Adrienne replied in a blank and uninterested tone.
"I hear teams of healers depart the Keep and the academy in droves, their purpose is to go in search of molt scales... for those who cannot come up with a method, they hope to find an already established solution." Rosalie added, shaking her head slightly.
"How long has it been since the last molt scales bloomed? Six decades? For a herb that grows but once in a century, there is still four decades left... how can the molt scales be found?" Celia countered with a scoff.
"If only a single bloom of molt scale would just fall out of the sky, right into my lap...or even if I were to find the molt scale snatched by that Evildoer... wouldn’t it be just perfect?" Rosalie sighed wistfully.
"And what would you wish for, in such a case? For the arrogant attendant to be executed?" Celia asked, laughing quietly at Rosalie’s dreamy look.
"Why should I bother? She is set to be interrogated by His Grace at dawn. If she confesses to her crime and provides the molt scale, she would be executed for laying a hand on royal property,"
"Yet if she does not provide it and anything goes wrong, she will still be executed. That is if the raging Lord Imagor does not get to her first."
"Either ways, she will get what’s coming to her. She is already doomed, why waste my wish on her?" Rosalie replied with a scoff.
"Hear, hear." Celia concurred.
"A wish from the Supreme King himself? One could ask for the whole world even... what would one do with such a wish? I would not even know what to ask for." Rosalie continued with a dreamy sigh.
Celia laughed, tossing a pen at Rosalie who winked in response.
"Girls, it seems the guidance for today shall not hold. Yet I am sure we shall turn in our journals as soon as healer Iden returns."
"Now, the time spent on mine last night has ensured it is up to date and in perfect condition to be submitted. I do not suppose you both can claim the same?" Adrienne reminded with a smile.
"Urggh! The keep is bustling with the expected arrival of dune dragons and the uproar caused by that evildoer, yet we still have to sit here filling journals?!" Rosalie bemoaned in a tone of devastation.
"Whatever made me dream of a career as a healer?" Celia sighed in agreement to Rosalie’s lament.
"We both know it had everything to do with His eminence’s... comely appearance..." Rosalie teased, earning herself a dark glare from a red faced Celia.
"Well then, I will leave you girls to it. I shall retire to my quarters first." Adrienne said as she picked up her coat and headed out of the healer’s hall.
But as soon as she stepped out, the path she took was not one that led back to the fourth level at all, instead it led right out of the Keep where a carriage awaited her.
Without saying much, Adrienne stepped into the carriage and it was put in motion, heading farther and farther away from the Keep until it could no longer be seen.
Where Adrienne was headed...well, for the time, it could not be known.
