Chapter 43 - The threads of fate

Tetsuya massaged his throbbing temples. Just as he was about to close his eyes for a quick nap, his phone vibrated loudly. When he looked, he saw an incoming call from Renji.

"What's up, Renji?" He asked, still massaging his temples.

(I told you not to trust Raiden Hoshino! Why didn't you listen to me, Tetsuya?!!) Renji scolded on the phone, his voice high-pitched.

Tetsuya instinctively pulled the phone away from his ear. "Are you possessed, Renji? You suddenly call and start yelling." Tetsuya groaned, equally frustrated since he was also in a bad mood.

(How can I not be mad? Raiden came to my house and scared Aira half to death. Do you know that my wife can't be stressed because it could affect her pregnancy?) Renji was even angrier, his voice getting louder.

"I'm sorry. I'll warn him later." Tetsuya sighed.

(You better. And don't let him step foot in my house again.)

"Alright. I understand. Just stop being angry. My head is pounding and throbbing because I've been hit with problems all day since the morning." Tetsuya groaned, sharing a little about how evil and chaotic his day had been.

(See a doctor; your blood pressure is high.) Renji suggested.

"Maybe. Can we meet at Asahi Café now?"

(Aren't you supposed to attend the meeting with the investors?)

"I've asked Yamato to handle it because I'm not in the mood to discuss anything, even if it's a project worth tens of billions of yen. I'm too lazy, my head hurts, and I need to relax."

(Always making excuses.) Renji scoffed.

"So, can you come or not?" Tetsuya's head was throbbing more from the shouting.

(Alright.)

"I'll be waiting there."

Tetsuya hung up the phone and leaned back against the seat, trying to relax. Today was so frustrating; he hoped no more problems would come his way because his head could explode from the stress.

"Wake me up when we get to Asahi Café."

"Understood, Young Master Tetsuya." Tetsuya closed his eyes, trying to drift off into a dream, hoping he might meet his beloved, Issei.

The sweet aroma wafting from a cup of latte somewhat soothed Tetsuya's nerves after his earlier headache.

A long-haired blonde girl with a ponytail, dressed in a waitress uniform, sat with a sullen expression. Beside her was a handsome young man enjoying his latte, and many girls around them were stealing glances and even throwing flirtatious smiles, hoping to catch his attention. But not this famously feisty and energetic girl, who was forced to sit there after delivering the order. She still had a lot of work to do in the back and was too lazy to be near her sworn enemy, the pale-faced man.

"My job isn't to sit here and watch you drink coffee," she grumbled in annoyance, silently observing, having been forced to sit with Tetsuya for the past 10 minutes.

Tetsuya smiled faintly as the girl, Fujimoto Saki, began to show her irritation. "Just sit quietly and enjoy watching a handsome man drink coffee," Tetsuya said, striking a noble pose as if he were a gentleman enjoying his coffee in front of Saki.

The girls around them squealed in delight, praising Tetsuya's handsome and elegant demeanour, but Saki was not impressed.

A vein throbbed on Saki's forehead, and her fists clenched tightly as she tried to control her temper. Honestly, Saki was still angry about Tetsuya's antics a while ago when he claimed they were dating and even planning to get married this year. In reality, they were enemies and love rivals, so the idea of having a special relationship, let alone marriage, was absurd. Just thinking about it made Saki's hair stand on end, terrified of the possibility of it becoming true.

Renji had already explained and apologized over the phone for Tetsuya's over-the-top behaviour. Still, Saki couldn't help but feel annoyed and resentful. She wanted to beat Tetsuya up and, if possible, launch him into outer space so he could never return to Earth and disrupt her life again.

"Hurry up and finish your latte so I can leave," Saki said, growing impatient.

"Drinking latte should be done slowly, not rushed. It's not like drinking plain water."

"Whatever!" Saki turned her face away, refusing to look at Tetsuya.

Tetsuya's mood gradually improved, thanks to Saki, who made him smile again. His decision to come here was the right one. However, Tetsuya's joy didn't last long when the café door opened, revealing three adults entering the café.

"Cough..." Tetsuya choked in surprise as he saw the woman dressed entirely in black with her purple hair tied up in a high ponytail.

Saki smiled gleefully at Tetsuya's coughing fit. "Drink slowly," she teased, pretending to help by slapping his back stiff, though it was far from helpful.

"That hurts, pony girl!" Tetsuya exclaimed, glaring at Saki.

"I was just helping. Don't look at me like that."

