Chapter 55 - A young husband's dilemma

A middle-aged woman with half-tied hair, wearing a doctor's uniform, was known by everyone in the hospital as the head of the hospital. Besides her position, her famously stern demeanor could make even the nurses fall silent in shock and disbelief when she was visited by a young man—or rather, a teenager, as he was still in his teens—after lunch.

The woman had never imagined that the person visiting her would be the hospital's new owner.

The purpose of the visit from the young man with dark irises was not to inquire about the hospital's progress or her new role as the head of the hospital. Instead, he came to seek advice and consultation about a pregnant woman.

At first glance, it sounded strange and beyond logical reasoning—a teenager coming to the hospital to meet a doctor and ask about the condition of a woman during pregnancy.

She might not have believed it if she hadn't heard it directly. But this was the reality: Renji Ishikawa, the new owner of this immense hospital where she worked, stood before her. This young man, who could still be considered wet behind the ears, was her superior, asking for advice and tips about pregnant women. If it weren't for Renji, who had come today, she would have immediately kicked him out and given him a long lecture about how life isn't as easy as dreams or TV drama due to the impact of Renji's words, the beautiful doctor stood frozen, as if she were somewhere else for almost two minutes.

Renji clicked his tongue softly, his forehead furrowed, and his sharp eyes pierced her. "Your attitude is slightly offending me, Ms. Aya," he remarked coldly as his question had gone unanswered.

Aya jolted in surprise and returned to reality after being shocked and put into silence. Under pressure from Renji's intense gaze, she forced a stiff, polite smile.

"I don't mean to be rude, but why is a kid like you asking about pregnancy? Who exactly is pregnant?" she asked, filled with curiosity.

"My wife," he answered quickly and clearly.

"Huh?!" Aya exclaimed in shock.

Once again, Aya was left stunned. Luckily, she didn't have a heart condition, or this would have been extremely dangerous for her health.

"It's not strange for you to react like that, but answer my question instead of just staying silent," Renji complained with an annoyed tone.

"Your wife?" Aya asked again, afraid she had misheard.

"Actually, I got married about six months ago, and my wife is now thirty-two weeks pregnant," Renji explained, hoping Aya wouldn't ask further.

"So, you got her pregnant first and then married her?!" Aya exclaimed in disbelief.

"Exactly," Renji confirmed.

"Oh my God!" Aya immediately felt weak, as if her body had turned to jelly. "You are full of surprises, Renji!" she sighed, still in disbelief.

"Enough. Don't ask or discuss why I married my wife, who is seven years older than me," he said, unintentionally revealing another fact about his wife.

Aya's eyes widened, and her mouth fell open. Then, in the next second, her expression turned fierce. "Hearing that you're married already shocked me, then your wife is heavily pregnant, and now you're saying she's seven years older than you! Tell me, is there anything more shocking than all of this?" Aya demanded.

Renji's face twisted in displeasure as he clicked his tongue softly. "I came here to consult about my wife's pregnancy, not to listen to you rant," he said.

Aya tried to relax herself, avoiding panic or anger. First, she took a deep breath and exhaled slowly several times. This method worked.

From his seat, Renji watched her for a minute before asking impatiently, "Feeling calmer now?"

"Yes, and now you can tell me about your wife's pregnancy condition," Aya began her work as a doctor, treating the young man in front of her as a patient and trying to forget the earlier incident. Today had been full of surprises and unexpected events for Aya.

"Previously, my wife was diagnosed by her doctor with prenatal depression. Not only that, but her behavior during pregnancy has been full of suspicion and jealousy, often leading to arguments between us," Renji started explaining Aira's condition, also briefly mentioning some of their marital issues.

Aya's hands moved deftly as she wrote down everything Renji said in a notebook so she could later analyze and provide appropriate advice.

"First, I want to congratulate you on your marriage, although it's very late. But better late than never," Aya said with a warm, broad smile.

"Thank you. Now, about earlier, do you have any good advice for me on how I should behave and handle my wife?" Renji asked about his problem.

