My Young Husband, The Assasin-Chapter 59: Revealing Renji’s Past
Chapter 59 - Revealing Renji's Past
Everything seemed and went as usual; nothing strange or serious had happened, according to Renji's thoughts. After returning home, Renji immediately took a shower to freshen up. At the same time, Aira prepared his clothes and placed them on the bed. Afterwards, Aira went to the dining room to prepare dinner.
Even during dinner, Aira acted normally, and everything seemed fine until they were in their bedroom, ready to rest. That's when something unusual happened.
Renji approached Aira, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, facing the window that displayed a beautiful night view.
Renji gently stroked Aira's cheek and asked softly, "Why do you look like that? Did something happen while I was away?"
Aira tilted her body slightly so their eyes met. "Renji-kun, can I ask you for something?" she said pleadingly.
"Just say it, and I'll grant it," Renji replied.
Aira carefully observed Renji's expression. "First, promise me you'll grant it, no matter what I ask, and don't get angry," she insisted.
"Alright, I promise," Renji said confidently, certain he could fulfil his wife's request.
Aira's gaze turned sombre. "Please release Maki and drop the charges against her," she requested in a pleading tone.
Renji's face immediately showed shock and anger. "How do you know about that?" he asked sharply.
"It doesn't matter how I know. I want you to do it, as you promised earlier," Aira demanded.
"Ask for something else. Even if you want a grand palace, I'll grant it. Still, not this," Renji refused, unwilling to let Maki go without facing the consequences of her actions.
"But you already promised me. Why are you going back on your word now?" Aira whined sweetly.
"Listen, honey. That woman did something terrible to you and our child. She even manipulated your sister to make you suffer," Renji reminded her.
"I know you're angry and hurt, and what you're doing is to avenge what she did to us, but—"

"My heart aches and saddens seeing people slander you and our child without knowing the truth," Renji interrupted angrily.
Aira reached out and pulled Renji into a warm embrace. One of her hands gently stroked his trembling back as he struggled to contain his anger.
"However, in life, there's always room for forgiveness, no matter how big the mistake. I want to forgive Maki and give her a chance to become a better person," Aira whispered into Renji's ear.
Renji was shocked and immediately looked sharply at Aira. "She insulted, belittled, and even tried to harm you. How can you so easily forgive her as if what she did wasn't a big deal?" he said furiously.
Aira gently stroked Renji's cheek and smiled warmly. "Since I was a child, my mother and I were used to living surrounded by hatred from those around us. We were always treated unfairly, but not once did my mother hold a grudge or harbour hatred in her heart, even after all the misfortunes she endured," Aira began to share her somewhat dark past from her time living in the Hoshino household. "My mother always told me throughout her life never to hold grudges or hatred in my heart, no matter how big the mistake, because everyone deserves a chance to change," she continued in a gentle tone.
"Your attitude could make others underestimate and take advantage of you. You should be tougher and more ruthless, like an Ishikawa, not soft and weak like this!" Renji snapped unconsciously.
Aira flinched at Renji's outburst but then smiled bitterly. "Would you prefer to see me as a cold-hearted person who has no compassion for others? Does who I am now disappoint and embarrass you?" she retorted, full of disappointment.
Renji shook his head slowly. "That's not what I meant. I don't want others to belittle you because it hurts my heart and pride as a husband who couldn't protect you and our child properly," he said, indirectly blaming himself for what had happened to Aira.
A warm, gentle smile spread across Aira's face as she looked lovingly at Renji's sad expression. She stroked his cheek and said softly, "Let those people belittle and insult us as they please. There are still so many good and caring people around me, so why should I bother with such useless things?"
"Honey," Renji stared blankly at Aira.
"If you find it hard to do because you think Maki's actions are unforgivable, try to think about the fate of the child in her womb," Aira said, trying to open Renji's mind and heart.
"Why should I care about that woman's child?" he replied irritably.
"Because the child in her womb is innocent and shouldn't have to bear the consequences of its mother's actions," Aira countered.
"Consider it the child's fate for having a mother like her," Renji sneered sarcastically.
