Chapter 89- Not Amused

The moment the teacher walked in, the girls clicked their tongues and went back to their seats. They wished they could talk to Elio more, but the start of the class stopped them, and they couldn’t say no to the teacher.

"I’m going to do the roll call. When you hear your name, lift your hand." The teacher said as he picked the list up and started calling the usual names. Students lifted their hands one by one until he reached a particular name.

"Fiona Vaylor."

Saying those words, Fiona lifted her hand, and everyone looked at her. Fiona had been absent from school for two day,s so everyone was very worried. At the same time, it wasn’t too rare for Fiona to be absent for a day or two. Most students assumed it was merely her being busy with other things.

Stopping there, the teacher looked at Fiona. "I heard that you got sick, Fiona. I hope that you are doing better now."

"Wait, what?"

"Miss Fiona was sick?"

"Oh my god... That never happened before..."

"Is it serious?"

"Is she ok?"

Many gasps of shock and concerned voices spoke immediately as every student stared at one another.

"Yes, I’m feeling better. Thank you for your concern." Fiona replied calmly, ignoring the turmoil around her.

"Good."

Not adding much to the conversation, the teacher moved to the next topic. He had received a notification from the board that he must not do anything about the absence of Fiona Vaylor and the other kid, even though they were having tests at that time.

’Hmm I don’t want to know why they said that, it’s way above my pay grade.’ He sighed and continued saying the rest of the names until he reached Elio Ashenblood.

"Hm, that name... It’s that weird, creepy guy, no?"

"Which guy?"

"You know, that ugly short one. He used to sit there. I think that’s the one who moved." One person said.

"Eeeeh, I didn’t know we had such a person to begin with. Well, it’s better that he was replaced. That guy is so handsome~"

The comments were those of curiosity as they stared at Elio. Most of them thought that he was a new student rather than a

The boy raised his hand slowly, and suddenly, the entire place dropped silent.

"Hm..." The teacher stared at Elio before he adjusted his glasses. Then, he looked at the list and then at him.

"You’re Elio?"

"Yeah?" Elio replied with an awkward look. The man was clearly asking in disbelief since for him, the boy looked so different.

"Elio?"

"Wait, isn’t that the boy you just talked about?"

"What?! That’s him?"

"Since when did he start looking like that?!"

"I couldn’t recognize him... What happened to him?"

"He looks so different. Eeeh, can someone become that good-looking out of nowhere?"

"I don’t know. This is so confusing."

The reactions were even stronger than hearing that Fiona was sick. Everyone stared at Elio as if he were some sort of alien from another world. Nobody could understand what happened to him.

In their eyes, they were staring at a different person and not the timid and ugly boy they occasionally saw sitting there.

"..." Elio pursed his lips and pulled his hand down. ’This is a bit too much, don’t you think, guys? I wasn’t that ugly to be so shocked that I changed a bit! I didn’t even change that much!’ He cried in his head as he looked at the table.

This day turned out to be way harder than he expected. The attention was simply over the roof, and he wasn’t ready for it whatsoever.

In the end, the teacher made them go quiet again.

"Well, we will move to the next person now. I don’t want to hear more noise." The man said as he picked up the list.

’This is definitely way above my pay grade! I don’t even know what it is!’

With that, the class continued, with a vibe that was completely different from usual. A very weird and yet somewhat curious vibe.

*RING*

The moment the first half of the day was over, and the lunch break arrived, Elio stood up to leave as usual for his lunch. However, at that moment, someone approached him from behind and tapped his shoulder.

"Hey, Elio." A girl said with a smile on her face. "I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch with us. Did you bring something? We can share together."

She then pointed at two tables where four girls were sitting.

"Ummm, I really appreciate the offer. But I usually eat outside, haha. I need some fresh air." Elio said with the friendliest smile he could muster.

"Oh... Well, I see." She nodded her head with a disappointed look on her face. Elio then turned around and walked out. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Going to the cafeteria, he bought some food and headed to his usual spot. Sitting down, he was about to start eating as usual when...

"Oh, you eat here, Elio?"

At that moment, a group of different people approached him.

"..."

"Care if we join you?"

"Ummm..." Elio rubbed his head before he looked to his side. There was an empty spot, so he couldn’t really find a good reason to say no.

"Yeah, sure..."

"Great! Oh my god, we could finally talk to you. That grumpy teacher is so annoying, isn’t he?"

The girls sat down next to him, touching his shoulder as they tucked in as much as possible.

"..."

"I was so surprised when he said your name. You have changed so much~"

"Yeah, I thought so too. Like, you are sooo cool! What happened? Did you start training?"

The girls asked him from left and right as they stared at him with sparkling eyes. Elio was completely lost, unable to reply quickly. However, his Energy quickly channeled to calm him down as he mustered the mental capacity to speak.

"Yeah... I started training, and I guess I kind of hit a growth spurt, haha."

"Whoa, a growth spurt? That makes sense. You are taller now."

"Mmm, I didn’t know growth spurts could happen so fast. It must be a special case."

The girls talked as they started eating. Meanwhile, Elio sat there, unable to even eat as he talked to them. They were extremely chatty, to the point where he was surprised they even found time to take bites from their food.

’Someone save me, please. This is torture.’

Elio had always looked at good-looking guys with a lot of admiration and envy. Deep down, he wished he were like them so he could get a lot of attention too. But, merely a few hours of this and he already hates it.

Having to deal with so many energetic and extroverted people was such a mental struggle. He didn’t have the energy or the social capacity to talk to so many pretty girls at the same time.

He wanted to find a way out, but they kept talking to him, so he couldn’t eat and couldn’t leave, since it was extremely rude. At the same time, the girls kept getting closer and closer from to the point where their legs and shoulders were touching clearly, and they didn’t seem that bothered by it.

As he was like that, struggling to find a way to get out. He suddenly saw a silhouette approaching them from afar.

’Fiona?’ Elio frowned when he saw a familiar face approach.

"Hm?"

"Is that...?"

"Miss Fiona?"

They all saw her coming toward them, and they were clearly confused. The moment she reached them, she stopped and looked at the girls. Her eyes were colder than usual, and Elio noticed that.

He felt her threatening presence as she spoke. "All of you four, leave. Now."

She said with complete authority. Elio’s eyes widened as he looked around him. ’Fiona?! What are you doing?!’

He was terrified that she might get them exposed just like that. After all, why was she even there and telling them to leave in the first place? That made no sense whatsoever. However, what happened next was even more surprising.

All the girls suddenly froze unnaturally before they turned away and stood up robotically. Then, they walked away in silence as if nothing happened. Their eyes were empty, and they looked completely different from earlier.

"..."

Elio watched that sight in awe. He understood that Fiona had done something to them, maybe like hypnotizing them to make them leave. However, seeing it in action was so shocking.

"You should start eating." She said, snapping him out of his daze as she sat down.

"Umm... Those gir-"

"Don’t worry about them. They won’t bother you ever again." She said coldly, almost unnaturally so. Fiona sounded a bit angry, which confused Elio even more. ’Is she angry that I’m getting so much attention? Yeah, that makes sense; it’s very risky after all. You never know who could be planning malicious things.’

Nodding his head at his logical conclusion, he finally started eating.

"Thank you so much, Fiona. It was definitely very awkward." He said. "Now, I feel at ease."

His words were innocent and carefree, but when Fiona heard them, she felt like someone had poured cold water on her head. Staring at Elio... She muttered.

"Is that so?"
