Myriad Devils-Chapter 175: Incomprehensible comprehension
A pity, really a pity.
This successor trials naturally favors lightning practitioners. The young lord of humanity indeed has high talent, but no matter how naturally talented one may be, there is a limit.
To even pass the first trial, comprehending the glowing patterns is the first step, however those who lack affinity for lightning will inevitably falter in this first step.
No matter how hard they try, if one can’t imprint the image of the glowing patterns in their mind, and constantly meditate on this image, how can they comprehend the secrets of the glowing pattern?
Willpower was the most important requirement to grab my attention, but that is for the lightning practitioners participating in this successor trials.
For the rest, they will likely fall here. With the golden patterns disappearing before their eyes could even pick up on it, what can they really comprehend from it?
.....
Anon stood in the caged space.
Not much time had passed, however there were no longer any complaints. He only slashed at the wall in silence with his spear, gaining glimpses of the flashing patterns on the wall.
It was but mere glimpses, but Anon had come to perceive a strange force radiating from these patterns.
As they disappeared, this force would also dissipate, hence when the process of appearing and disappearing occurred over and over, Anon’s sharp perception which had been enhanced by his constantly evolved soul, quickly took notice.
After a while, Anon halted his actions.
His spear deconstructed, and without a single utterance, he squatted down and assumed a lotus position.
Anon entered a state of meditation.
Standing in the endless darkness, Anon was in a form condensed from the power of his soul.
"The golden patterns disappear too quickly, before I can even catch a proper glimpse." Anon mused, not disappointed, but intrigued.
The glowing patterns flashed across the space within his mind realm, leaving faint ripples of power in their wake.
"Or maybe, this is what the trial is trying to show," Anon pondered. "Golden patterns disappearing in a flash. Moving as fast as lightning..." Anon mumbled to himself.
Observing these flashing patterns for some time, Anon suddenly opened his eyes. He waved his right hand, and the cloud severing spear materialized before him.
Grabbing hold of the spear, he suddenly struck at the world once more.
The spear tore apart space as it approached the wall, leaving weak traces of crackling lightning in its wake. As the spear landed against the wall, these traces of white lightning sparked and crackled for a second or two before being absorbed.
"Hehe..."
Anon was not the least bit distraught by the sight of his attack being absorbed. Compared to before, the glowing patterns had actually remained for more than a second.
Previously, it did not even last a half a second!
"Incredible," Anon could not help but exclaim. "Is it because this dimension is unlike the material world? Or is it the sheer quality of this divine art?"
"Grasping only a slight understanding of these glowing patterns resulted in my attacks summoning the properties of a lightning principle." Anon sighed with amazement.
It wasn’t impossible to wield principles that one held no affinity for, however this was usually only possible via the help of a magical item or divine weapon related to the principle itself.
Anon wielded only a single cloud severing spear, and with his most basic understanding of the golden patterns, his casual attack actually contained the properties of the lightning principle.
.....
Huh?
The Lightning Reckoning Orb remained in silence for some time. But as time passed, its shock only grew.
Was wielding a foreign principle this easy all the time?
It is only traces of lightning properties, but there are still traces. Traces that weren’t in his previous attacks.
Can he really gain inspiration simply from the flashes of the glowing patterns?!
What...
What kind of comprehension ability is that?
How the hell does his thoughts even formulate to gain something from nothing???
.....
Jacob observed the glowing patterns in a daze.
Unlike Anon, the glowing patterns did not disappear when he had attacked. Instead, Jacob quickly came to the realization that these glowing patterns reacted to his principle power.
He did not even need to produce strong attacks.
With a constant influx of raw principle power, the glowing patterns indefinitely remained etched onto the wall.
Burning the image of the glowing pattern into his memory, he stopped pouring principle power into the wall. Closing his eyes, he meditated on the image of that pattern.
Naturally aligned with the nature of lightning, Jacob saw a myriad kinds of manifestations from the image of this glowing pattern.
