Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Digging up Gossip

Indeed, I took it seriously.

As a result, I paid the price with my life and spent it as a stranger in the conversations of those I had once deeply loved.

The sadness of youth seems to come and go quickly. With the phrase, "Could you spend tonight with me, my dear?" Hannah was pulled by Louis Snyder into the largest bar in the city.

It was the weekend, the busiest time.

Hannah stood at the entrance, looked up at the flamboyant sign, and hesitantly said, "Louis, do I really have to go? My dormitory will soon..."

"Let’s go, my dear." Louis interrupted her before she could finish her sentence and pulled her into the bar.

The bar was very loud, with music blaring. It was nearly full of people who had come to vent and indulge. Youngsters were entangled in passionate dance on the central stage.

Hannah quickly averted her gaze and stuck close to Louis Snyder.

However, she was astonished when she turned around and found that Louis Snyder had disappeared. She had to search for him in the crowd. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

On the second floor, through the transparent windows, all the scenery on the first floor could be seen clearly.

In contrast to the boisterousness below, the private room on the second floor was exceptionally quiet, with occasional bursts of laughter and the sound of clinking glasses.

In the room, there was a newly rich second-generation, Harvey Cooper. His family made their fortune from their mall business, a typical nouveau riche, however, he was quite honest.

In a game of cards, Harvey lost two hundred thousand dollars. He generously transferred the money without hesitation, took a gulp of his drink, and then couldn’t help looking again at the man sitting in the middle.

The man was casually dressed. His attire didn’t reveal any brand names but judging from the design and fabric, it was definitely not cheap. He held a few playing cards in his hand, appearing utterly calm, as if he was completely uninterested in the card game he was in.

Half of his face was obscured in the shadows, but the visible half was attractive and bewitchingly beautiful.

"Hey, who is that guy? How come I’ve never seen him before?" Harvey couldn’t resist his curiosity and patted Oliver Taylor sitting next to him.

Oliver frowned and lowered his voice, "Quiet down, he’s the Second Young Master from the Simmons family, not someone we can mess with lightly. You better be careful, this guy hates when people get too close to him without good reason."

Oliver then reached for the cigarettes on the table, but realized last-minute that Arnold was still there, so he quickly put them away, "You see, if he’s not in a good mood and he stomps his feet a bit, many of us could be directly affected."

What Oliver said was no exaggeration; he had watched as Arnold grew step by step.

How did he react back when the then destitute and clandestine illegitimate son approached him for a partnership?

He thought it was a joke.

But the eyes of the boy who had approached him then were too fierce and cold.

Inexplicably, he thought, a few million dollars was not a big deal, so why not try it.

Ever since then, he had made a fortune, and the old man who always favored his illegitimate son never dared to call him a worthless wimp again.

Harvey was also shocked to hear this.

He had only heard of a Second Young Master from the Simmons family who was ruthless on the business battlefield, and he had no idea he was now sitting next to him.

Harvey did not know about the connection between Oliver and Arnold. All he knew was rumors about the disappearance of the Eldest Young Master of the Simmons family, Jimmy Simmons. He couldn’t help asking, "Could the disappearance of the Eldest Young Master Jimmy Simmons really have something to do with this guy?"

Their circle had been buzzing about this speculation for a while.
