Chapter 52 - 52: The Growing Girl
Chapter 52: The Growing Girl
The Hyuga clan was large, but not every member possessed the ability to awaken the Byakugan.
Whether one could awaken the bloodline and open the Byakugan depended heavily on the intensity of training and the purity of that bloodline.
Interestingly, using the Gentle Fist didn't strictly require the Byakugan. The Byakugan served more as a support tool, enhancing the effectiveness of Gentle Fist techniques. True mastery relied on understanding acupoints and chakra pathways, along with precise chakra control and physical skill.
The human body was incredibly intricate—filled with countless acupoints and meridians. Technically, with deep knowledge of human anatomy, one could still block chakra points by sight alone. But without natural talent and relentless effort, this was near impossible. Even those who could manage it often used an incomplete form of the Gentle Fist, never reaching its full potential.
The Byakugan was a shortcut—a powerful tool to master the Gentle Fist fully.
Under Ryosuke's one-on-one guidance, Hinata had already gained a deep familiarity with the human body's structure. Even without her Byakugan, she could use a rudimentary form of Gentle Fist.
And now... she had awakened her bloodline.
---
Ryosuke was relieved when he learned Hinata had activated her Byakugan while he was away. But that didn't mean he was going to go easy on her.
With his hands tucked behind his back, he calmly dodged every strike she threw, offering the occasional piece of advice.
"Your insight has improved since opening your Byakugan," he noted. "Your speed and strength too. But your fighting spirit's still weak, and you haven't formed your own combat instincts."
He sidestepped a strike effortlessly.
"Even though your eyes can track my movements and relay them to your brain, your reaction time can't keep up. Your body still lags behind. That delay... that's the gap."
He looked at her calmly.
"The Byakugan and Gentle Fist—these are just tools. You're the one who wields them. Understanding how to use them well—that's the real challenge."
Now that her Byakugan was activated, Hinata could clearly see the chakra points and meridians flowing through Ryosuke's body. A single strike could potentially disrupt his chakra flow and land a full barrage of her Bagua Thirty-Two Palms.
Even though the Thirty-Two Palms was only a preliminary version of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, it could still temporarily disable chakra flow if used correctly.
But unfortunately... she couldn't even graze him.
It was just like before she had awakened her Byakugan—she couldn't even touch the hem of his shirt.
"Come on, sis! You can do it!"
In the distance, under the soft glow of lanterns, Hanabi was still cheering excitedly.
She was too young to understand the nuances of the fight, unaware of the pressure her sister was under.
"Your chakra's almost gone," Ryosuke warned gently. "With your reserves, using a high-level technique like Shadow Clone is already pushing it. After awakening your Byakugan, your chakra consumption will only get worse. Let's wrap up for today."
Though he hadn't activated his own Byakugan, he could easily tell Hinata's condition just from the slowing of her movements and her heavy breathing.
But Hinata didn't stop.
Gritting her teeth, she continued to strike, refusing to give up.
Her determination was admirable—but futile.
Her chakra was draining fast, and without it, her speed, power, and stamina were fading fast. Her Byakugan flickered, unstable, on the verge of shutting down.
Her steps grew sluggish. Her strikes turned weak.
With no chakra to support her Byakugan or enhance her physical strength, she relied purely on willpower and raw stamina.
And Hinata had always been physically tough—one of the perks of coming from a taijutsu-oriented clan.
Still, there were limits.
They trained deep within the Hyuga compound. Out here, even the lively nighttime hum of Konoha felt far away.
The training field was quiet, timeless—almost dreamlike.
And yet, time passed.
Hinata refused to quit. And Ryosuke, seeing that determination, said nothing more. He simply remained, testing her quietly.
Eventually, her movements became painfully slow. Her face was pale, sweat-soaked, and she was on the brink of passing out. Still, she clenched her fists and didn't utter a word of complaint.
She couldn't even form proper palm strikes anymore. Her hands were weak, trembling fists. But Ryosuke continued to treat the session seriously.
No matter how exhausted she became, he never let his guard down. Not once did she land a hit.
"Miss Hinata, Master Ryosuke. I'll take young Lady Hanabi back now."
It was the woman from before, Aliang, who finally stepped in and broke the silence.
Hanabi had long since dozed off in her chair. She was still just a child, and autumn nights could be chilly—even in the Land of Fire. Luckily, kids in this world were hardy.
"That's enough for today."
Ryosuke looked at Hinata, who was barely standing.
"Can you still walk?"
He stepped forward, preparing to help her.
Just as he approached, Hinata gathered the last bit of strength she had left—and lunged at him.
Thump—
She crashed to the ground, stirring up a cloud of dust.
Even at her limit, Ryosuke didn't let his guard down. He dodged instinctively.
"Damn it..."
Hinata lay there, panting and motionless.
Ryosuke looked down at her helplessly and sighed.
"Should I say you're stubborn... or admire your spirit?"
He bent down and gently helped her to her feet. This time, when she reached up and grabbed his collar, he let her.
"Take the day off tomorrow," he said, guiding her to a nearby bench. "With how drained you are, you might not recover fully even the day after. Facing someone like Inuzuka Kiba in this state... would be a problem."
As she slumped into the seat, he added softly, "Unlike me, Kiba won't just dodge. He'll hit back."
"Ryosuke... is my talent really that bad?"
Hinata asked quietly, her voice barely audible.
She leaned against him, eyes distant and heavy with doubt.
The confidence she'd built through weeks of training had shattered in a single night.
Ryosuke's expression shifted slightly.
"It's not shameful to lose to me."
He could sense her frustration and didn't want her to fall into self-doubt.
"What do you think my current level is?" he asked, crouching in front of her.
He gently took one of her arms and began kneading it to ease the soreness from overexertion.
"You're amazing," she murmured. "The strongest person I've ever met."
Her voice trembled as much as her body.
Ryosuke stood and moved behind her. Sitting was too awkward for proper massage. He began using acupressure techniques to stimulate her back, releasing built-up tension.
Stimulating chakra points and unblocking meridians was a common recovery method, and nearly every Hyuga knew how to do it.
"Then tell me this," Ryosuke said, as his hands moved expertly across her back. "Who's stronger—me, Kiba Inuzuka, or Uchiha Sasuke?"
"...Of course... you're stronger."
Her reply was soft, as if even speaking took effort. But the treatment was helping—her body was relaxing little by little.
"Exactly. If I'm the strongest, shouldn't you be setting your sights on beating the others first?"
His voice was calm, but warm. "Take down Kiba. Then Sasuke. After that, you can come for me."
He smiled slightly.
Hinata's persistence and grit...
It made him like this girl even more.
