Simon Sutton searched the entire building but couldn’t find Melody Thorne. It wasn’t until he reached the second floor that he saw his CEO had somehow managed to pry the elevator halfway open, and the sounds of cars speeding up from downstairs indicated that the elevator repairmen had arrived.

Compared to his CEO, Simon honestly felt like his own intelligence must have been bitten off by a dog. That loud noise just now was definitely the elevator—how could there be any other sounds?

"Simon!" Jared Quinn lifted the already unconscious Melody Thorne, but he couldn’t get out while holding her like that.

"Right away," Simon hurriedly helped open the elevator doors a bit more.

"Clang." Suddenly, the elevator made another noise and began plummeting uncontrollably downwards.

"Boss!" Simon exclaimed in shock.

Jared’s arm quickly sent Melody out onto the floor outside the elevator, but before he could get out himself, he fell with the elevator as it dropped.

"Boss!" Simon’s face turned pale, breaking out in a cold sweat.

"Boom." The elevator crashed to the lowest level with a loud bang.

"Quick, quick, go rescue them!" Simon shouted at the newly arrived elevator technician.

"Okay, okay."

When Melody Thorne woke up, she was in a hospital room, and the back of her head ached.

"Melody, you’re awake?" Hans Montrose leaned over the bedside, looking at her anxiously. "How are you feeling? Does the back of your head hurt? Should we call the doctor to check you over?"

Melody reached to the back of her head and let out a cry of pain when she touched it, especially the skull; it hurt when touched.

The elevator broke yesterday, and she remembered nothing after that, but did she hear Jared Quinn’s voice?

"No need, no need," Melody sat up, noticing her knees also hurt. She lifted the blanket to find her knee was bruised, already darkened—it seemed seriously injured.

"How did I end up in the hospital? Did you rescue me?" Melody turned her head to the side.

Hans poured her a glass of water without answering. When he arrived, he saw her lying on the ground while Simon and the repairman were busy rescuing others.

It was presumed to be Jared Quinn.

"Drink some water first," Hans handed her the water. "You’ve been asleep for two hours. It’s raining heavily outside, and it won’t be daytime for a few hours. Get some more sleep."

Without an answer, Melody assumed it was Hans who saved her, so she didn’t think much further.

"Alright."

Melody lay down, but even with her eyes closed, she couldn’t sleep. Could it be that Jared Quinn fell asleep in the car and didn’t notice she was injured?

Morning.

Hans carefully helped her out of the hospital, attentively taking care of her every step of the way.

From a hospital window, a man’s gaze stayed on the outside until Melody Thorne’s figure disappeared. One large hand was almost skinned and fractured. Jared Quinn had managed to withdraw his arm as the elevator doors closed, but not his hand, and it had been a while, requiring a long recovery period.

At the moment, he couldn’t move his hand at all.

"Mr. Quinn, go back to your room to rest. I’ve arranged to keep your injury a secret so no one can exploit this situation," Dr. Mo said, holding the man’s arm. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The scene outside was truly heart-wrenching.

Jared Quinn’s sharp gaze swept over Dr. Mo. "Including Melody Thorne!"
