Chapter 54 - Judging eyes (2)

"After the ice cream is finished, we'll go home," Keiko said.

"Can't I stay here just a little longer?" Aira pleaded with a begging tone.

"Bringing you here to eat ice cream is already a violation of Mr. Renji's orders, so please don't make me break his rules any further. If we're caught, I and the others could face severe punishment from Mr. Renji," Keiko firmly refused, knowing that the current situation was unsafe, even though they were here.

"I'm sorry," Aira said regretfully.

"You don't need to apologize. Finish your ice cream. If it's not enough, you can order more, or would you like some cake too?" Keiko offered, trying to lift her mistress's mood.

"No, I'll finish the ice cream, but I can't do it quickly."

"That's fine, take your time. I'll wait patiently."

"Thank you. You're so kind and understanding. No wonder Renji-Kun chose you as my guard," Aira said with a wide smile, praising Keiko's attitude.

"Don't praise me too much, young miss. I'm just doing my job and fulfilling my duties as a personal guard paid by Mr. Renji," Keiko replied politely, as everything she did was purely based on her work responsibilities.

Since last night's costume party, Asahi Café had suddenly become the talk of the town. Not only was the event a success but it was also revealed that Renji frequently visited the café. Somehow, some female visitors found out that Renji owned Asahi Café, and it was no secret that he came almost every day to drink coffee and enjoy a slice of cake.

Ironically, whenever he was offered gifts like cakes, biscuits, or chocolates at school, he always refused, claiming he didn't like sweet food. However, the truth was that Renji did enjoy cakes and similar treats, but only if Aira made them. He would never accept or eat anything made by anyone else.

Early in the morning, long before Asahi Café opened and the staff arrived, a long line of teenage girls had already formed outside the café, stretching for dozens of meters. Most of them were not regular customers but new visitors driven by curiosity to see Renji up close and to verify the rumors circulating widely on the internet. Additionally, many were eager to meet the café staff in person, as their appearances at the costume party had captured many hearts.

Fujin was the first to be shocked by the long line of teenage girls, some screaming hysterically as if they knew him. Instead of feeling pleased, Fujin immediately ran away, not wanting to be approached.

The same thing happened to the other staff, especially Arashi, who had won the hearts of many young girls. Saki even teased Arashi, saying he now had fans and had become a teenage idol.

While the café staff received positive attention, Aira was the one who faced excessive negative attention and hatred on social media. This was due to an article posted by someone in a group chat, which was then widely spread across various social media platforms. Without verifying whether the news was trustworthy or fabricated, people quickly believed it, and netizens began leaving malicious comments. Even Aira's unborn child became a target of their cruel words.

People who consider themselves righteous, holy beings who have never committed sins or mistakes in their lives proudly curse, insult, and belittle a child who hasn't even been born yet. They seem unaware that they, too, were born from a mother—not from a stone or a lotus flower. They should understand that a baby is born into this world pure and innocent, without sin. So why should they be oppressed just because their mother's name is Aira Hoshino?

"Psst..." whispered a high school girl with twin ponytails, wearing a girls' school uniform. "Isn't that the woman everyone's talking about?" Her eyes glanced toward Aira, who was happily eating her ice cream.

"Where?" asked her friend, looking around before spotting a woman with long hair wearing a maternity dress.

"Ah~ yes, that's her," she replied enthusiastically.

"I thought she must be stunningly beautiful to dare seduce Renji Ishikawa, but she looks pretty ordinary," added a brown-haired girl with shoulder-length hair, sitting at the same table with the other two.

Soon, the three of them burst into mocking laughter while continuing to stare at Aira. Keiko's sharp ears faintly picked up the conversation of the teenage girls not far from where she stood. Fortunately, her years of specialized training allowed her to hear even the faintest sounds.

Without a word, Keiko shot them a cold, piercing glare. Instantly, the girls fell silent, too scared to look at Aira anymore. They lowered their heads as if they were facing Medusa herself—terrifying.

Keiko's phone rang inconveniently, but seeing that it was Renji calling, she had to answer immediately to avoid trouble.

