No Substitutes for the Bigshots' Dream Girl Anymore!-Chapter 1723: Arnold Simmons Side Story (89)
While classes were collecting homework, the grade director also gave a speech over the broadcast, "Today is the first day of the second semester of senior year, and after an entire winter break, I hope everyone has had enough fun. Now, I expect everyone to focus and give their utmost effort to face the upcoming college entrance exams ..."
After the routine speech, the grade director also announced the arrangements for the new term.
The first issue concerned the morning exercise.
Haicheng No. 1 High School has always had a tradition of morning runs, which are usually scheduled in the afternoon and rotated among the different grades. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
But now the requirements have changed.
Starting today, the location for the senior grade’s morning exercise will be at the athletics field, with running on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and regular morning exercises on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; students unable to participate in the running due to health reasons must still attend.
Just as the voice over the broadcast finished, there was a wail from the classroom.
Oscar Evans walked to the podium and slapped the blackboard, "Alright, the school is doing this for your health. While studying is important, we cannot ignore our physical health. Put your spirit into it, make use of your youth to move around, and don’t keep taking sick leaves every other day, as it will only waste your own time in the end!"
With the routine speeches concluded, Oscar Evans asked the class representative to distribute the test papers on the podium.
"Twenty minutes for solving problems, and twenty minutes for explanations. Let’s see if you have slacked off during the winter break."
As the test papers were passed down, there was another wail from the class.
"I’m already starting to miss the wonderful vacation."
"I stayed up completing homework until dawn last night, and got woken up by my alarm clock after barely an hour’s sleep."
"I didn’t dare to sleep at all last night. When I went back to my hometown on the first day, I found out I had forgotten my homework, and I only came back a few days ago to rush through it!"
This is how the review for the second semester of senior year began, fast and furious.
The teachers seemed to want to make use of every single minute, encouraging everyone to ask more questions, both during and after class.
"The college entrance exam is a personal matter, take the opportunity during evening study sessions to ask more. You can even ask teachers from other classes. Don’t wait until you’re in the exam hall to start crying, alright, class dismissed!"
The subject teacher left with their thermos, calling the class representative aside before leaving the classroom.
The classmates finally had a brief moment to relax.
Tessa Thompson was so tired she laid her head on the desk, barely motivating herself to move, "Hannah, wake me up when the teacher comes later."
"Alright." Hannah herself wasn’t too sleepy.
This was the end of today’s first class and the time when everyone felt most sleepy—almost half of the class was catching up on sleep.
The holiday had only just ended and many were still struggling with jet- lag.
...
Despite the intense studying, the school still mandated two physical education classes each week, supervised by the homeroom teacher, to ensure students exercised and relaxed.
Everyone had gone downstairs, leaving Arnold Simmons alone in the classroom.
This is a critical period, and each day the grade director made several rounds in the academic building, specifically watching for students who stayed in the classroom during running or PE classes.
But Arnold Simmons was always an exception.
After speaking with Oscar Evans, Hannah returned to the classroom.
Upon entering, Arnold was writing his homework.
The weather in February was still a bit cold, but today was unusually good, with the warm yet not glaring sun casting a gentle layer through the window onto the young man.
He was looking down, his profile outlined by the golden sunlight.
