Chapter 51: Dedicated Hinata

Dinner at the Hyuga household was a rare moment of peace.

Hiashi Hyuga, as usual, wore his usual stern expression, but Ryosuke could sense something deeper beneath the surface. Though he didn't show it outwardly, his body language and subtle emotional shifts gave him away—he genuinely enjoyed having the family together.

Still, warm scenes like sitting around after dinner, drinking tea and chatting, weren't something you'd ever find in this traditional household. As always, Hiashi stood up the moment dinner was over and retreated to his study, burying himself in paperwork and clan matters.

Ryosuke and Hinata, on the other hand, headed to their usual evening training session.

But lately, things had changed.

Hanabi—now a lively, energetic little girl—was no longer the quiet baby who could be left alone. She ran, jumped, and climbed wherever she pleased. The once silent training grounds now echoed with her giggles and commentary.

"Go, sis! Kick his butt!"

From a bench lit by the soft glow of lanterns, Hanabi sat munching on snacks, cheering like she was watching a stage play.

To keep the atmosphere warm for Hanabi, Ryosuke had turned on all the lights around the training area. It wasn't as dark and serious as before.

"I want Hanabi-chan to cheer for me too," Ryosuke said with a mock pout, glancing at Hinata.

Hinata chuckled proudly at her sister's encouragement. She'd always been shy and quiet, especially in front of others. But when it was just Ryosuke and Hanabi, she allowed herself to relax, to be more open.

Her confidence had grown a lot recently—especially after several successful practice duels and ranking first among the girls in her grade. That achievement helped her shed the doubt she once held about herself.

Seeing her so fired up, Ryosuke grinned and stretched his limbs.

"Alright then, let's get started. Hit me with everything you've got."

It had been a month since Ryosuke last saw her. And if you asked him what he looked forward to most, it wasn't a hug or sweet talk—it was testing if she had truly improved.

Of course, he wasn't surprised she outperformed the girls. As the future head of the Hyuga clan, she was supposed to. Frankly, he believed she should be aiming beyond that—she should be trying to stand out among all students, not just the girls.

"Really? You mean I can go all out?" Hinata asked eagerly, shifting into her stance.

"You—"

Before he could finish, she dashed toward him, catching him mid-sentence.

Ryosuke's grin widened. freeωebnovēl.c૦m

Dodging with ease, he shifted behind her and gently countered with a single palm strike to block her follow-up.

The move felt nostalgic—like the one he used against his own father during a test more than a year ago.

Unfortunately for Hinata...

"Too predictable," Ryosuke commented calmly. "In a real battle, this kind of trick has too many holes."

He leapt backward, chakra gathered at his feet, widening the distance again.

"Remember: real combat is about using everything at your disposal. The enemy won't hold back. They won't underestimate you."

Hinata didn't respond—she just kept attacking.

Though her first move had failed, her determination never wavered. She struck again, faster this time, palms aiming for Ryosuke's acupoints.

But he didn't even bother to block. With his hands behind his back, he twisted and shifted effortlessly, dodging her strikes like he was dancing.

"You're still relying on surface-level tricks, just like I did when I took advantage of your father's mercy."

He chuckled lightly, still weaving through her attacks.

"But I get it. I didn't know how far you'd come this past month, what new skills you'd learned... But it looks like—ah, so you've picked up the Shadow Clone Technique."

As if on cue, Ryosuke jumped back once more. A moment later, the ground where he had just stood erupted with another Hinata landing a heavy palm strike.

Two Hinatas stood on the field.

One of them was a proper shadow clone—with a physical form—not just a basic illusion.

If he had misread her opening move and dismissed it as a harmless clone, he might've been hit. And without activating his Byakugan, he'd relied entirely on instinct and sensory awareness.

"You're amazing, Ryosuke..."

Hinata's breath came in short gasps now, but her eyes still burned with resolve.

"No matter how hard I try... I can only ever see your back."

She clenched her fists.

"This whole month, I thought I'd finally caught up. But I was too naive."

Back when they used to train together, she had no real idea of Ryosuke's strength. But now that she had achieved top rank among the girls, she assumed she might finally be able to fight him evenly.

And yet... she couldn't even touch him.

The gap between them was painfully clear. A chasm.

Even someone as proud as Uchiha Sasuke might not fare any better.

"I told you not to aim too high all at once," Ryosuke said softly. "You've made incredible progress, Hinata. More than I expected. You should be proud."

"But... I still can't land a single hit on you."

Hinata bit her lower lip in frustration, fists trembling.

Ryosuke smiled wryly. "When I picked you up today, I heard you say something about sparring with Inuzuka Kiba tomorrow?"

She blinked, surprised.

"He's not weak," Ryosuke went on. "But the Inuzuka clan's strength mostly relies on cooperation with their ninja dogs. And Kiba's Akamaru still hasn't matured yet. With your current speed and control, you should be able to handle him, as long as you stay calm. Honestly, you should start challenging boys too. You've outgrown just competing with the girls."

"But I still can't keep up with you!"

Hinata's voice trembled now, raw with emotion. Her eyes never left his.

"At the very least... I want to land one hit. Just one!"

Her hands clenched harder, and her body trembled slightly as chakra began to surge from her tenketsu.

"Byakugan... Activate!"

Ryosuke's eyes widened slightly.

So she had awakened it—during this past month?

He hadn't expected that.

Standing in the pale glow of chakra, Hinata's eyes glimmered with determination. Her white eyes pulsed with power.

And for the first time tonight... Ryosuke stopped smiling.

He stood tall, no longer dodging playfully.

Now he was curious.

How much had she really grown?