Aya sighed softly, thinking for a moment. Although this wasn't the first time she had handled such a case, this situation was different, considering Renji was still very young—unlike the husbands who usually came for advice, most of whom were mature men, not teenagers.

If it could be called advice, it would be more toward guidance from an adult woman who knew Renji better than a doctor. This case required a unique heart-to-heart approach to make it easier for Renji to understand.

"How about we just have a casual conversation, not as a doctor and patient," Aya suggested, trying to ease the tension and make the atmosphere more relaxed.

"That's a good idea. That way, I can speak freely and ask for your advice," Renji agreed.

Aya's eyes focused on Renji. "I don't know if what I say will be useful to you, but I'm saying this from the perspective of a woman and a mother." Renji remained silent, listening intently, confident that the advice given would be helpful.

"Getting married at a young age isn't easy, especially since you two will soon have a child. Besides preparing mentally and emotionally, you also need to prepare yourself because being a parent is no easy task. But it won't feel heavy if you do it with sincerity."

"We will take care of our child wholeheartedly and give them lots of love," Renji said warmly, clearly showing how much he already loved his child.

Aya smiled faintly, seeing the determination in Renji's heart—something rarely seen, especially in someone so young who was brave enough to marry and navigate the ups and downs of married life.

"A marriage without problems is impossible. Eventhough we've been married for decades, I still often argue with my husband over trivial matters. Differences and disputes are always there but don't lead to separation or hatred. No marriage is as smooth as a highway; there are always potholes. What's important is to keep moving forward and not stop. Don't let it become a burden; go through it and enjoy the process because it will help you mature in attitude and mindset," Aya advised, speaking like a mother to her child.

"People always say that I'm mature in attitude and thinking," Renji shared what others had said about him, whether praise or sarcasm.

"Your way of thinking is indeed mature, but when it comes to marriage, you're not fully mature yet—you're still maturing. But I must admit, you're truly extraordinary. It's rare to see a young person act as bravely as you. My child, who's already grown up, is still happily single and busy managing other people's art," Aya lamented, thinking about her only child who was abroad.

Renji's face turned slightly gloomy, or more accurately, sad. "But sometimes I think, if only I were older, maybe my attitude and way of thinking would be more mature. I could understand her better and not always feel confused about what to do or how to act, to the point where I have to gather the courage to ask you directly," he murmured, his voice filled with shame and sadness.

Aya tightly held Renji's clasped hands and gave him a warm smile. "Don't blame yourself too much. Many husbands come to consult with doctors, and there's nothing shameful about that. Besides, when your wife is pregnant, her mood can easily fluctuate. Sometimes, she might feel happy even when nothing special happened due to hormonal changes. So, it's natural. As for your wife's jealousy, let me explain." After hearing Aya's words, Renji felt better and not as sad as before.

"First, you two got married with a significant age gap. Your wife is seven years older than you while you're still a teenager. Physically, you're handsome, strong, intelligent, and wealthy. In her heart, there must be fear and insecurity toward you because, frankly, you seem perfect—the ideal man many women dream of."

"I've only ever loved my wife in my entire life," he said with full conviction.

"I understand. But you need to realize that women's feelings are sensitive, especially during pregnancy when emotions are heightened. As a husband, you must be understanding, even if it's difficult at first. Be patient. One of the reasons your wife might harbor negative suspicions is that you've never been honest with her about who you truly are, aside from being a high school student."

"I'm afraid to tell her about the other side of me," he whispered sorrowfully.

"She's not a stranger. You're married now, a family. Don't keep any secrets because they can become major problems in the future. Trust me," Aya advised, hoping Renji would be more honest and open with his wife.

It wasn't impossible that keeping a big secret could lead to significant problems in the future if Renji didn't come clean. Even though the fear of losing her or being hated was overwhelming, it had diminished his courage as the former leader of a dark organization.

