Chapter 90- Be Careful Out There

The two continued eating their lunch together. The awkward mood had disappeared the moment Fiona came, and Elio finally felt like he could be himself. He hadn’t noticed how much he liked Fiona’s presence, even though she was perhaps the most intimidating person he would ever meet.

The fact that he became friends with someone of her title and influence was already ridiculous; the fact that he found her presence way more enjoyable than other random people of his level was even crazier.

But that was one thing added to the long list of ridiculous things that happened to Elio in the past 10 days or so. He had lost count of the abnormal things long ago and now was simply riding the wave and seeing where it led him.

As they ate food, the two talked about random topics that didn’t relate to work or training. The two had found it quite enjoyable to just talk about things with each other without even realizing it.

They had spent most of the day every day just talking to each other and being around each other so a bond was growing between them, one that exceeded partnership. Yet, since it was so natural, neither realized it, and they simply enjoyed it as a given.

Eventually, the lunch was over, and they resumed their classes. The day was going normally, and Elio was quite excited to continue training when he got back home. There was so much he needed to do that he was ready to jump out of his seat and leave the moment the bell rang.

Around 4 PM, during the second class, the teacher was explaining the lesson normally when Fiona, who was sitting at the far front, suddenly flinched slightly as she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket.

It vibrated once, twice, three times... And then, four.

Four times.

Her eyes darkened immediately as she looked up. She didn’t even hesitate as she raised her hand.

"Excuse me." She said.

"Hm?"

"May I please go to the restroom?" Fiona said.

"Yeah, go ahead, Fiona."

The students looked at her, a bit confused. But, it wasn’t that shocking, so everyone focused again. This wasn’t some sort of first time that Fiona had decided to go to the restroom.

However, the only person there who was confused and felt that something was off was Elio. He watched as Fiona quickly left.

’Is she ok?’ His heart was immediately filled with unease. However, he didn’t let himself get too caught in it as he tried to focus on the lesson again.

Fiona will be fine.

The moment Fiona left the classroom, she pulled her phone out and dialed a number. "What happened, Alfred?" She asked the moment the call was picked.

"My lady, I’m heading to the school. Something bad happened!" The man said in an oddly terrified tone. It was rare to hear him that disturbed, so it immediately made Fiona think of the worst.

"Speak."

"The young master has been heavily injured. He had engaged in a battle with the same vampire that attacked you."

"What? Engaged in a battle?" Fiona stopped for a second. "Why did he do that?"

"I don’t know... But he suffered heavy injuries, and he is now getting treated, but when he was found, he was almost dead."

"..."

’That bastard almost died?’ Fiona clenched her teeth. ’How strong is this vampire?’

Her heart grew cold. If Virgo of all people was that injured, even though she knew his abilities, then this was far beyond a threat, or even a disaster... This was a matter that needed immediate care.

This vampire had attacked two of Vaylor’s most important individuals without a care in the world. He had basically declared full war on the Vaylor clan.

The worst had happened, and Fiona realized that immediately as she stopped at the window and stared outside.

"That man... will turn that forest into an inferno..." She muttered. Imagining the kind of reaction her father will have, even she feared it. That man was not someone you could offend once, let alone twice. She knew that no matter what will happen next, it will be very ugly.

Rubbing her temples, she tried to calm her nerves and looked up at the sky. Every time she felt stressed, Fiona would stare up and try to empty her mind of all the messy thoughts.

"Fiona!"

"Hm?"

At that moment, Fiona heard someone calling for her. Turning around, she saw Elio approaching her in a hurry.

"Elio? Why did you leave the classroom?"

"I... I noticed that you looked different and I couldn’t stop myself. Is everything ok?" He asked.

"..."

’He noticed it? How... I made sure to hide it well.’ She blinked. Did he deduce that she was worried purely from a small, fleeting look?

That was ridiculous.

"Did something happen?"

"..." Fiona pursed her lips before she turned away. "An important member of the Vaylor clan has engaged in a battle with that vampire that attacked us. I don’t know what happened yet, but they were heavily injured." She said.

"What...?"

"I’m going to head there. Feel free to go back home first. Do you need money to get a taxi?" She asked.

"No, I will be fine." He said. "Are you going to be fine?"

"Yeah... I’m just going to check the matter and be back later at night. Don’t worry."

Silence took over the hallway for a few seconds as the two stared at each other. They weren’t talking, but one could see that their eyes were speaking instead. Elio wanted to dig for the truth within her eyes, and Fiona wanted to show him that she would truly be fine.

In the end, he sighed and nodded his head. "I understand. I will go back first, then."

"Good." Fiona then turned around to leave. But, before she could walk too far, Elio called for her.

"Hey, Fiona."

"Hm?" She turned to look at him confusedly. "Do you need something?"

"No... Just... Be careful out there, ok?" He said.

It was a simple sentence, one that could be said to anyone without too much to think about. However, for Fiona, it carried a way deeper meaning. Hearing his soft tone and subtle concern that he tried to hide within, it filled her heart with warmth she never felt before.

Turning around, she looked at Elio and then smiled. "I will. Just make sure to wait for me."

Then, she turned around and walked away as Elio watched her silently. For some reason, even with that beautiful, confident smile... His heart refused to calm down.

Something told him to call for her, or perhaps chase her. But what logic did that bring? He was weak; what could he do even if he went after her? He would only be a liability.

Clenching his fists, he turned around and walked back.

’Soon, I won’t be a dead weight anymore. I will be someone she can rely on.’ He muttered to himself.

He was going to do 100%... No, 1000% of his effort to make sure that happens. He won’t be the same weak boy she has to protect.
