Chapter 45 - Renji and Tetsuya's trap (1)

The festive atmosphere was palpable as soon as one stepped into the ballroom of the luxury hotel, which could accommodate around 1,000 guests and was the perfect venue for this year's Halloween event.

The hotel ballroom had been transformed by the Empire Gakuen student council members, with help from the art club, who had decorated and designed the space. Because of this event, Renji had been coming home late for the past two days.

All the event organizers worked diligently, each fulfilling their respective roles to ensure success. They couldn't afford to embarrass the school, especially since Tetsuya Ishikawa was the event's main sponsor. In contrast, the school only contributed time and effort. In a way, Tetsuya was indirectly behind the event.

It wasn't without reason that Tetsuya went out of his way to sponsor Renji's school event, even though it wasn't financially beneficial for him. On the other hand, Tetsuya's name soared, becoming a hot topic among the Empire Gakuen board members and even making headlines in magazines.

Given Tetsuya's narcissistic tendencies, it was no surprise that he felt proud when he found out he had been featured in various magazines. He even showed Saki the articles with great confidence, bringing along all the magazines that featured him.

He hoped Saki would feel jealous or impressed, but her reaction was completely different.

Instead of being happy or proud, Saki called Tetsuya a narcissist and expressed no interest in the news about him. According to Saki, what was written in the articles about Tetsuya might not be entirely accurate, as she knew his true personality better than anyone else. After all, what Tetsuya showed the outside world was mainly fake, including his broad smile.

The school invited Tetsuya as a special guest for tonight's Halloween event. He planned to attend dressed as a nine-tailed fox spirit since Renji had already taken the vampire prince costume.

"How do I look, Yamato?" Tetsuya asked, checking his appearance from head to toe in a large mirror.

Yamato carefully observed Tetsuya's outfit from top to bottom. "Beautiful, just like Yamato Nadeshiko," Yamato complimented, indirectly comparing Tetsuya's appearance to that of a noble fox spirit princess.

"I'm cosplaying as a nine-tailed fox spirit, not a princess!" Tetsuya exclaimed, annoyed that Yamato had called him beautiful instead of handsome or cool.

"My apologies, but the wig you're wearing might cause misunderstandings. You should be wearing a long white wig, not a black one," Yamato explained, offering helpful advice that Tetsuya hadn't considered.

Tetsuya rubbed his temples, realizing Renji had tricked him. "You're dead meat, chicken butt!" Tetsuya growled.

"There's still time. You can change your outfit."

"Then help me change quickly."

While Tetsuya was busy changing his costume, Fujita drove Renji's car to the hotel where the event was being held. Meanwhile, during Renji's absence, Keiko and several of her subordinates were stationed inside and outside the apartment to ensure Aira's safety.

"Fujita, make sure everything goes according to plan and that there are no mistakes," Renji said, adjusting his suit.

"Yes, Young Master."

Renji's car stopped right in front of the hotel entrance, and soon, a man dressed as a valet hurried over to open the car door.

"Thank you," Renji said to the valet who had opened the door for him.

Renji walked confidently into the hotel building. The event had already started nearly an hour ago, but the main event hadn't begun yet, as they were waiting for the guest of honor and the show's star.

The girls from outside the school had dressed as attractively as possible, with most cosplaying as princesses, believing Renji would come dressed as a prince.

Almost all of the students from outside the school arrived before the event began, hoping to meet, get to know, and chat with Renji, the head of the event committee. Unfortunately, Renji was late, and even an hour after the party had started, he had yet to show up, causing the girls to feel anxious and worried, fearing that he wouldn't come. After all, they had attended the Halloween party organized by Empire Gakuen to see Renji.

The ballroom entrance opened. Initially, the atmosphere inside was calm, and the event went smoothly. But when Renji dressed as a vampire, the girls, who had been anxious and waiting, immediately went wild. They rushed to approach Renji like fans eager to see their idol.

Renji casually walked through the crowd of girls towards the stage set up for the main event, which would soon begin—the best costume contest. The prize for the competition was no small matter: a luxurious dinner with Renji at the hotel.

"Renji-kun!!!" The girls screamed hysterically.

The atmosphere inside the ballroom was so loud, filled with the screams of the girls calling Renji's name, as if they were at an idol concert, even though Renji was standing on stage to give a speech, welcoming everyone as the student president and Halloween Empire Gakuen event chairperson.

Now that Renji had arrived, the main event began, although it was a bit late.

A girl dressed as Miko, a second-year student from class 2-A and a member of the drama club, stood on the stage with a microphone, ready to open the event. After everyone had been chatting and enjoying the food and drinks, all attention shifted to her.

"Let's warmly welcome the chairperson of this event, Renji Ishikawa!" The host shouted, and the girls immediately responded with cheers.

"Renji!" The girls screamed excitedly.

Renji took the microphone from the host. Just before speaking, Renji exhaled quickly, trying to calm himself.

"Good evening, everyone," Renji greeted all the guests.

The girls stopped shouting but continued to gaze at Renji with longing. How could they not? Renji was captivating, no less than any idol from the land of ginseng.

"Thank you for being here tonight, and to our guests from outside the school, welcome to this event," Renji said while flashing a killer smile.