Aira sighed softly, looking at him with disappointment. "It turns out your thoughts and attitude are almost the same as Maki's—not much different," she remarked bitterly.
"We're definitely not the same," Renji retorted, unwilling to be compared to that woman.
"Yet you're insulting Maki's baby by saying its life is unlucky just because it's her child," Aira pointed out.
Renji fell silent, struck by Aira's words.
She reached for Renji's hands, which were resting on his thighs, and held them gently. "If the child in Maki's womb could choose, it might want to be the child of another woman. Besides, children are the greatest gift from God, so don't pour your hatred, grudges, or blame onto an innocent little being."
"Why can you say that so easily after all the harm she's done to you?" Renji asked sadly, unable to believe Aira could think this way after everything that had happened.
"Because I'm also a mother," Aira replied.
Renji immediately pulled Aira into a tight, warm embrace. How noble his wife's heart was, willing to forgive someone who had tried to hurt her and even insulted their child.
After a long debate, most of which consisted of Aira's lengthy advice, Renji's heart slowly softened, and he agreed to drop the charges. However, he still couldn't bring himself to forgive Maki—it would take time to sort out his feelings.
Though she thought the conversation was over and Renji could finally rest, Aira realized their discussion wasn't finished yet. There was still something she wanted to ask, and it concerned their married life.
"Renji-kun," Aira called. They were still sitting on the edge of the bed, gazing at the starry night sky through the bedroom window.
"Hmm..." Renji hummed, wrapping his arm around Aira's shoulder and pulling her close.
"Can I ask you something?" Aira said hesitantly.
"Go ahead. I'll answer as best as I can," Renji replied, thinking Aira might ask about school lessons or something similar.
"You have to answer seriously and truthfully," Aira said, resting her head comfortably on Renji's broad chest.
"Now I'm even more curious. Quickly, tell me what my beautiful wife wants to ask," Renji urged.
Aira pulled away from Renji's embrace, her eyes gazing deeply into his, filled with questions. "Please be honest with me. What is your real job? Can you tell me about the Ishikawa family? As your wife, I have the right to know."
Renji's eyes widened, and his heart seemed to stop for a moment as Aira pressed him to reveal the truth about his work. Honestly, he wasn't ready—or perhaps he might never be able to tell her.
"Where did you get such an idea? Who's been influencing you?" Renji asked sharply.
"My own heart has been bothering me, urging me to ask you directly," Aira lied, not wanting to implicate Keiko.
"I am Renji Ishikawa, your husband and a student at Empire Gakuen. As for the Ishikawa family, we are distantly related to the Emperor from the past," Renji said, trying to cover up the truth.
Aira's expression showed slight irritation, feeling neither happy nor satisfied with Renji's answer. She was certain he was hiding something.
"Do you really consider me your wife, and do you trust me completely, just as I trust you?" Renji fell silent, his gaze filled with sorrow.
"Then I ask you, tell me the truth," Aira urged, keeping Renji down to speak with her.
"I don't, my love. It's too much for me to say," Renji admitted.
"Heavy because you don't want to tell the truth and burden me with your secret," Aira said to her.
Renji's head was lowered, hiding his sad face and tearful eyes."
Honestly, deep in my heart, there's a fear haunting me," his lips trembled as he struggled to contain his emotions. "I'm afraid you'll hate me, afraid you'll leave me, and there are so many other fears clouding my heart, making me unable to tell you the truth," he whispered, his voice filled with sadness and regret.
Renji appeared fragile, a stark contrast to the cold, ruthless figure he presented to his enemies, where he showed no mercy to anyone. But in front of Aira, everything was different because Aira was Renji's greatest weakness.
"Once you know the truth about me, you'll surely feel disgusted, hate me, and want to leave me," he thought, convinced of this because he was aware of his dark past and believed no one could ever accept him.
"That won't happen. Even if you're a bloodthirsty, cruel devil, you're still my husband, the father of my child, and the man I love," Aira said, shattering Renji's assumptions about her.
"Do you want to hear the story of a boy named Renji Ishikawa?"
"Yes, I do," Aira replied.
