Chapter 88- New Student

Reaching the usual spot, Elio got off and picked up his bag. "I will see you later, Fiona." He said.

"Mhm." She nodded her head. "Be careful on the way."

"I will, don’t worry." He said and then the car left. Elio took a moment to breathe in the fresh morning air before he started walking. It was cold that day yet he didn’t feel that cold. His body was now way better at regulating heat.

He didn’t even need to wear a coat to feel like it was a warm spring day. Blood Energy was truly a magical form of energy.

As he walked, however, Elio started noticing something odd that made him frown. There were eyes staring at him from everywhere. He didn’t have this experience before so he was quite confused.

It was one or two glances like usual but several and it was all from students or people passing beside him.

’Why are they looking at me? Is there something on my face?’ He shuddered. This kind of attention was completely new to him and he didn’t like it.

So, instinctively, he hurried his steps to school. However, the closer he got, the more these eyes increased. He even started hearing mutters and whispers from the students.

"Who’s that handsome guy?"

"Hmmm, he looks so cute..."

"Is he a new student?"

"Have you seen him before?"

Many seemed curious, and surprisingly, most of them are girls with a few boys in between. Elio could hear it all since his hearing ability was three times that of a normal person. His face paled as he kept his eyes down and rushed inside.

But, that was only the start. More and more students started staring at him. He felt like he was the center of attention for the very first time in his life. Except, it wasn’t the usual scrutiny he receives for his disgusting appearance.

This time... it was very different.

The looks seemed impressed, interested, and even outright admiring.

’They’re all looking! Is it because of the changes that happened to my face?’ He asked himself as he touched his chin instinctively. That was possibly the reason. After all, it had been a few days since he came to school, and he had changed a lot during those few days, he was basically a new person in the eyes of the students.

So, hurrying his steps as much as he could to the class, he finally reached his seat and sat down, exhaling heavily. This was such a horrendously long trip to the classroom, he didn’t even notice that walking all this way was that long.

Still, even as he sat down, everyone stared at him in silence, confused as to who he was.

"I didn’t know we had a new student joining us?"

"Hm? Is he?"

"Who used to sit there? I forgot completely."

"I don’t know either... Some random students who probably moved out?"

"Yeah, could be."

"He’s so handsome though... Do you think I should go talk to him?"

"Hey, don’t do that alone. I’m going to welcome him too."

"Bleh... What do you even see about him? He’s barely above average anyway." A guy said to the group of girls, who gave him a strong glare and made him move away.

Meanwhile, Fiona, who was sitting in her place, stared over her shoulder at Elio. She noticed how people were staring at him, and for some reason, she didn’t like that. Knowing how he was probably feeling, she wanted to find a way to divert attention from him, but it was going to be hard without making it obvious.

So, for now, Elio had to deal with it on his own until she figures something out. She hoped he would be able to adapt a little bit to it.

Meanwhile, Elio was simply staring down, trying to mind his own business.

"Hey there, good morning."

At that moment, a girl approached him from the side and greeted him with a smile on her face. She was decently pretty with a friendly smile.

"Hm? Oh, good morning..." Elio looked at her and tried to switch his nerve off and be calm. So what if people were staring at him? He had to adapt and learn how to deal with it properly. He wasn’t supposed to remain the same antisocial goblin he was.

"Are you a new student here? What’s your name?" She asked as she leaned over the table casually, showing far more than normal.

"Ummm..."

"Oh, you’re talking to the new student, Emi?"

"Yeah, he seems so nice."

Another girl approached them, then another girl, and soon enough, a group was standing around him, talking to him with pleasant smiles on their faces.

Elio had never been in a situation like this one before. This attention, those smiles and friendliness. He had never had it before and it confused him greatly.

Was all he needed just some changes to his looks? He had been completely eliminated from society and never made any friends and then he changed a bit and now suddenly, girls talk to him?

"..." His nervousness slowly faded as he started realizing it. Looks for these people were essential. If you aren’t good looking, or rich, or both, you are essentially a nobody to them. You don’t exist and even if you exist, you aren’t worth being their friend.

His eyes turned from nervous, to calm, to cold. At first, he thought he was going to enjoy it, but then he simply lost all that interest as he picked his book up and started reading it, giving half-assed responses.

"Hm?"

"Are you ok?"

"Are we bothering?"

The girls started noticing that he was quiet and didn’t respond much so they grew concerned.

"Mmm, I’m not too familiar with talking to people this much," Elio said with a cold smile. "But, I really appreciate you all talking to me."

Before the girls could reply, the bell rang and the teacher walked in.

"Now, everyone. Please sit down. We are beginning."