"Young miss, excuse me for a moment. Please don't go anywhere while I'm gone," Keiko said.

"Okay," Aira replied obediently.

As soon as Keiko left Aira's side, the girls gossiping earlier saw an opportunity to approach and do something.

"Excuse me," a pretty, shoulder-length brown-haired girl greeted politely, accompanied by her two friends.

Aira paused for a moment, studying the girl's face with a confused look since she didn't recognize her. "Yes, can I help you?" she asked politely.

The girl smiled briefly and then asked in a still-polite tone, "Are you Aira Hoshino?"

"Yes," Aira answered shortly and clearly.

A cruel grin immediately spread across the girl's face, and without warning, she poured a glass of cold water over Aira's head.

"Sorry, my hand slipped~," she said without a hint of remorse.

"Is Auntie okay?" one of the girl's friends asked mockingly. The three looked pleased and satisfied, feeling no guilt for pouring water on Aira.

The other patrons turned their attention to Aira. Still, instead of feeling sympathy, they seemed tempted to pour water on her, too. However, they held back, not daring to cause trouble since the café was equipped with surveillance cameras. As a result, the other customers sat and watched.

Before Aira could even speak to scold them, something unexpected happened to the three girls. A full bucket of dirty mop water was poured over their heads, leaving them drenched and reeking an unpleasant odor.

"Sorry, my hand slipped," the person said flatly but with a terrifying expression.

The girls fell silent, unable to scream or protest because they were facing Arashi, a young man with a terrifying appearance and a face full of piercings. But it didn't stop there. Whether intentional or not, Saki, who happened to be walking by carrying a pot of hot soup, "slipped" and spilled it all over the girl who had poured water on Aira's head.

"Oops~ sorry, I didn't think anyone was here," Saki said, pretending to feel guilty, though her lips curled into a satisfied smile.

The shoulder-length brown-haired girl was furious at Saki's attitude and wanted to slap her in retaliation, but Arashi stopped her in time.

Arashi gripped the young girl's hand tightly. "If you dare touch her, even with just the tip of your finger, I'll break every one of your fingers," he threatened, his gaze deadly.

Who wouldn't shudder in fear under Arashi's stare? Being questioned by him was enough to make cold sweat pour down one's back, let alone be glared at so intensely. In the end, the three girls left the café, drenched and reeking of the mixture of water and dishwashing liquid that had been poured on them.

"What are you all looking at!" Arashi barked, realizing everyone had been watching the scene as if it were a drama.

Everyone immediately busied themselves, not wanting to get involved with Arashi, thinking he was a rough man who wouldn't hesitate to hit a woman—though that wasn't the case.

When Keiko returned after finishing her phone call, she was shocked to see Aira's condition. She had only been gone briefly, yet something like this had happened. What if she had been gone longer? Things might have escalated beyond just having cold water poured on her.

"I'm sorry for failing to protect you, young miss," Keiko bowed deeply, filled with regret.

"This isn't your fault, so don't blame yourself," Aira tried to comfort and calm Keiko.

Keiko's expression was filled with sadness. "But if only I had—"

"Enough, don't say anything more. Help me to the changing room so I can get changed," Aira interrupted, not wanting to dwell on what had already happened.

"Of course," Keiko replied, then helped Aira to her feet.

"Then I'll come along and help, too," Saki said, following behind them.

"Thank you, Saki-chan."

"Arashi, clean up this mess, will you?" Saki said, her tone sounding like an order.

"No problem, spoiled girl," Arashi replied, gently ruffling the top of Saki's head. Saki pouted in annoyance while fixing her hair, while Arashi smiled faintly, seemingly pleased.

Quietly, Keiko observed Saki. While observing at Asahi Café, she noticed that the girl Tetsuya had mentioned as his future wife was quite popular and liked by many men—including the eccentric-looking man who clearly had feelings for her and always showed her warm attention. Whether Saki realized it or not, Keiko couldn't help but feel jealous and envious that such warm-hearted people surrounded Saki.
