Chapter 400: Chapter 398: Memories Evoked by Scenery [Part 3]

"BOSS."

"Go back."

Even though Elijah Reed really wanted to stay, Liam Spencer sent him away considering the bigger picture.

In the ward, Maya Spencer didn’t close her eyes all night, holding Ella Turner’s hand, keeping vigil by her bedside. Liam Spencer, on the other hand, stood behind her, watching over her.

At five in the morning the next day, Ella Turner woke up.

She glanced around the ward and then looked at Maya and Maya, who were guarding the room. In an instant, she collapsed again, bursting into tears.

Seeing this, Maya immediately embraced her, constantly comforting her, saying Ethan Turner hasn’t left, he’s right here beside them, watching her.

At nine o’clock in the morning, Liam Spencer’s other assistant picked up Ella Turner’s parents from the airport to the hospital.

Upon hearing the news of Ethan Turner’s death, Ella’s mother could not bear it and fainted. Maya rushed around taking care of them, which made Liam Spencer’s heart ache.

Despite Liam Spencer arranging hired help and caregivers, and even consulting a psychologist, Maya still personally handled everything.

At eleven o’clock in the afternoon, Elijah Reed hurriedly arrived at the hospital and pulled Liam Spencer out of the ward.

In the VIP lounge, Elijah Reed reported, "BOSS, I think the car accident isn’t that simple. Although the surveillance didn’t capture the accident scene, a netizen posted a video on Weibo recorded from their dashcam. I’ve downloaded the video."

Elijah Reed said, handing the phone to Liam Spencer.

Liam Spencer took the phone, opened the video, and saw Ethan Turner’s car moving slowly. Later, he turned on the right signal light intending to pull over, but the frozen truck in front suddenly swerved to the right without a warning, causing Ethan’s car to rear-end it.

But just then, the frozen truck behind did not slow down; instead, it accelerated, pushing Ethan’s car forward, crashing both vehicles several meters ahead. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Liam Spencer watched the accident footage, frowning deeply, finding the incident more and more bizarre.

"How about the drivers of these two trucks?" Liam Spencer asked.

"The driver of the first truck wasn’t injured. He said there was a scorched smell in his truck, so he changed lanes. The driver of the truck behind was slightly injured but has woken up. He said he was just on the phone, realized there was a car ahead, intended to brake, but accidentally accelerated instead, and he said he is willing to take full responsibility and seemed sincere. But it all seems a bit too coincidental." Elijah Reed watched the video countless times, though the drivers’ claims had no loopholes, he still felt skeptical.

"Keep following up on this." Liam Spencer instructed.

"Yes, I’ve already filed a case with the police, and they’re inspecting the vehicles involved in the accident. The specific situation at the time of the accident will be known once Ethan Turner’s colleague wakes up."

Regarding Ethan Turner’s speed and why he suddenly signaled were mysteries; could they have argued in the car? But Ethan wasn’t someone who would argue with colleagues.

"Investigate this matter, but for now, don’t tell the Turner Family, their emotions are already highly volatile; impulsive actions might ensue."

"Yes, BOSS." Elijah Reed did not mention anything fearing extreme actions, so he pulled Liam Spencer aside.

When Liam Spencer returned to the suite, Maya was still busy wiping Ella’s face.

Seeing Maya’s tired appearance made his heart ache, so he said: "Maya, take a rest, there are things you can leave to the maids and caregivers."

"I’m not tired." Maya was sad for Ella, for Ethan, just wanting to do something for them, but what hurt her was that no matter what she did, Ethan would not come back.

"Maya take a break. I’m alright, I know my brother is right here with us, watching over us." Ella choked out.

"Ella, regarding the arrangements for your brother, your father and I have discussed it: the day after tomorrow is the cremation, and your parents will take his ashes back to be placed in your hometown. They hope you will go with them and stay by their side." Liam Spencer didn’t mention he had already had doctors inspect the body, looking for clues.

The Turners were either sick or faint, so Liam Spencer took on the post-event responsibilities; Maya considered them family, and so did he.

Hearing Liam Spencer’s words, Ella clenched her teeth and said: "I’m not going back, my brother was always careful when driving, he wouldn’t get into an accident without a reason. Those two trucks must have been intentional, I need to investigate the cause."

Ethan Turner was cautious in his dealings and life; whenever Ella drove out, he would remind her to drive slowly, be careful. So Ella couldn’t believe he would have a car accident.

Liam Spencer saw Ella was firmly stating her brother’s accident wasn’t simple, so he didn’t persuade her to go back to care for her parents, because she realized she deserved to know the truth.

Thus, he calmly said: "Yes, Elijah Reed is investigating the matter, and any progress will be immediately told to you. If anything is needed, you can find Maya, me, or Elijah Reed."

"Thank you, Principal." Faced with Liam Spencer’s assistance, Ella felt deeply grateful.

...

Three days later, Liam Spencer dispatched a private plane to send the Turner parents and Ethan’s ashes back to their hometown.

However, Ethan’s colleague remained in a coma, with little progress showing traces of some hallucinogenic substances found in both Ethan and his colleague’s bodies.

But this was of no help to the case, as the police speculated they might have accidentally ingested some drugs before driving. Also, no connection could be found between the truck drivers and Ethan or his colleague.

So, the case was still being dealt with as a traffic accident so far.

In Ethan Turner’s apartment, Ella Turner hugged Ethan’s stuffed toy, sitting motionless on the sofa, unwilling to believe her brother had mistakenly consumed something leading to a poor mental state and an accident.

These days, Maya stayed by Ella’s side, worried about seeing her not speaking, sitting dazedly, fearing she might take things hard.

So she took the toy from her arms, saying: "Ella, come home with me, stay at my place, alright?"

Remaining in Ethan’s apartment only deepened Ella’s grief, making her more upset and depressed.

"Maya, you don’t need to worry about me. I’m okay, I know my brother is right here with me. You’ve been worn out these past days, please go and rest." Ella seemed understanding but was not calm internally, and Maya’s sleepless efforts over the past three days also distressed her.

But she refused to leave Ethan’s home, afraid that her brother might feel lonely alone at home, so she stayed to accompany him.

"Maya." At this time, Liam Spencer arrived, observing Maya’s disheveled look made his heart ache, wanting dearly to take her away.
