Evelyn opened her mouth to tell the man that he would have to find someplace else while getting ready to close the door.
But before she could even utter a word, the man pushed past her and entered the house.
"You... what?" Evelyn said, stunned.
But she quickly closed the door. The wind was pushing leaves into the cottage.
"Hot." The man muttered, his hand pulling uncomfortably at his collar.
Evelyn turned around to look at him, wondering what he had said.
"Water." She heard the man say. His voice was deep.
"Huh? Oh... yes. I’ll be right back." She said, heading to the kitchen.
A few seconds later, she returned with a bowl of water.
She handed the man the water and watched him gulp it down. He must be very thirsty, she thought.
"Um, do you want more water?" She asked, but the man didn’t reply.
It was possible that he hadn’t heard her over the storm.
She collected the bowl from him, her hand brushing lightly against his.
She didn’t notice that he froze for a second, her gaze moving outside the window at the situation outside. The storm had fully begun. She couldn’t ask the man leave. It was too dangerous.
She hoped mother and father were safe wherever they were.
Suddenly, she became conscious of another person in the room when she caught some movement from the corner of her eyes.
She looked back at the man in front of her only to see that he was also staring at her.
He took a step toward her.
"Um, I will return the bowl." She said. She made to bypass him for the kitchen when her hand was grabbed.
The man then took another step, gripping her hand firmer. At first his hold had just been firm, but then, as if holding her gave him some kind of relief, he increased his grip.
"Let me go, mister." She said, trying to free herself from his grip as a feeling of panic washed over her.
But in the storm, her already gentle voice was as low as a whisper.
Instead of letting go, the man leaned closer.
Her heartbeat quickened.
She had never faced such a situation, but she did the only thing in her mind at that moment.
She bit him.
As hard as she could.
But the pain from the bite caused the man’s grip on her to loosen, and she took advantage of the opportunity, making a run for her room.
She couldn’t leave the house. With the storm’s momentum, she would die in the storm. The other door leading outside was in the kitchen, which was also behind him.
The only option was her room, where she could lock the door.
But she didn’t doubt that he could break the door. He had quite a strong build.
She rushed inside the room and was just about to close it when it opened wider before it could even close.
The man stood in front of her, walking towards her. He seemed to be muttering something, but she was too panicked to care.
She quickly moved backwards, but her leg hit something behind her and she fell backwards onto the bed.
The next thing she knew, his lips were on hers.
The lips felt cold, yet warm at the same time.
For Evelyn who had never been in close contact with a man before, much less kiss, it was a completely unfamiliar feeling. One that made her stomach twist.
She soon recovered from the shock as her eyes widened, and she continued to struggle. She tried to scream, but only air escaped her lungs.
A flash of lightning shone into the room, allowing her to catch a glimpse of his face.
He had deep black hair and eyes, sharp eyebrows and a chiseled jawline. It was obvious he was very handsome, but that wasn’t her concern. She was clearly in danger.
She struggled fiercely. She screamed, but the storm was too loud outside.
Soon, her struggling hands were bound above her head, stopping her from struggling further. With her movement restricted, Evelyn panicked even further.
Instinct led her to kick him, but the man moved reflexively, swiftly dodging the attack even though his movement was a bit shaky.
He trapped her between his legs.
Rippp!
Her dress was ripped open.
"No. Please, stop!" She shook her head and pleaded, tears spilling from her eyes and running down her cheeks.
Instinct told her that whatever would happen wouldn’t be good.
Her inner clothing was ripped, revealing her body. She felt naked and exposed being unclothed under a man’s gaze for the first time in her life.
She wanted to cover herself with her hands, but her hands were still held up.
Tears fell on her face continuously, her eyes fixed on the man’s face, understanding that he wasn’t going to stop.
If one looked closely, they would notice some abnormalities in his eyes.
His black eyes were unnaturally unclear. It was hazy and dark with what she didn’t know were the effects of a drug.
A scream tore from her lips when she felt a splitting pain from her lower body as all movements ceased.
She laid there helplessly as he ravaged her body endlessly.
Minutes later, she fell unconscious.
"My apologies..."
When she woke up the next morning, she was disoriented, feeling sore and confused. There seemed to be a lingering sound in the tip of her ears.
Her gaze stopped outside the window, noticing the brightness outside.
"What happened?" She muttered.
A frown formed on her face when she heard her voice come out weak, hoarse, and raspy.
But that frown soon changed into a look of horror at the state of the room.
Immediately, memories of the previous night returned, pouring in like a wave.
Evelyn burst into tears.
The room was empty. She was the only one in it, making her wish what had happened was just a dream, no, a nightmare. But it wasn’t.
Her ripped clothes were on the floor, and there were embarrassing, unsightly marks all over her body underneath the blanket.
She sat on the bed and sobbed uncontrollably.
Just then, the front door opened.
Adam and Samantha had just returned. Because of the storm the previous day, they chose not to return to avoid getting caught up in the danger of the storm, just as Evelyn had thought.
As soon as the storm ended, they quickly headed home to see their beloved daughter.
They noticed the burned out candles on the dining table, but there was no sign of Evelyn.
The couple exchanged glances.
"Maybe she’s still asleep. The storm was quite heavy. It could have affected her sleep, causing her to sleep later." Adam said.
Samantha nodded in agreement.
They both knew that their daughter always woke up on time. It was strange to see that she hadn’t gotten up even though it was almost the time of noon.
But Adam’s words made sense. The loud, stormy night might have made her unable to sleep. So when she finally fell asleep, she would wake up later than usual.
"Eve?" Samantha called.
Evelyn heard her name and knew that her parents were back.
Not hearing any response, the couple thought that it must really be that she was still asleep.
"Dear Eve, are you still aslee—" Samantha was asking with a smile on her voice as she pushed the door open.
But her voice reduced to a whisper and faded completely as her eyes took in the state of the room.
Slowly, their eyes lifted up to stare at their beloved daughter.
"What happened?" Samantha managed to ask, though the question came out sounding like a desperate plea.
She lost her balance, almost stumbling had it not been for Adam behind her quickly supporting her.
Their eyes didn’t leave Evelyn who clutched the blanket to her chest.
Her hands gripped the blanket so tight her knuckles turned white.
Dried tears were on her face, her eyes looked like it had no life in them, and there were glaringly obvious marks on the visible parts of her chest and body.
The clothes she had been wearing before they left now we’re in pieces, some strewn on the floor and on the bed.
"Wuu..." Seeing the familiar faces of her parents, the lifeless look in Evelyn’s eyes cleared up for a moment and her eyes teared up as she broke into a sob.
Adam and Samantha got over their shock, quickly rushing forward.
"My dear Eve." Samantha hurried to her side and hugged her.
"I-I am sorry. Wuu..." Evelyn hung her head in shame. This was very disgraceful.
"You did nothing wrong." Adam said solemnly, even though he didn’t know exactly what happened. "What happened?"
But Evelyn only lowered her head even further. Thinking about it brought tears to her eyes. She couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Seeing this, Adam sighed sadly.
