Chapter 117: The Smell Of Progress

Percival had learned most of it yesterday, specifically speaking, Ethan’s access to all classes. He was shocked out of his senses after finding out, but he eventually swallowed the pill.

And admittedly, it felt relieving now that he knew. However, he hadn’t known this part.

Ethan had an awkward face as Percival approached further.

"Somehow you know my family’s technique too?" Percival asked with both hands wide in exasperation.

Ethan chuckled slightly. "I actually did learn that from watching you."

Percival shook his head. "After last night, none of anything with you makes sense, and I’m not going to start trying to make any of it do."

He paused, then added with a grin, "Next you’re going to tell me you can also lay eggs or some shit."

Ethan blinked. "What?"

"You’re a dragon, right?" Percival said, looking almost serious. "Do they not lay eggs?"

Ethan stared at him for a moment before shaking his head amusingly. "Oh you’re such an idiot."

Percival laughed and walked past him, rolling his shoulders while staring at Nina. "I heard fighting. I take it you were sparring with your summon?"

Ethan turned. "Yeah. And if you’re trying to do what I think you’re trying to do, I’m giving you fair warning right now. You will get cooked."

Percival scoffed. "Oh please..."

He shifted into his wolf transformation, his frame expanding as fur spread across his body.

Nina stared at Percival with no expression on her face.

Ethan said calmly, "Nina, take the weapons away. Hands only. And do not use the force to kill or maim."

"Yes, my liege," she said.

Percival grinned. "C’mon Ethan don’t ruin the fun. She doesn’t have to go easy on—"

But in that instant, Nina moved.

Her fist drove into his gut with such speed that Percival didn’t even register the movement until he was already airborne. His body flew backward and slammed into the ground several meters away with a heavy thud that kicked up dust.

He lay there for a moment, gasping for air.

Ethan shook his head in amusement and turned his attention away to stare back at the rest of the notifications he had been paying less attention to. The screen before him looked like a cluster folded into one.

Ethan nodded in satisfaction and turned over to see Percival lunge again at Nina, only to receive another nasty uppercut blow that lifted him upwards.

"Ooouu," Ethan winced, his face grimacing at the impact. "That one’s going to hurt"

Percival hit the ground again, rolled twice, then pushed himself back up.

"Okay," Percival panted. "Okay, I get it now."

Nina tilted her head slightly, waiting.

And Percival charged again.

This time, Nina sidestepped and delivered a clean hook to his ribs that sent him stumbling sideways.

Ethan just watched, shaking his head.

——

A few hours toward evening...

Ethan, Percival, and Nina were still at the same spot in the courtyard. Although in Percival’s case, he was laid out on the ground with his eyes rolled back into white, different bruises and smudges of dirt covering his face.

And he had been that way for about twenty minutes.

Nina was standing over him, staring down at him with no particular expression, unlike how she would have reacted if it were Ethan lying there.

Ethan, on the other hand, was getting a hold of the space element spell from the mini grimoire he had won at the auction.

It wasn’t too flashy for a tier 6 spell. It was a spell that created a protective spatial sphere around the caster.

Call it luck or something, but there was no better time to learn a spell like this if not at this time.

However, a vehicle was approaching toward the manor’s road, and the summon outside the gates reacted. The bond skill that shared their vision and mind together alerted Ethan to the incoming visitor.

Ethan stopped what he was doing for a second and narrowed his eyes at the blank space before him, which turned out to be the exact thing his summon outside the gates did.

On closer look, it turned out it was just the princess, who was in the passenger seat of a vintage sedan being driven by a guy with blue hair dressed like royalty would.

Ethan undid his transformation and headed for the gate as he raised his hand toward the sky. A purple magic circle appeared above his palm, and a faint glow of the larger one overhead flashed for a second.

Ethan had just readjusted the sealing barrier spell to let the one who came with the princess pass through as well.

When a summoner achieved the bond state with their summon, which allowed for shared visions and thoughts, it was as though their brain adjusted naturally to be able to deal with the other sensory input without feeling a sort of overload.

It became naturally part of them.

Although, however, it had never been heard that one had the one too many summons Ethan had. So maybe the system helped with that, or his brain adjusted naturally. One couldn’t say for sure.

And Ethan never gave it one second thought of worry, as it never even occurred to him.

Eventually, the sedan rode into the courtyard and came to a halt. The princess stepped out and went to embrace Ethan, and when they pulled apart slightly, she said, "Hey."

Ethan said, "Hey," back with a smile on his face.

She turned upwards for a second and asked, "the compound is spelled?"

Ethan nodded. "Yeah, barrier spell. I’m taking the extra caution"

Rayleigh stepped out of the driver’s seat, and his hand flew to his nose immediately as he took a few steps back.

"That smell!" he exclaimed with a grimace on his face.

Both Isabella and Ethan turned to him, but Ethan had more surprise on his face.

"Yeah, that’s Ray, and he has an abnormally sensitive nose," Isabella said in amusement. "You need to take a shower, babe. You reek."

"But you just hugged me..." Ethan started to say when Isabella cut him off.

"I love you that much, Ethan. It’s the only reason why."

Ethan sighed and shook his head with a smile. "I’ve been training all day."

Then he turned to Rayleigh, whom he knew from all their texting was Isabella’s younger brother. "Welcome to my house, Rayleigh."

He gestured for them both to come right in.

But Isabella said, "Actually, we’re leaving right away. Ray came himself to pick me up from the academy. My little brother’s playing bodyguard."

She smiled, then added with a slight frown, "And since you won’t answer any of my texts, I asked him to turn this way because I wanted to know how you were doing and if you were okay."

Ethan had a remorseful look on his face as he said with a smile, "Oh, I’m so sorry, love. I haven’t looked at that device all day."

He touched her chin gently.

"Go away," Isabella said, feigning annoyance with a smile still on her face.