An influx of ideas and inspirations appeared in his mind, fueling him to unsheathe his sword. As time flickered away, his understanding of the glowing patterns deepened significantly.
.....
As expected, Jacob’s potential amongst these successors is the highest by two or three tiers. Amongst the lightning practitioners in this trial, his affinity for lightning is the absolute highest.
He even resonates with this dimension. Naturally, I favor him. But when I see something like the young lord, I can’t help but sigh.
If only the son of the human lord had affinity for the lightning principle.
The dimensional core released a despairing sigh.
Jacob can likely grasp the destiny of a Lord, but the son of the Human Lord... This is a child with boundless talent. So much so that I wonder, can one really be destined to become an Overlord?
.....
Anon stood in the caged space, silent. The depths of his dark gold eyes revealed the glowing patterns, and in his near vicinity, streaks of lightning traced across the space.
Stepping closer to the wall, Anon’s right index finger stretched out. The space in front of his index finger crackled with white electricity as he began tracing on the wall.
Wherever his finger passed, glowing patterns were left on the wall. His finger moved in an intricate manner, seemingly drawing over the patterns that were hidden behind an invisible veil, only revealing after his finger brushed past.
Anon ’drew’ this pattern, encompassing the entire wall before retracting his finger. He remained silent as he observed the full image of the glowing pattern.
Although he did not pour out a constant flow of raw lightning properties into the wall, the glowing patterns remained, seemingly indefinitely.
Anon chuckled faintly, and the cloud severing spear materialized. As it arched through the space, lightning crackled in its wake, concentrating at the tip of the spear, before releasing a muffled explosion.
Cracks quickly ran across the face of the wall, and then...
As the wall shattered like glass, Anon casually stepped out of the caged space. As he entered a new environment, he couldn’t restrain his laughter.
"Only upon understanding the entire picture I’ve come to realize that my initial inspiration should not have been theoretically possible," Anon muttered.
Shaking his head, he sighed internally, ’My soul has undergone such a drastic transformation that even simple things can give me a sudden burst of inspiration. This is slightly unfair, is it not?’
.....
Why?
I get it.
You’re the son of the human lord, the progeny of the Overlord of Inevitable End...
But isn’t this too much?
Your movements don’t even replicate the intricacies of the glowing pattern.
Have you really understood the pattern in its entirety, so much so that your simple movements reflects the glowing pattern?
None of the lightning practitioners have deciphered the glowing patterns, not even Jacob who resonates with this dimension, so why?
Why... Why?
Why did you, who lacks affinity for lightning, comprehend the glowing patterns before those who have affinity for lightning?
What kind of incomprehensible comprehension toward magic cultivation is this?
.....
Jacob released a breath of turbid air, staring at the wall with a gaze that was almost a glare.
"Complex," Jacob sighed. "It’s really complex."
Unsheathing his sword, it suddenly arched through the air with refined elegance. The sword’s edge left behind a trail of purple lightning that formed complex patterns within the caged space.
These patterns glowed with a purple hue, buzzing with power, and as his sword raced through the air, more and more patterns intertwined, slowly forming into the image of the glowing patterns on the wall.
Each stroke of his sword grew slower and slower, and even his palm holding the sword trembled as he released principle power in a manner that he had never done prior to arriving in this space.
Such a manner was absolutely exquisite, yet utterly complex. Even after comprehending on the glowing patterns and repeating the process hundreds and thousands of times, just manifesting half of the patterns in the air was incredibly draining to his psyche.
A single wrong stroke would render all his previous efforts naught.
To put it into perspective, it was akin to memorizing the order of ten thousand numbers seemingly placed randomly. And memorizing this order was only the first step, whereas completing each stroke was multiple times more difficult.
However, Jacob’s potential toward the lightning principle could not be underestimated.
With a final slash of his sword, the patterns radiating a purple hue in the air buzzed and the edge of his sword released a buzzing sword light crackling with endless lightning.
The caged space instantly shattered like glass, causing his environment to shift greatly.
