Myriad Devils-Chapter 83: The wounded beast in the dusty battlefield
A bolt of purple lightning!
Catching a glimpse of the purple lightning rushing towards him, Bolan snickered.
Truthfully, though he had just pulled off something like this, he held no confidence in a competition of speed with any of the second world geniuses.
Luckily: ’Master’s gift to me, its usage isn’t to end a life, but to save mine!’
Around Bolan’s ankles, previously absent, a pair of silvery bracelets with distinctly structured white wings attached to them suddenly materialized.
In that moment, the blade that had pierced Anon’s chest vanished.
His wound was open, and the blood that oozed from his chest uncontrollably began spilling out in large quantities.
Blood that seemingly grew intelligence, pausing mid-air, before abruptly rushing towards the one-winged monkeys that were approaching him.
Yet, before the beasts and the blood could collide, it occurred...
A catastrophic explosion!
Boom!
For a moment, the world lost its luster.
Seth’s eyes widened.
Though he wished to look towards Bolan’s direction, his body couldn’t react in time.
Only his thoughts moved at a rate fast enough. Just before he was caught by an overbearing, invisible current, he thought: ’Sky-grade Magical Item?!’
Whether it be the inheritors, the one-winged monkey horde, or the three second world entities, without fail, they were all flung away by a gust of wind.
The moment Bolan’s blade had been removed from Anon’s chest, he had long disappeared. And only an instance after, the shockwave from his departure sent this battlefield into chaos.
Powerful torrents of wind picked up the bodies of some of the weaker entities present as the mud and dust raised, greatly reducing the visibility of the battlefield.
As a growing weakness assaulted him, Anon descended from the sky at a swiftly increasing rate before...
Boom!
Crashing into the earth, Anon groaned with discomfort as the taste of his own blood filled his mouth. His mind buzzed as he struggled to retain consciousness. Biting his tongue, he weakly stood up, placing one hand on the wound on his chest.
’Barely...’ Anon thought: ’Just barely!’
Inevitable End had saved him. ’
Anon knew this. His principle went so far as to affect luck itself, and Anon knew how lucky he was, that Bolan’s blade just barely missed his heart.
Death!
It was less than an inch away.
The cold, spine-chilling aura of death swallowed his spirit.
Anon’s mind, for a short period, was almost blank, as even in this chaotic field, he couldn’t help but ponder on death.
His blood-soaked right palm pressing against his chest then covered his face. Undistinguishable noises escaped his covered mouth whilst he visibly twitched and trembled. His blood boiled.
No...
’My blood,’ Anon thought: ’True father is angry, and father’s blood is boiling.’
The veins on his temple bulged as his eyes turned bloodshot. Anger really couldn’t describe Anon’s current state of mind.
’Where is he?’ Anon’s world spun: ’Where is that bastard?!’
He felt like shouting.
To let out a fear-inducing bellow capable of reaching the four corners of the world. And yet, he remained silent, his body trembling from the rage that coursed through his veins.
The young lord of humanity had nearly been killed by one of his own kind.
What kind of joke was that?!
Truthfully, this single fact is what fueled most of his rage and hate towards Bolan.
’He’s dead! Dead, dead, dead, dead! When I find him, I’ll tear him apart. I’ll rip his limbs and feed it to the beasts! I’ll drink his blood and eat his flesh. Damn, damnable, damn it!’
’Bolan!’ He screamed internally.
What was released to the outer world was mere whimpering sounds. He was unable to properly control himself, and even speaking aloud was challenging.
His mind was on overdrive, completely clouded by wrath.
Anon’s heart thumped chaotically, causing the amount of blood oozing from his wound to increase significantly.
This was him, crazed!
If Bolan was before him currently, there was hardly anyone in this world that would be capable of viewing the result of their confrontation with a straight face.
But, just then, as he was in the middle of imagining Bolan being skinned alive, his ears twitched.
Though he hadn’t realized it before, solely because his mind was in a big mess, there were several explosions and eruptions occurring in his near vicinity.
When his thoughts finally grasped a sliver of realism, his muscles twitched suddenly.
It was an instinctive reaction.
Right after, the earth beneath his feet sank under the tremendous force of his explosion!
His figure rocketed towards the origin of the closest eruption near him!
Piercing through the dust-filled battlefield, his expressions were distorted and there was no thought nor care as to what type of situation he was about to enter.
Though Anon could not see clearly, with the way he rushed towards the sound, as if he had no care for any danger, it almost appeared like he didn’t care about his lack of vision.
