Chapter 84: Perfect opportunity to escape that pair of eyes

Anon moved swiftly, fast enough to prevent the one-winged monkey from sneaking an attack from behind Catharina. His claw-like hands passed relatively close to Catharina’s neck. She didn’t react to his movements, partly due to shock, but mostly due to how fast he moved.

The one-winged monkey stretched its arm out, attempting to drive its claws into the back of Catharina’s neck, but Anon’s hand intercepted its path, as he forcefully pushed it away. Going around Catharina, who was caught in the middle, he moved with an unnatural amount of agility, before sending a knee towards the beast’s chest.

It was shorter than him, and even more agile. As the control from Catharina’s principle completely dissipated, it swiftly evaded Anon’s knee before counterattacking.

But in terms of close-quarter-combat, though he fought almost like a beast, Anon’s movements were calculated and refined. Man Like Beast. Anon had mastered this art to the point where it had become a part of his natural movement.

Only because he did not have enough merit, did Anon not also buy gauntlets created from cosmic dust. As for his own divine weapon, he had lost possession of it, and until now, he hadn’t even thought of it yet. In his mind, there was a festering rage that clouded his thoughts. Right now, he entered a stalemate with the one-winged monkey, exchanging ruthless, bloody attacks one after the other.

Though the one-winged monkey was taking damage from his assault, its own barrage of attacks was slowly increasing the number of wounds that covered his entire body. To top it off, there was a significant gash on his chest. No, it was a stab wound that could be seen on both sides of his body, on his chest, and his back. If one investigated it, they could very well see the other side.

Even though the blood spilling out of this wound had slowed down, thanks to his extraordinary rate of healing, this wound was still glaringly bad, to the point that it greatly hampered his own fighting capability. Luckily...

By now, both Catharina and Andrew had observed the confrontation between Anon and the one-winged monkey. Though they wished to help him, if they acted without caution, they might do the complete opposite. Right now, they were waiting. Waiting for Anon to signal to them to act, only then were they confident enough to move.

And just then, when the one-winged monkey slowly began to land more and more hits in, Anon’s frigid gaze turned to them as he abruptly began retreating. Immediately thereafter, the two acted.

As Andrew roared, an indistinguishable ripple spread out, contacting the beast. At the same time, it quickly perceived what was taking place, decisively deciding to close the distance between it and Anon. If the two others needed to attack it, they’ll also need to impact Anon. But not just Andrew’s attack, but shards of gold suddenly materialized before it, exploding into chilly gusts of winds.

Its movements suddenly slowed significantly.

After resting for a short while, Andrew closed in the distance between him and the one-winged monkey with renewed vigor. Upon seeing Anon’s presence, it felt as if it had found its chance to survive. And just when the beast turned shifted its focus to Andrew, a sharp sound entered its ears as a shimmering staff whizzed through the air, piercing through the dust-filled battlefield.

Bang!

This golden staff collided with the back of the beast’s head in an abrupt manner, sending its mind buzzing and causing the world in its perception to enter a state of utter chaos. The skies and the earth seemed to switch places as it stumbled forward, unable to react to Andrew’s longsword. Toward this opportunity, Andrew wasn’t disappointed, slashing outwards.

Though the beast was a beast commander, and no joke at that, allowing it to react to the sudden threat of death, Andrew swiftly realized that he’d be unable to kill it, seeing to it that mid-air, his sword switched routes, instead attacking a completely different part of the beast’s body.

EEE! EEE! EEE!

Hearing the beast’s screams, Anon laughed maniacally as his bloodshot eyes tracked his golden staff. Hopping into the air, he grabbed hold of it before landing back onto his feet, and in one swift movement, rocketed across the dusty battlefield, towards the one-winged monkey that had lost its single wing.

Staring at its severed wing, the monkey screamed as its crimson orbs trembled and diluted. But Anon’s incoming presence forced it to shift its focus towards its adversaries. And at the same time, Catharina rushed towards the beast, stepping onto materializing golden blocks that allowed her to scale into the sky above the beast, towards a golden spear that was slowly materializing.

As she appeared before it, grasping it into her hands, she descended from above with it, stabbing out towards the one-winged monkey, whilst, at the same time, Anon rushed towards the beast, a bloody smile plastered on his face as his eyes oozed blood that trickled down his cheeks.

Andrew swung his longsword once more, towards the one-winged monkey. Though it dodged his sword, said sword arced through the air before rushing towards the beast once again. Dodging again and again, the beast even went so far as to evade Catharina’s staff that came from above, whilst also jumping over Andrew’s longsword.