Tetsuya's eyes remained fixed on the three figures, especially the purple-haired woman. It wasn't without reason that Tetsuya reacted this way—he had once again encountered Keiko, who had arrived with Renji and Aira.

Just as Tetsuya was starting to feel calm, the Medusa-like woman appeared again to disturb him. If he had known this would happen, he would have stayed home all day, comfortably curled up with a pillow and thick blanket, forgetting about all his company responsibilities.

'What kind of dream did I have last night?' Tetsuya lamented in his heart, bemoaning his bad luck.

Henceforth, Keiko would become Aira's assistant and personal bodyguard, accompanying her wherever she went for an indefinite period. This meant Tetsuya would have to constantly meet and deal with Keiko, the person he wanted to avoid the most in this world. Why were they becoming closer instead? Was this punishment from the gods for his past cruelty toward women? If that were the case, he would change from now on, improve himself, and diligently visit the shrine to pray to the gods.

If only that idiot Raiden hadn't come to Renji's house and scared Aira, Keiko would never have been assigned as Aira's bodyguard. Tetsuya felt like skinning Raiden alive and turning him into a drum, as it was all his fault that Tetsuya was now suffering.

"Is there anyone else you could have chosen as Aira's bodyguard? Why does it have to be that Medusa?" Tetsuya grumbled, expressing his dislike for Keiko.

"There's no other choice. Keiko is the right person, and the root of this disaster is you, Tetsuya. You started it," Renji retorted, refusing to take the blame and instead shifting it back to Tetsuya.

"How is it my fault?" Tetsuya felt unfairly accused.

"If it weren't for you letting Raiden live and making him your subordinate, maybe this wouldn't have happened. I wouldn't have to worry about my wife and child's safety," Renji explained, laying out the core of the problem.

Tetsuya rubbed his temples, which had suddenly started throbbing. Renji's words were valid, but he was still frustrated. He couldn't accept Renji's decision, which would only make Tetsuya's life harder in the future.

"You didn't call me here to discuss something unimportant, did you, Tetsuya?" Renji asked, his gaze meaningful.

"I ran into Hiroshi at the cemetery earlier."

"Did something happen?" Renji asked, panicked.

"No, but that's not what I want to talk about," Tetsuya said, his expression turning serious, which Renji mirrored.

"All the Kenzaki Corporation shares and Kenzaki Haru's assets have already fallen into your hands. So, what will happen to all the employees of that company? There are thousands of people working there," Tetsuya brought up the fate of the thousands of employees.

"Conduct an audit of the Kenzaki Corporation's operations, including their employees, because I have different rules. As for the production activities at the factory, keep them running since their business network is extensive, even reaching overseas. Unfortunately, their son couldn't manage the company's finances well, leading to massive debts to us," Renji lamented Kairo's incompetence as the company's CEO.

"And what about the Kurogane family's hospital?"

"Implement changes in the service system there. Fire anyone who refuses to follow my rules. Emphasize to all employees that they should be friendly and kind to every patient, without exception. Also, free services for underprivileged families should be introduced. I'll assign Dr. Aya Himura as the new head of the hospital to oversee things."

Tetsuya sipped his latte and placed the cup back on the glass table. "What's your next plan?"

"Teaching Yuna Kenzaki a lesson," Renji said, his eyes cold.

"You're not planning to beat her to a pulp, are you?" Tetsuya asked curiously.

"Don't compare me to you. I already have a plan, but you need to handle Raiden Hoshino before that. Make sure he doesn't disturb or even dare to approach Aira. Otherwise, I'll step in and kill him myself."

"Let me handle this. You stay home and do nothing," Tetsuya said, slightly panicked, knowing Renji's ruthless nature regarding people he hated.

Hiroshi's eyes lingered meaningfully on the bouquet of red roses he had brought before his daughter's grave.

"Find out who came to my daughter's grave," he ordered one of his men, Fu Fujimoto, a former intelligence agent.

"Understood, Mr. Hiroshi."

"You must find out who that person is because I'm sure the one who left these red roses must be my grandson," Hiroshi murmured, gazing longingly at the tombstone before him, which bore the name Hotaru Usagi.

Now, Hiroshi felt a glimmer of hope in finding his long-lost grandson. Once he saw him, he could finally sever ties with the Ishikawa family. Hiroshi was tired of working under Kaito Ishikawa, his longtime enemy.

It was time to turn the tables and reveal the fangs he had been hiding all this time, restraining himself as much as possible to find his grandson. For Hiroshi, his grandson was the key to destroying Kaito Ishikawa and avenging his actions—by gouging Tetsuya's eyes with his own hands.