After meeting Aira, marrying her, and starting a small family, Renji had been constantly plagued by fear—a feeling he hadn't experienced in years, not even during his time as an assassin or when he bore the title of a cruel devil. Now, everything had changed. Renji would rather lose all his wealth and power as the leader of a large organization called HAYABUSA than lose his child and wife, who were more precious to him than anything else in the world because they were irreplaceable.

Renji needed time and emotional readiness to reveal everything—about the Ishikawa family's past and his true identity.

"There's so much doubt in my heart. I'm afraid that if my wife finds out who I am, she'll hate me or even leave me," he said, his head bowed low, hiding his sad expression.

In all the time Aya had known Renji, this was the first time she had seen him so weak and helpless, even consumed by the fear of loss. She had once thought Renji was a cold-hearted, emotionless person who lacked compassion for those he considered enemies. But now, she realized how wrong she had been. That lonely, handsome boy was, in fact, a normal human being who could feel love and fear.

"You can tell her, so don't be sad and stay strong," Aya encouraged him, even though she knew it would be difficult for Renji. But it was a path he had to take for their future as a married couple.

"Can I really?" he asked, doubting his ability.

"You definitely can. I'm sure of it. By the way, during your wife's pregnancy, has she been eating nutritious, high-fiber foods?" Aya tried to lighten the mood, and her approach worked somewhat.

"My wife's obstetrician already advised her about that earlier, so there's no issue there."

"Then, regarding prenatal depression, it's rare during pregnancy. Has your wife been under a lot of stress during her pregnancy?"

Renji sighed quickly, his expression turning grim. "It's all because of that wretched woman, the daughter-in-law of the Kenzaki family," he hissed with hatred.

Aya was stunned, confused, and curious, and she needed a detailed explanation. "What does that woman have to do with your wife's condition?"

"I don't feel like explaining. It'll just ruin my mood," Renji refused to elaborate.

"Sorry about that. Then, my advice is to give your wife as much attention as possible. Sometimes, her behavior might seem spoiled or attention-seeking, but it's just her way of wanting to feel loved and cared for when you seem distant. Also, when was the last time your wife had a prenatal checkup?"

"Last week. According to the doctor, our baby is developing healthy, and there are no issues. It's a boy."

"The Ishikawa family finally has an heir. Congratulations on having a son."

"Thank you. After talking to you, I feel much calmer and less anxious than before."

"You're welcome. It's my job to help, and if anything else confuses you, don't hesitate to contact me. Don't be shy or embarrassed."

"Alright, thank you again for your time and advice."

"Are you leaving already?"

"Yes, I want to stop by a cake shop before heading home."

Aya smirked mischievously. "So, the famously cold young master Renji is head over heels for his wife, huh?"

"That's right," Renji chuckled, not denying it.

Aya's smile widened. "Please send my regards to your wife. I'll visit her some time with my husband."

"I'll let her know. You can come anytime, but don't bring your husband," he said, rejecting the presence of that pale-skinned, snake-loving man.

Aya laughed softly. "So, you're still upset with my husband because of that incident back then."

"I'll never forget it," Renji grumbled annoyedly before leaving the room.

Renji's face now looked brighter, unlike earlier when he seemed burdened by the weight of life despite his young age. While Renji was consulting with the doctor, his assistant waited outside.

"Young master," Fujita greeted with a worried expression.

Renji furrowed his brows, confused because Fujita had seemed fine earlier. "Did something happen?" Renji asked, puzzled.

"Earlier, Miss Keiko informed me that Miss Aira is at Asahi Café and was attacked by a few teenage girls," Fujita reported, delivering shocking news to Renji.

"What?!" Renji's expression instantly changed to one of shock and concern.

"I explicitly told her not to let Aira go anywhere after her prenatal class, but she disobeyed my orders," Renji clenched his fists tightly at his sides.

"So, where are we heading now, young master?"

"To Asahi Café. Drive as fast as you can to get there quickly," he said, rushing toward the elevator.

"Understood, young master," Fujita replied, following closely behind.
