Chapter 1670: Chapter 1670: Arnold Simmons Side Story (36)

For some people, when it comes to math and science exams, it’s already quite impressive if they can just fill up the entire paper with writing, regardless of whether the answers are right or wrong.

Half an hour later, Hannah was the only person left in the classroom still working on the problems.

Behind her, the rustling sound of a pen tip touching the exam paper was especially clear in Arnold’s ears.

He closed his eyes but couldn’t sleep; it felt like an ant was crawling on his ear, an itching sensation burrowing deep into his bones.

A few minutes later, he sat up irritably and finally picked up his pen upon seeing his own completely blank paper.

It wasn’t that he didn’t know how to write; he was just too lazy to bother, to avoid causing trouble for himself.

That feeling of being oppressed, enveloped in darkness, forced into a resigned debasement, was like waves churning on the sea surface, effortlessly pushing a desperately struggling person underwater again and again.

A suffocating sensation surged in from all directions.

Arnold’s hand holding the pen loosened and then tightened, tightened and then loosened, but in the end, he still completed all the multiple-choice questions.

This time, at least, it wasn’t a blank paper.

The comprehensive science exam is on Friday morning.

Today is the last day of the monthly exam; just one more afternoon and the weekend will arrive.

As per a certain tradition, there is no self-study or evening revision on the last weekend of the month; it’s a complete weekend for proper rest.

Perhaps for this reason, everyone seemed very spirited before the exam began, even starting to discuss their plans for the weekend.

Hannah glanced at Arnold.

He was still asleep.

She hadn’t seen him during the self-study period in the classroom; it was only when she arrived at the exam hall that she realized he was catching up on sleep here again.

Who knows what he was up to at night, he seemed to never get enough sleep.

Sometimes, even when he was awake, he appeared listless, as if he didn’t care about anything.

The time for the comprehensive science exam flew by exceptionally quickly; like yesterday, Arnold only answered the multiple-choice questions, and he filled them in randomly at the very last minute.

The afternoon exam would be even more relaxed.

Because nearly all the questions on the paper were multiple choice, some students were already betting on which option would be the most frequent answer before the exam even started.

There were all kinds of guesses, but most people guessed ’C’.

In the ten or so minutes before the exam, someone had already quickly filled out all the answer sheets and raised their hand to indicate to the teacher that they wanted to hand in their paper early.

However, the listening test had just begun at that time.

The invigilating teacher glanced over and said, "Continue with the exam, no one is allowed to hand in their paper early today."

The boy sighed and could only walk back to his seat dejectedly.

Seeing him like this, others also reined in their restless moods.

Two hours later, the exam ended on time. The invigilating teacher stood up, "Don’t leave the school immediately afterwards, go back to your class and listen to the homeroom teacher’s instructions for the weekend before you leave."

No sooner had she finished speaking than half the people had already run off.

Hannah stood at the first desk, bent over organizing the exam papers, counting the copies before handing them over to the invigilating teacher.

By the time she came down from the podium, Arnold’s seat was already empty.

Back in the classroom, his figure was still nowhere to be seen.

He must have left directly.

"Although it’s the weekend coming up, everyone mustn’t let their guard down, there aren’t many days left until the college entrance exam," Oscar Evans tapped on the blackboard, "and make sure to complete the homework for each subject on time."

"Got it!"

The classmates were very excited, and they couldn’t sit still.

Oscar Evans smiled and shook his head, "All right, school’s over!"

The crowd cheered, and in a short while, the classroom was half-empty.
