Omega's Rebirth-Chapter 126: Overgrown Pup ()
Jian stood at his balcony just as he always did, it was so late already but he still could not find sleep,
It was not much of a surprise to Jian since this was not the first time he was in such a position... Jian could not recall the last time he slept soundly in decades, he was used to it now.
"Everon and Imagor have descended to the archives, they should find what is needed in time for the arrival of the dune dragons. Cassian and Kirgan flew out to receive the Dune Lord..." Menarx began as he strode into Jian’s room.
"What do you suppose the dune lord would want with records of the shadow swamp? It is a portion of history that was excluded for a reason." Menarx pondered aloud.
This was the same thought on Jian’s mind, Kaideon had sent an energy signal along with a message of his arrival, he also made such an absurd request but would not explain why he needed the records.
"It is Kaideon...he shall have a worthy reason." Jian replied, assured in Kaideon’s prudence.
"I agree, the Dune Lord has not made flight for Dragon Keep in decades, he has never had cause to announce his coming with such urgency... Hence, I worry." Menarx divulged.
Jian hummed in response, he would have given a reply instead but his attention was drawn to a familiar figure sneaking about the keep far down below.
Now, Jian was up on the highest level and it would be impossible to see all the way down so many floors, had it not been for dragon sight.
Menarx walked over to Jian and trailed his gaze, a single brow curling up when he set eyes on what Jian was staring at.
It was not a what at all but a who...a familiar beauty, despite her black dress that blended perfectly into the shadows of the night, her golden tresses gave away her identity like a shining beacon.
"Isn’t that..." Menarx began but trailed off when Jian passed him a glare.
"The wolf princess I ordered you to keep an eye on?" Jian reminded and Menarx pursed his lips.
"Neveah sees to her duty within the keep and never does anything out of place. I do not dare neglect your orders, My Liege." Menarx asserted.
Jian did not say anything else, instead they both watched Neveah as she glanced back and forth to ensure she was not followed or being watched, how could she realize there were eyes fixed on her from high up in the highest level?
"What is she up to?" Menarx murmured, feeling unsettled that Jian was also watching this play out.
If Neveah did anything untoward that triggered Jian’s wrath, Menarx would not be able to save her. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
However, it became apparent to the two dragons when Neveah’s golden tresses disappeared behind a bush and soon emerging was a massive wolf with fur of midnight blue that gleamed in the moonlight.
"She has not taken her wolf form since leaving the Eclipse Domain...the necessity must have arisen." Menarx reasoned with Jian when he took note of Jian’s narrowed gaze.
"You speak up for the wolf princess now?" Jian asked in a blank tone.
Menarx had no response and so he lowered his head instead.
"Why? Gratitude for saving your life?" Jian asked.
"She didn’t save just mine..." Menarx began to protest but his mouth snapped shut when Jian fixed him with a glare.
"What I meant to say is... Neveah has done nothing to trigger my suspicion yet...My Liege." Menarx adjusted.
"You have never needed a reason to be suspicious of anyone, Narx. What is so different about this time?" Jian pointed out.
"My Liege... she is just a child, and she did not ask to be brought here or be given off as a bargaining chip by her father... we brought her here ourselves,"
"Should she commit us a wrong, I bear in mind that she owes us no loyalty in the first place." Menarx revealed his stance.
"Hmmm... interesting. You keep your eyes on her then...as for you, I will be watching you...you may leave." Jian dismissed.
Menarx bowed and took his leave, while Jian remained watching the midnight blue wolf dashing away into the woods behind the keep.
Though Jian was unwilling to admit it, he truly could not refute the words Menarx had said.
More than being a threat... the wolf princess was the victim in all this and so, though it displeased Jian to see a foreigner sneaking about his keep, Jian decided he could turn a blind eye this time.
"Overgrown pup..." Jian grumbled to himself as he retreated back.

The night breeze felt pleasantly cold brushing over Neveah’s fur as she dashed through the woods, her paws digging into the moist earth.
Neveah had left control to her wolf, her wolf was the one who needed this moment of freedom the most.
For how long they had been running, Neveah was not certain, her wolf had made a turn sometime during her run and so Neveah knew they were already making it back to the castle.
"Far beyond these woods, I smell water...a lot of it, there should be a waterfall..." Neveah’s wolf thought to her.
"Water washes off scent trails... when it is time to leave, those currents may be our best...yet most dangerous bet." Neveah thought back, understanding her wolf’s meaning.

"The Asvarian stronghold and it’s Dragon Keep was built a decade after the dragons ceased power, and leading the charge was Agardan the vanquisher, who lead the dragons to dominion."
"The stronghold and the Great Keep was a consolidation of the supreme rule of the dragons, a dynasty that surpassed every other that had come before it. Agardan the vanquisher, by a unanimous agreement of the Lord Dragons was crowned Dragon King."
"The records of the great feats of Agardan and the birth of his title as the vanquisher are written in the geneology of the heralds of the Asvarian stronghold..." Neveah trailed off at this point, staring down at the large volume in her hands with horror.
"This can’t be how it ends... I have read page after page with so much attention and all I get is a summary? It barely tells anything of what happened!" Neveah bemoaned in disappointment.
It was another day as an attendant to Lord Xenon and after setting Xenon’s needs in order as she did every morning, she headed straight to Mount Edar in the early hours of the morning.
Neveah did not make a stop at the healer’s hall today, there was no cause to since Lord Everon had not returned to his hall since he was summoned away by who Neveah assumed must have been the dragon king.
Neveah arrived at Xenon’s cave to meet an infuriating sight, Xenon had gone hunting and there was a pile of animals waiting for her to skin.
Davina had reiterated that this was a part of Neveah’s duty, but all this while, Neveah’s visits to Xenon’s cave had been more relaxing than tasking and she was beginning to get used to it.
Now, the trouble did not lie in skinning the animals,
Neveah knew fully well that a dragon’s diet was raw meat, there was no need for her to go through all the trouble to skin and roast Xenon’s kills when he could just gobble them down in his dragon form,
But it had only taken a withering glare from Xenon to jolt her into action and Neveah had gotten elbow deep into blood and gore.
In Neveah’s defence, she truly was not accorded the preferential treatment of a princess in the Eclipse Domain, however that did not mean she was all that experienced in skinning animals.
For one, it felt like an inhumane thing to do since Neveah could practically envision her own beautiful fur being pulled off...it was not a scenario she wanted to picture any further.
However, Neveah had successfully skinned the animals and set them to roast and after getting tidied up, she returned to the outer cavern where she began reading to a slumbering Xenon who was in his dragon form.
Xenon’s eyes fluttered open at Neveah’s sudden exclamation, there was a questioning look in his large amber orbs as he stared at Neveah and Neveah sighed.
"How is it that I am tasked to read the narration of historical accounts but nothing about the events and how they played out exactly?" Neveah questioned in a sulking tone.
"It makes no sense at all. Who was Agardan the vanquisher, how did he liberate the dragons? How did he conquer the lands? Did he have a rider? What was the color of his scales?" Neveah inquired, the questions streaming out one after the other.
A quiet grunt sounded from Xenon and Neveah could not decide if it was a snort of amusement, or just a regular grunt.
"I sit here reading to you day after day, the least you can do is hear out my complaints. I can’t make them to Lord Rodrick or that Dragon King of yours and so it’s all on you." Neveah clarified.
Xenon’s eyes fluttered closed again as though dismissing Neveah and Neveah glared at him in indignation.
