No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 399 - 397: Life and Death Are Determined by Fate [Part 2]
Although Maya Spencer wasn’t Ethan Turner’s biological sister, Ethan treated her the same as Ella Turner. In his heart, Maya had long been a part of their family, as if she and Ella were twin sisters, as if she were his own sister.
Beside him, Liam Spencer looked at Maya’s distraught crying and began to choke up.
He had seen Maya suffer from depression, seen her go mad, attempt suicide, and feel despair, but he had never seen Maya cry so sadly and painfully for someone, as though she and Ethan came from the same womb.
He watched her tears fall, watched her tightly embrace Ella, face pressed against hers, crying bitterly, and felt heartbroken.
He thought he never wanted Maya to feel such pain for him, to cry for him so miserably.
If one day one of them had to leave first, he hoped it would be Maya, not him. He would rather be the one to grieve and feel heartbroken than leave her alone in this world, suffering.
Elijah Reed looked at Maya’s heart-wrenching appearance and couldn’t help but shed tears.
He sniffled, squatted before Maya and Ella, tugged at her hand, and urged, "Miss Spencer, please accept my condolences. I’ll take Ella to the ward to rest, you should rest for a while too."
"Ella, Ethan..." Maya held tightly to Ella, unwilling for Elijah to take her away.
Liam saw this, squatted behind Maya, and held her tightly. He had no words of comfort, couldn’t find any words to comfort her, other than offering her a hug, accompanying her. He felt powerless.
For the first time, he felt so useless, unable to provide her comfort, unable to make her feel better.
Once Liam lifted Maya, Elijah took Ella away, laying her on the bed in the ward.
At the rescue room’s door, Maya clasped Liam’s arms tightly, with tears never ceasing. She felt deeply saddened, unable to calm herself, unable to stop crying.
Liam looked at the girl in his arms with heartache, seeing Ethan inside the rescue room, he also felt miserable.
Ethan’s departure made him feel how fragile life was, making him hold Maya tighter, wanting to cherish every moment with her.
Moments later, Maya pushed Liam away, wiped her tears, and walked toward the rescue room.
Liam followed her, saw her trying to lift the white cloth covering Ethan, and immediately grasped her wrist.
He feared that seeing it would make Maya feel worse.
Seeing Liam stopping her, Maya’s tears ’pitter-patter’ spilled out again.
She turned around, pitifully looking at Liam, pleading, "I want to see Ethan, I really want to see him. We were just having dinner together two days ago, how could he die?"
"Maya, seeing him might be too much to bear."
"Ethan surely isn’t dead, surely he’s just asleep. Once I see him, he’ll wake up. Brother, let me see him," Maya cried and pleaded.
Liam watched Maya’s unstoppable tears, feeling unable to refuse her anymore, thus released her hand.
Once freed, Maya slowly raised her trembling little hand but didn’t dare to quickly lift the white cloth covering him.
"Maya," Liam hugged her shoulders, hoping she would give up the thought.
Maya shook her head and explained, "Maybe the hospital made a mistake, maybe this person is not Ethan at all." At this moment, Maya still held onto fantasy.
Liam said no more. He knew she wouldn’t be at peace without seeing Ethan herself.
Moments later, Maya finally lifted the white cloth with trembling little hands.
She saw Ethan resting with closed eyes, still looking handsome but with a pale face, without a trace of blood or vitality, and with minor wounds on his forehead and cheeks.
Looking at the familiar face in front of her, tears poured down again, gently touching Ethan’s fair face, saying, "Ethan, please, please wake up, alright? Don’t leave, alright? If you leave, what about Ella? What about uncle and aunt? Please, I beg you, please wake up, alright?"
Liam saw Maya’s emotional breakdown again, quickly covered back the white cloth and hugged Maya, comforting, "Maya, we should go see Ella now. When she wakes up, and you’re not there, she’ll be very sad."
"Let me see Ethan one more time." Hugged by Liam, Maya tightly held onto Ethan’s hand, refusing to let go, even thinking he was only asleep, believing he’d wake up.
"Maya." Liam, seeing Maya unwilling to accept reality, suddenly held her in his arms, patting her back, as comfort.
Maya feeling Liam’s solid chest, her small hands tightly gripping his back’s clothes, asked, "Brother, why did this happen? Why did Ethan die?"
"Maya, life and death are fate. Stop crying, if Ethan sees you and Ella like this, he’ll be sad. He’s not gone; he’s right here beside you, watching over you." Liam never consoled anyone, didn’t know how to comfort.
But he wanted to say pleasing words to make Maya feel less miserable.
Although Maya desperately wanted Ethan to wake up, Liam still took her away, lest her emotions break down again.
In the VIP ward, when Liam led Maya in, Elijah was using a towel to wipe Ella’s face.
Seeing Liam and Maya arrive, he quickly stood up from the chair and reported, "BOSS, the doctor said Ella experienced excessive shock; there are no other issues. She cried for too long, refused to eat or drink, leading to dehydration symptoms, so I had the doctor administer nutrients."
"Hmm!" Liam responded then turned to Maya and said, "Maya, you need to be strong. Now that Ella’s unconscious, she needs your care. When her parents arrive tomorrow, the situation might worsen, so you have to be strong, don’t let yourself collapse. You have to take good care of them for Ethan, understand?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Liam seized the chance to encourage Maya, hoping she’d pull herself together and shoulder the responsibility of caring for the Turner family.
Because he didn’t know, if he didn’t instill this thought, whether Maya would continue being sad to the point her depression might resurface. If it did, problems would only become more complicated; he didn’t want to experience suicide situations again.
Listening to Liam’s encouragement, Maya quickly wiped away her tears and promised, "I won’t cry. I will be strong. I will take good care of Ella and uncle and aunt for Ethan."
"How obedient Maya is." Liam rubbed her head in a show of encouragement.
Then, Maya took the towel from Elijah’s hand, and afterward continued to wipe Ella’s face and hands.
Then she tightly held onto her hand, keeping vigil by her bed.
Seeing Maya calm down, Liam told Elijah, "Elijah, you go rest first. The next few days, there’ll be a lot of things to do."
"BOSS, I’m not tired."
"Your spirit can endure, but your body can’t. The car accident case needs thorough investigation. You’ll need to follow up on it, so go rest."