But whilst mid-air, Anon’s staff collided into its chest, causing an unnaturally loud cracking noises to resound in their surroundings. The creature was sent rocketing away from the impact, with blood oozing from its nose, eyes, and ears. It coughed up more than a mere mouthful of blood as it crashed into the earth and skidded across the dirt.

The trio quickly reacted, with Anon leading them as they assaulted the severely injured beast. The exchange, no, the beatdown continued for almost a minute, with Anon’s blunt attacks delivering earth-shattering power, the primary cause of the beast’s numerous injuries, especially the damage it sustained to its brain.

Before long, its movements had slowed down to such a point that even Andrew’s attacks were difficult to evade. And it was just then that Catharina’s spear made up of gold pierced its heart. Yanking her spear out of its chest, a frosty coldness pervaded its body, quickly spreading to every nock and cranny, freezing it in place.

Shing~!

The blade of Andrew’s longsword gleamed in the light, reflecting the dust around them as it rushed towards the monkey’s neck, severing it in the process. And as blood spilled like a fountain, tainting its surroundings, Anon fell to his knees, his body trembling. Blood fell from above him, painting his visage as he chortled loudly.

This demonic image caused the other two to react almost instinctively, taking several steps back. It was obvious to them from the very beginning that Anon wasn’t in his right state of mind. He had yet to speak to them, and even when he had signaled for them to attack the one-winged monkey, it wasn’t a shout to attack, instead, a frigid glare.

"Ah, fuck!" Anon’s laughter came to an end as he leaned back, taking a seat on the cracked earth. He didn’t seem to mind the disgusting stickiness of the blood and matter, nor the scent as he sighed and turned to Catharina and Andrew, "Well, that was one hell of a fucking struggle. If one of them gave us so much trouble, I can’t imagine fighting two, or three."

Obviously, Bolan’s sneak attack had greatly weakened him.

Maybe, this was why Bolan so unhesitatingly escaped after his sneak attack failed. With the situation as it is, if Anon was alone against even two, or worse yet, three one-winged monkeys, his death was all but certain.

’Bolan probably banked on that being the case.’ Anon chuckled lightly: ’Though my luck isn’t the greatest to ever exist, at the very least, bad luck isn’t something I tend to suffer from.’

Catharina glanced at Andrew who glanced back almost simultaneously. Both seemed to be able to read the other’s expression. Clicking her tongue, she turned to Anon with a careful expression: "Anon?"

Clearly, his actions, and more so, his manner of going about things, had disturbed them greatly: "Hehe, don’t be like this." A barely noticeable smirk etched itself onto his face as he shakily took to his feet. Twisting his neck, he picked up the golden staff that rested on the ground before twirling it skillfully.

As it flashed with a golden light, turning into an earring on his right ear, he spoke: "Which direction do you think we should head? Right now’s the perfect time to escape from the one-winged monkey horde."

The moment his words fell, the eyes of the other two widened. For a moment, they were stunned. Not necessarily by his words, but more so the fact that they hadn’t thought of that yet. After all, with the visions of the stellar fighters and one-winged monkeys being impaired, if now wasn’t the best time to escape, when was?

But, just then, Andrew couldn’t help but ponder aloud: "What about the others? Are we going to leave them here?"

Catharina turned to him and felt like slapping him across his face, staring daggers at him. As if unaware of what he did, he puzzledly stared back at her. On the other hand, Anon didn’t directly reply, instead turning to his left already beginning to walk: "It seems as if you have a way to locate the others without finding yourself in front of a one-winged monkey."

"You can go ahead and do that. Catharina and I will be leaving." He uttered. To which, Catharina quickly followed behind. Andrew similarly moved quickly, walking next to Anon before he lost sight of the two.

’What about the others?’ Anon thought: ’What about them? This is the perfect opportunity to escape from Seth’s eyes. In Blood-Drip Jungle, with so many magic treasures, I can swiftly destroy the gap separating me and him.’ After all, even if Seth and him appeared equal in terms of strength, firstly, it wasn’t all to crazy to believe that Seth might still be holding back.

And even if he wasn’t: ’Seth has yet to reveal his other two principles.’ Anon’s eyes shone with a ruthless light as he glanced at Catharina, or more accurately, something on her: ’More than that, I need to leave here with her. A Greater Divine Weapon is useless on a first world stellar fighter.’

’It’s the same for that magical item in Bolan’s possession!’