The girls' hearts melted. Renji, known for being cold, apathetic, indifferent, and sparing with words, was now smiling broadly—a rare sight that deserved to be captured.

Camera flashes went off continuously for nearly a minute as the girls in the front row closest to the stage screamed happily, having successfully taken a picture of Renji. But the girls in the back, far from the stage, had to swallow the bitter pill of being unable to capture Renji's smiling face.

"This year's Halloween party is so special because we intentionally invited students from other schools to participate, get to know each other and strengthen school friendships. As the chairman of the committee and student president, I would like to thank everyone who has worked hard for this event and all the guests who are present. Without further ado, let's begin the main event of the Halloween party," Renji shouted enthusiastically at the end, making everyone join in with cheers.

When Renji finished his welcoming speech and stepped off the stage, Tetsuya had just arrived dressed as an Onmiyoji. Yamato was also accompanied by Tetsuya, who was walking briskly towards Renji.

"Why are you so late?" Renji asked, not knowing that Tetsuya's tardiness was due to his actions.

Renji silently examined Tetsuya's outfit from head to toe, smiling faintly.

Tetsuya lazily glanced at him. "Who gave the wrong information that I should wear a black wig instead of white?" he huffed.

"So what's your excuse for changing your costume," Renji chuckled, amused by Tetsuya's somewhat over-the-top appearance.

Suppose Tetsuya had come as one of the students attending the party. In that case, he won the Best Costume Award of the Year for his dedication to the outfit.

"Has the party started?" Tetsuya asked ambiguously, seeing that the ballroom inside was lively and filled with people, accompanied by a DJ's music.

Renji's dark eyes briefly narrowed as he grinned. He watched a girl with long red hair dressed as Snow White, accompanied by her two friends, walk directly toward Renji and Tetsuya. "The big party will start soon," he said, signaling Tetsuya to look to the side.

Tetsuya turned to look instinctively, and a broad smile bloomed on his handsome face. "Here, at last, is that snake girl. I am excited to see the drama you have," Tetsuya celebrated with joy.

Last but not least, the evening star, Yuna Kenzaki, entered. And with her arrival came the drama of revenge.

The sound of DJ music, along with loud cheers from the crowd, echoed throughout the hotel's ballroom. The atmosphere felt dim as the lighting was set low, with twinkling lights installed to mimic the ambiance of a nightclub.

In the dim lighting, Renji's dark eyes still managed to catch the wide, teasing smile on the face of the red-haired girl dressed as Snow White. She should have been dressed as the Evil Queen, Snow White's stepmother, as her character seemed to fit her better.

The girl, whose full name was Yuna Kenzaki, proudly displayed her victorious smile as she passed through the crowd of girls who had been eager to approach Renji but couldn't due to the rules set by Renji himself, which prohibited the girls from approaching without his permission.

Although it was not officially so, Yuna's position as Renji's fiancée made her feel proud and entitled in many ways. Yuna had no problem approaching Renji in public because she believed she did not need to follow any rules, and it was pretty easy for her to do so. She even hired makeup artists and stylists who often worked with top celebrities to ensure she would look flawless in front of Renji.

Tonight, a heavy mission had to be carried out for the sake of the Kenzaki family's future.

Yuna was determined to make Renji fall into her arms, thinking that all men were the same—weak to beautiful women, easily tempted regardless of whether they had a partner.

However, Yuna forgot one thing: not all men in this world were womanizers, scoundrels who played with women's hearts. It was like the saying, "A cloudy sky doesn't necessarily mean rain will fall," just as Renji wasn't necessarily a womanizer even though he was a man.

Meanwhile, not far from Renji, Tetsuya stood silently, smiling slyly behind the folding fan in his hand. He laughed at Yuna's desperate attempts to appear beautiful and seduce Renji, unaware that Renji was the type of man who was loyal, had strong principles, and would only love one woman in his life—like a dove that only had one mate for life.

So, no matter how hard Yuna tried to seduce and sway Renji's heart, it would be in vain, a waste of time and energy. But the night's show wouldn't have been so fun or engaging to watch if it weren't for this.

Tetsuya looked pleased, smiling broadly while imagining what his cousin would do to Yuna. This was precisely what made Tetsuya even more eager to see the event's climax, which would be exciting and dramatic.

Yamato looked confused. "Young Master, what's going on?" Yamato whispered, feeling strange seeing Tetsuya smiling happily alone when nothing had happened.

"You'll see soon. Bring me a glass of white wine," Tetsuya ordered while closing the folding fan with a bamboo tree design.

"Doctor Aya forbids you from drinking any alcoholic beverages," Yamato reminded, recalling the orders from Tetsuya's doctor.

"This is a party. I should be able to have a glass of wine to enjoy the party," Tetsuya grumbled, irritated by Yamato's nagging, which felt like a mother scolding her child.

"I apologize, Young Master, but this is for your good, so please drink this bottle of water," Yamato offered a 600 ml bottle of mineral water.

"I've been drinking water all morning. Do you think I'm a koi fish?" Tetsuya huffed, accepting the drink from Yamato.

Yamato smiled briefly in response to Tetsuya's usual complaints. "This water is specially sourced directly from mountain springs."

"All mineral water comes from mountain springs. It's just crocodile tears," Tetsuya quipped. Yamato smiled again, not saying a word.
