Chapter 31: Chaos in Western City Front

Seeing more survivors willing to step in and help made Aamon curious. He left the shop and headed west, toward where the survivors were gathering.

Many of them stood clustered along the city street. Aamon was different. He climbed up one of the buildings and stood on the rooftop, giving him a clear view of everything below.

No one else was on the roof. Aamon walked to the edge and watched as more and more survivors arrived.

Three people wearing different faction uniforms stood at the front. Aamon narrowed his eyes, intrigued by them.

The three began to speak, firing up the survivors, boosting their morale and confidence. Not just their own faction members, they were also inviting unaffiliated survivors to join them.

"We’ll do it like usual. If we beat them before, then we can do it again now!" the man declared firmly.

All the survivors cheered. One soldier rushed in and reported that a wave of monsters was approaching. Even so, Aamon noticed something off.

One of the three faction leaders ordered the soldiers at the western checkpoint to go fight the monsters alone. It might have sounded like a normal command, but to Aamon, it was a death sentence.

"But we don’t have a system to—"

"GO AND FIGHT THOSE MONSTERS!" the faction leader shouted.

The five soldiers looked confused, then resigned. They turned around and saw goblin monsters charging down the main road from the west side of the city.

Before, most of the monsters had been insects. Now, actual fantasy creatures were appearing, focusing their attacks on the city.

Aamon understood the situation perfectly. Unlike mindless insect monsters that couldn’t be controlled, fantasy monsters like goblins could easily be commanded by their boss.

That was why fantasy monsters preferred cities with large populations rather than scattering randomly. Remote areas could be left to the insect monsters.

The five soldiers raised their weapons and fired, killing a few goblins, but it wasn’t enough.

The bullets from their rifles didn’t kill the goblins instantly. The creatures were injured, but they could still get back up. Their dense muscles slowed down the bullets’ impact.

It took about three shots to bring down a single goblin. That was clearly inefficient.

Even though the five soldiers were struggling, not a single survivor behind them stepped in to help. That alone disgusted Aamon.

Aamon dashed down the building, activating his assassin skill, and rushed forward to stand in front of the five soldiers.

SLASH!

A goblin’s head was severed the moment Aamon arrived. His sudden appearance, wearing an elite army uniform, shocked both the soldiers and the other survivors.

"You? Who are you?" one of the soldiers asked.

"Do you still have ammo?" Aamon replied.

"Yes."

"Aim for their heads, especially the face. That’s their weak point!" Aamon said firmly.

The five nodded, reloaded their magazines, and resumed firing. Aamon didn’t attack again. His instructions alone made their attacks far more effective.

He stepped behind the faction survivors. "All of you can go home. The five of us are more than enough to handle this wave!"

"Huh? Are you insane?! You can’t even kill them properly. There are at least 200 monsters up ahead!" a man in a red uniform snapped.

"I can handle it. I don’t need weak people who just stand there while others fight for their lives!" Aamon shot back.

"You’re arrogant! Who the hell are you? Aren’t you afraid of us?!" they shouted.

[Assassin Class: Shadow Stealth]

Aamon activated his skill and vanished into stealth, shocking everyone as they completely lost track of him.

"An assassin? So he’s an assassin!"

"Stay alert! He might be—"

The man froze mid-sentence.

Aamon reappeared behind the man in the red uniform, the faction leader. His blade crossed the man’s neck. A slight movement would be enough to slit it open.

"I can kill you," Aamon said coldly.

"No!" the man replied, still firm and confident. "You wouldn’t dare kill me!"

SLASH!

Without hesitation, Aamon sliced his throat deep enough to be fatal. Many survivors widened their eyes in shock, unable to believe he actually dared to kill their faction leader.

"YOU! I’LL KILL YOU!" several of the man’s faction members shouted.

The man collapsed, convulsing, both hands clutching his neck as blood poured out. The faction members tried to attack, but Aamon vanished again.

[Assassin Class: Death Sigil]

Aamon left the scene and returned to the building. No one noticed his departure. They were too busy watching their surroundings. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Attack the goblins! You, go treat him!" the man from the blue faction ordered, and the red faction members obeyed.

But in less than five minutes, the man’s life was gone. His body lay motionless, his face pale, his eyes empty. His HP had completely dropped to zero, leaving the red faction furious and devastated.

They looked around at the chaotic battlefield, filled with survivors fighting goblins. Finding Aamon in the middle of that chaos was nearly impossible.

Aamon had already returned to the rooftop, standing at the edge as he watched the battle below. A notification panel appeared, showing the EXP he gained from killing a goblin and the faction leader.

Leveling up... it seemed no new features had unlocked for now.

Aamon’s attention shifted as he noticed the survivors starting to get overwhelmed by the goblin assault.

The red faction withdrew after losing their leader, leaving the burden entirely on the blue and purple factions.

They had no choice but to work together to eliminate the goblins before the city was overrun.

Lady Mira was exhausted. She looked around, searching for the assassin. Her eyes lifted and found him standing on the rooftop, watching the battle without doing much to help.

She went inside and climbed up to the roof, determined to convince him to help the survivors.

The rooftop door opened. Aamon turned and saw Lady Mira approaching him.

"You?" Aamon said.

She pointed forward. "You... have to take responsibility!"

"If you don’t help us now, Indianapolis will fall."

"I have no obligation to help you. You sent those five soldiers to their deaths," Aamon replied.

"They were just soldiers. Not anyone important," Mira said.

"They had families. Maybe parents, a wife, a child. People who placed their hopes on them, believing they’d come back safe from their duty," Aamon said.

"But what happened? You threw them straight into their deaths."

"I have no intention of helping you."

"I’ll give you everything I have if you help us," Lady Mira said.

She opened her inventory panel, displaying the items she owned. Aamon glanced over, no longer watching the main road. His focus shifted to her inventory.

There were many items stored there. But one caught his attention immediately, enough to surprise him.

"Wait... isn’t this...?"
