North American Detective: I am Proficient in All Kinds of Gun Quick Draws-Chapter 549 - 317_2
If this were not the era of firearms, with these inferior products, the Lucifer Organization could build a powerful cannon fodder army. This was also something Dr. Sean always regretted. After all, times had changed.
...
On the cruise ship, Dean sat cross-legged with his eyes closed, resting his mind. Having finished his tasks, Cheston En voluntarily stood by Dean, preventing others from disturbing him. Everything was as Dean had predicted. After listening to the accounts from the people on the cruise ship, those who came from the cargo ship felt something was amiss. However, with no other choice, they used flag signals to inform those still on the cargo ship. The captain of the cargo ship also agreed to first transfer the food and water on board to the cruise ship and then transfer the remaining people in batches.
This action made the people on the cruise ship feel guilty. After all, even a captain involved in human smuggling was willing to risk imprisonment later; he hadn't chosen to abandon the stowaways. Yet they, in their fight for survival, had acted so dishonorably. However, guilty as they felt, nobody chose to tell the truth to the sailors who rowed back to the cargo ship because the truly kind-hearted people had already been beaten to death by the group.
When the escape boat from the cargo ship returned, cheers erupted from the stowaways on the cargo ship. According to the returning sailors, they would need to pay ten thousand US dollars as a fee for the cruise ship's rescue, but at least they would survive! Moreover, the people on the cruise ship had agreed to accept payment in installments. The sailors were also happy. Since the cruise ship occupants had asked for money, the possibility of being reported later was low. They wouldn't face jail time and could still live, so they had no complaints.
The captain of the cargo ship watched the cheering stowaways and sailors, a sarcastic smirk on his face. He clapped his hands. "Alright, guys, it's getting late! Hurry and load all the food onto the small boat. We need to transfer everyone to the cruise ship before sunset!"
With their lives at stake, nobody slacked off. The adult stowaways also stepped forward to help. Before long, the escape boat was filled with food and water. But this time, the cargo ship's captain didn't send only the previous sailors. "For safety," he announced, "I'll have my bodyguards accompany you this time."
The people on the cargo ship involuntarily looked behind the captain. There stood two men with intimidatingly powerful builds. In the memories of the stowaways and the recently recruited sailors, these two men had been silent from the start, always expressionless, and only moved about beside the captain. Naturally, nobody objected to the captain's suggestion. Nor did they dare to voice any objections in front of the two burly men.
Quickly, the small boat, loaded with food and water, once again set off toward the nearby cruise ship.
...
Since they couldn't operate the cruise ship's equipment, the people on board had to work together. They manually turned the wheel, using the ship's pulley system to lift the now much heavier small boat from the sea to the side of the cruise ship. They had already discussed their plan while the small boat was making trips back and forth: as soon as the food and water were on board, they would eliminate the sailors who came with it. That way, they would not only get food and water but also keep the small boat as a final escape route.
As for the cargo ship? Heh. Without them lowering the platform, even if the other side still had an escape boat, they wouldn't be able to board the cruise ship. They would be powerless against them!
As the small boat was being pulled up, Cheston En turned to say something but realized Dean, who had been sitting, had already risen and was proactively walking over. Cheston En hurriedly followed. Dean's good looks made him highly recognizable among the cruise ship's "players." Seeing him step forward as if to help, someone blocked his path with a disdainful look. "Buddy, you didn't lift a finger earlier, nor did you participate later. You have no right to share the food!"
Several other able-bodied men stood behind the speaker, backing him up.
Cheston En quickly stepped forward, retorting unhappily, "What are you talking about? This whole plan was my boss's idea! Otherwise, you'd all still be clueless!"
The speaker merely smirked and didn't move. The others also sneered, forming a human wall to block them from the food and water being unloaded.
Off to the side, Black Widow's two teammates saw the situation. One whispered, "Deputy Leader, should we help?"
Black Widow shook her head. "I can't figure this guy out. Let's wait and see." Hearing this, her two teammates said no more.
...
Dean scanned the crowd, his gaze lingering for a moment on the two motionless burly men in the small boat. He then held back Cheston En, who was rolling up his sleeves, and said, "If they're not willing, then forget it."
"Alright, Dean," Cheston En replied, "but if I don't get any food or water soon, I'm afraid I won't even be able to lift this pipe." He waved the steel pipe in his hand and, somewhat reluctantly, followed Dean to the side.
Seeing them voluntarily back down, the man who had spoken earlier snorted coldly. Pointing at Black Widow and her two teammates, he said unceremoniously, "And you three, get lost! You don't get a share either!"
At his words, the other men brandished their steel pipes, their eyes savage. These men, who had now tasted blood, had undergone a significant change in demeanor since first boarding the ship. Clearly, this was a premeditated event. The food and water were almost in their grasp. They began to unite, preparing to first eliminate those they perceived as the biggest threats.
Seeing the bloodlust in their eyes, annoyance flashed in Black Widow's. These bastards can all die here! She touched her abdomen and, with her two teammates, walked over to Dean and Cheston En.
Seeing this, the united men detailed a few from their group to watch Dean's party of five before they began moving the food and water.
Because of the sea breeze, the sailors in the small boat were unaware of what was happening on deck. They muttered a few complaints but quickly cooperated with the people on deck to unload the food and water. The provisions were swiftly moved onto the deck.
By this time, the two sailors in the small boat sensed that something was amiss. The way these people from the cruise ship stared at the food and water was intensely greedy, as if they hadn't eaten in days. Their gazes towards the sailors were now hostile, a stark contrast to their initial friendliness when the sailors first boarded! They exchanged glances and looked pleadingly at the two bodyguards, who hadn't moved an inch. One sailor whispered, "Something isn't right, gentlemen. Should we…"
Before he could finish, the two expressionless, burly men's blank eyes twitched. They suddenly rose, knocking the two unsuspecting sailors off the small boat, then leaped powerfully themselves.
THUD.
Both men landed squarely on the deck.
The group discussing how to divide the food and water stared dumbfounded at the two burly men who had suddenly appeared. They jumped up here?
"FK! They actually came up on their own! Get 'em!" a man standing to the side yelled. As the words left his mouth, the steel pipe in his hand smashed violently onto the head of one of the burly men.
A sickening THWACK sounded. Blood trickled from the man's temple, running down past his ear to his neck. Yet, he seemed like a puppet, utterly oblivious. His dull gaze silently followed a persistent voice in his head, sweeping over everyone before finally locking onto a tall, handsome man watching the commotion from a distance.
Just as they were about to move toward that target, a deluge of data from all over the world began flooding the island base. Blaring alarms sounded incessantly. Red alert lights flashed throughout the entire island base. Inside, personnel in one research lab after another leaped to their feet in shock, wondering what was happening.
In Laboratory One, Dr. Sean stared furiously at the blank screens. "What in the world is going on?!"
...
Almost at the exact moment the base came under attack, on the cruise ship, the two brawny men, who had been about to step forward, froze. They retracted their feet, turned their heads, and stared at the people surrounding them, their eyes now bloodthirsty...