It was time for Renji to reveal the truth about himself, just as Aya had suggested yesterday during their consultation at the hospital. Aya had advised him to be honest with his wife if he didn't want his marriage to fall apart.
Renji began to tell his story, starting from his childhood. Back then, his life could be considered happy, just like any other child's. However, his happiness didn't last long. When he was eight years old, a tragic event struck his family, resulting in the loss of both his parents and his older brother. In an instant, Renji lost his family forever. From that point on, his paternal grandfather, Kaito Ishikawa, became his guardian and caretaker. After the death of his family, Renji's true suffering began.
Kaito raised Renji harshly and cruelly, training him in various martial arts, forcing him to learn about different weapons, and educating him in various fields of knowledge. All while placing immense expectations on Renji as the future head of the Ishikawa family, Kaito's strict and ruthless methods made Renji a perfect killing machine.
By the age of fourteen, Renji's hands were already stained with blood as he completed his first mission as an assassin under Kaito's organization.
Renji never experienced the love or warmth of a real family. His childhood was spent training and learning things that his grandfather believed would be useful in the future. All this time, Renji lived in darkness, feeling empty and meaningless in everything he did—until he reunited with Aira, the beautiful girl he had met long ago. Aira's presence became the light in the darkness of his heart and life.
For nearly an hour, Renji recounted his life story. Throughout it, Aira listened in silence, her expression a mix of shock and disbelief.
"After hearing all of this, do you still want to stay by my side, or will you leave me?" Renji murmured, his eyes filled with sadness.
Aira pulled Renji into a tight embrace, and moments later, tears streamed down her cheeks as she sobbed softly. Her face was filled with such sorrow that she unconsciously began to cry hysterically, holding Renji tightly.
"You must be angry and hate me now," Renji said with a bitter smile, still in Aira's embrace. "I'm not good at weaving beautiful apologies, but please accept my apology. You mean everything to me. Please don't leave me alone," a single tear rolled down his cheek.
Renji's shoulders trembled violently in Aira's arms. Renji Ishikawa, known for his reputation as a cold-blooded, ruthless devil, was now crying, shedding tears for the first time in so long.
"I'm not angry or hate you, and I'll never leave you alone. We'll live together forever as a family," Aira said.
"Don't pity me. Tell me honestly if you're scared or disgusted by me," Renji pleaded.
Aira cupped Renji's tear-streaked face in her hands. "Whoever you were, that's all in the past. Everyone has a past, no matter how dark or painful it is. So, stop blaming yourself," Aira said, gazing warmly at Renji.
Renji's tears flowed even more freely. He felt incredibly fortunate to have Aira by his side after enduring misfortune after misfortune since childhood.
"The person in front of me is Renji Ishikawa, my husband, the father of my child, a student at Empire Gakuen, and the only person I love with all my heart," Aira said sincerely, tears streaming down her face.
"Thank you, honey. I love you," Renji whispered, kissing Aira's forehead with love and happiness.
Renji felt an immense sense of relief. He could finally breathe freely, unburdened by the weight that had been suffocating him for so long.
Now, there was no more burden in his heart. He had honestly told Aira everything about his past and the Ishikawa family without hiding anything. Thankfully, Aira accepted Renji's past without blaming or criticizing him.
The reason Aira accepted Renji's past was that she firmly believed no one could love her as sincerely and deeply as Renji did, especially since she was the child of her parents' affair. Aira's past was far from perfect, filled with dark and sorrowful experiences. She had even endured inappropriate treatment from Raiden, where her purity was almost taken away. At that time, she had briefly considered killing Raiden, erasing that immoral man from existence forever. But if Raiden died, would she be happy? Would she feel satisfied?
The answer was no because nothing would change even if Raiden died, and time couldn't be reversed. Although it was difficult and painful at first, Aira chose to forgive because she didn't want to live a life burdened by resentment.
Renji might not have been the first man she loved, but he would be the last man she would love until the end of her life.
That night, the two of them talked, sharing stories of joy and sorrow from their pasts. Now, there were no secrets between them. Everything was laid bare because they believed that a relationship must be built on trust in addition to love.