Bam!
As the shockwave caused by Bolan’s escape affected the entire battlefield, it saw all fourteen stellar geniuses separate from each other, with one of them, Bolan, completely leaving the battlefield.
The other thirteen though, were located somewhere on the battlefield, but due to the debris that obstructed their vision, and the loud explosions of battles taking place, it was difficult to really have an idea of what was what.
By now, it was very much possible for most of the geniuses to have already fallen after being unlucky enough to cross paths with a one-winged monkey rather than another stellar genius.
Whether it was their luck or not, Catharina and Andrew had stumbled into each other’s path.
Currently, before them there was a single one-winged monkey.
Though they worked together, and though Catharina had that strange necklace around her neck, they were still in a very tight position. After all, the boost in their spirit’s strength and ability to draw out more power than usual was not present anymore.
This boost, naturally, was related to Natalia, the girl that assumed meditative postures in the middle of battlefields. Whether she was alive or dead, neither of them knew, but it was most probably the latter.
A golden light containing hints of silvery white covered the entire area as Catharina’s body was protected by magnificent golden armor. With a wave of her hand, several frosty golden shards materialized mid-air and drifted through the air, exploding upon contacting the body of the one-winged beast.
Though it attempted to evade, its movements were much slower than one would expect from these one-winged monkeys as an invisible wave of energy washed over its body.
Andrew’s figure was trembling as blood dripped from his nose and oozed out of his ears.
When an ordinary human was pushed to their limits, what separated one person from another was their willpower. Those who had stronger wills were capable of drawing out the hidden energies stored in the nocks and crannies of their body, this was also known as surpassing one’s limit.
The same logic applied here. Though it strained his spirit, under the constant threat of life and death, Andrew’s spirit drew more and more power from his principle than ever before.
This was possible simply because he was a genius. Geniuses who had natural talent were capable of going against common sense and even achieve what may have been previously deemed impossible. It was how a first world stellar fighter could suddenly find himself beginning to touch upon the boundary of the second world.
As the golden shards exploded, a cold chill permeated the air, causing the one-winged monkey’s body to slow down even more. Wielding his longsword, Andrew roared loudly and lunged toward the one-winged monkey.
At the same time, its single wing trembled as the feathers coating it detached and speedily rushed towards Andrew’s incoming frame.
Reacting quickly, Andrew blocked these sharp projectiles with his shield, and yet, the force that they approached with sent him hurling away like a ragdoll.
’Damn it!’ Catharina cursed inwardly: ’With Natalia’s help, I could’ve created that golden palm. By now, maybe this fight would’ve ended already.’ Her thoughts churned as she evaded the incoming feathers. Though she was unable to dodge every one of them, the armor that wrapped around her body, even as cracks formed from the impacts of these feathers, protected Catharina successfully.
However, the power that held the one-winged monkey in place was weakening drastically, seeing it stamp its foot into the earth before rushing towards her.
But, at that time...
Bam!
The one-winged monkey’s speed, to Catharina’s despairing surprise, suddenly shot through the roof. At the same time, the abrupt sound of an eruption violently shook her mind.
Without reason, the beast’s figure, rushing towards her, weirdly bolted past her!
Crashing into the dirt uncontrollably, it tumbled for several meters before skidding across the earth only to finally catch itself.
Shooting back to its feet without rest, it bellowed with rage whilst staring cautiously towards Catharina’s direction.
Though she met its gaze, almost immediately she understood that it wasn’t looking towards her.
Realizing that there was someone, or something behind her, a chill caused her heart to enter a state of turmoil as she slowly turned around.
Behind her, adopting human form was a beautiful creature.
Painted with blood, clearly wounded, though it appeared human, its expression was not.
The nonhuman, for just a fraction of a second, Catharina mistook it for a beast. Or more accurately, with his blood staining his torn clothes and body, and even face, rather than beast, the word ’Devil’ imprinted on Catharina’s mind.
This crimson devil, with golden eyes, Anon, stepped forward once, causing Catharina to unconsciously take a step back. As his golden eyes, previously containing a godly appeal, locked onto her, the hairs on her body rose as a sudden discomfort swelled in her chest.
"Anon?"
When she called out, the earth under Anon’s feet cracked and shattered as he exploded with speed towards Catharina. His left hand was stuck out as his five fingers, now resembling claws more than human fingers, rushed towards the girl’s neck.
In Catharina’s eyes, amongst other emotions, confusion resided.
Still, the most obvious emotion, was fear...
