Chapter 693: Chapter 691: Little Cotton-padded Jacket

Jiang Yao fell silent.

Qiaoqiao’s words were right, she shouldn’t view the men who came into her life with her preconceived notions of love, as it was unfair to both her and them.

Seeing this, Qiaoqiao knew her words had been heard, so she didn’t say more.

Some things should be touched upon lightly— after all, they weren’t children, and there was no need to thoroughly dissect every principle and force-feed it to them to be considered acceptable.

She put on her gloves again and leisurely began peeling the crayfish. "Some things, if you don’t want to talk about them, then don’t. Whenever you’re ready to tell me, I’m always available."

"..."

Looking at Qiaoqiao, Jiang Yao felt a warm, cozy sensation. She moved closer and hugged Qiaoqiao, resting her head on her shoulder. "Qiaoqiao, you really are my little padded jacket."

Qiaoqiao paused in her peeling. "Are you saying I’m your daughter?"

It must be said, she always had a knack for breaking the mood.

But the touch she brought to Jiang Yao had not yet faded, and Jiang Yao didn’t mind, instead tightening her hold.

"Even though you’ve analyzed Huo Mutian and Lin Luang’s attitudes towards you before, now that you’ve reconciled with President Fu, have you dealt with those two issues? Don’t let them backfire later."

"Lin Luang joined his teacher on a project in the mountains a couple days ago, the signal there is bad; Huo Mutian is on a business trip abroad, and there hasn’t been much contact recently. We’ll talk about it when they return."

Mainly, if there wasn’t some sort of catalyst, suddenly bringing up the news that she was back with Jinghen would feel weird.

Jiang Yao narrowed her eyes, feeling as if she had found a loophole. "It’s not because these two admirers of yours were away lately that President Fu could swoop in and reconcile with you, is it?"

Qiaoqiao glanced at her. "Do you think if I didn’t want to, Jinghen would have any opportunity to take advantage of?"

"...Right."

Qiaoqiao handed the peeled shrimp to her mouth. "Here, let Teacher Qiao feed you."

Jiang Yao obediently opened her mouth, allowing Qiaoqiao to stuff the shrimp in. "Thank you, Teacher Qiao."

Qiaoqiao smiled and picked up another shrimp, proficiently peeling it.

As she peeled, she suddenly remembered that she had been peeling shrimp all evening, first for Fu Qiang, then for Jiang Yao, but not for Jinghen. That petty man probably started to feel sour about it.

Thinking of Jinghen waiting for her in his apartment across the street, Qiaoqiao suddenly felt eager to return.

But Jiang Yao was emotionally sensitive right now and needed company.

After weighing her options, Qiaoqiao chose to stay with Jiang Yao.

After all, she and Jinghen still had the whole night.

-

Later, after Jiang Yao’s mood had improved, they chatted, ate, and watched a movie together, creating a joyful atmosphere. If it weren’t for the eerie scenes displayed on the projection screen, one might think they were watching a comedy.

After the movie ended, it was already past midnight.

Qiaoqiao and Jiang Yao cleaned up the mess on the coffee table and bid each other goodnight, then she headed across the hall.

Initially unhurried, once the door closed behind her, her demeanor completely changed, and she dashed to her own front door in eager strides.

The words "can’t wait" were practically written on her face.

Jinghen had messaged her over an hour before, saying he was using her computer to do some work. Qiaoqiao had planned to sneak in and surprise him but, unexpectedly, just as she opened her door, saw Jinghen standing at the threshold.

Qiaoqiao’s legs gave out, and she staggered. "Oh my!"
