No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1938: Hayes Edwards Extra (95)
Harry Huston’s nickname is "Little Fatty".
But now that he’s grown up, he looks quite good with nice features and he’s quite tall.
When he recognized Grace Winter, he was so shocked that he could hardly speak, like he was holding his breath. After a while, he finally said, "You... where have you been all these years?"
No one knew where Grace Winter went that year; it was vaguely heard that she went abroad.
It was during such an important time when high school entrance exam results were coming out, and she left for five years.
Harry Huston looked at Hayes Edwards, and then at Grace Winter, but in the end, he pressed down his stomach full of questions.
At the dinner table, they were chatting and started talking about their childhood. Now that Grace Winter was back, they didn’t have to hold back like they used to.
Hayes Edwards would occasionally chime in a sentence or two, but most of the time, he was busy grilling meat and serving dishes for Grace Winter.
They talked about things from their kindergarten days. Although many things were already fuzzy memories, every time they talked about them, they were especially happy.
From kindergarten to elementary school, and from elementary school to middle school, Rainbow Candy Kindergarten and Dawn Light Middle School are their shared memories.
Mentioning them again, the blue sky and white clouds, and the crowds on the playground seemed to reappear before them.
However, many places had changed.
On their way back, they passed by the school gate, and the small shop across run by Helena’s family had changed owners long ago; it had become a stationery store. It’s said Helena’s family now runs a supermarket.
The big banyan tree out front is still there, but the big yellow dog that used to always nap and sunbathe under it is no longer seen.
Many things are changing, and everyone is just trying to find corners that are the same as in their memories. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
During the weekend, Father Edwards and Mother Edwards came back from their travels, and they were startled to see a girl suddenly appear at home.
They thought Hayes Edwards had brought a girlfriend back.
But when Hayes Edwards introduced her as Grace Winter, they were even more surprised.
Even though they hadn’t seen her for so many years, Mother Edwards often mentioned Grace Winter. After all, she watched her grow up, so how couldn’t she miss her.
Before dinner started, Mother Edwards was almost always holding Grace Winter’s hand, asking her how she had been over the years and if she was unaccustomed to living abroad.
Grace Winter’s lips curled into a smile, a very faint one, "I’m living with my grandmother now, wanted to come back and have a look."
Mother Edwards patted her hand gently and said warmly, "Now that you’re back, stay with us this year for the New Year."
"Okay." Grace Winter said with a smile.
After dinner, Mother Edwards urged Hayes Edwards and Grace Winter to go for a walk, "Grace hasn’t been back for so many years, take her out for a look."
Before he could say anything, the door shut right in front of him.
Hayes Edwards: "..."
Grace Winter looked up at him from the side, her expression just like when she was a child, looking both obedient and "silly".
"Let’s go." He said.
Grace Winter followed him down the stairs.
As the Spring Festival approached, there was a festive air in the neighborhood. You could hear the sounds of children setting off firecrackers, and the basketball court was crowded.
There were the elderly, adults, and children.
The lights nearby were on, casting warm, yellowish shadows.
The day before Chinese New Year’s Eve, the temperature dropped below zero. Hayes Edwards was sleeping soundly when he heard someone knocking at the door and a whispering "Hayes".
No one else would call him that except Grace Winter.
It was like going back to childhood.
