Chapter 220: Finally Getting a Grimoire!?

Grey raised his brows in puzzlement as he surveyed the group.

Two young women, both around twenty, wore the typical attire common among women of this era. Another stood out, a mature woman in her thirties, dressed in a revealing one-piece outfit that caught Grey’s eye.

The remaining six were all young men, roughly the same age, and there was one elderly man among them.

The eleven exchanged uneasy glances, eyes flickering to each other’s tokens with growing confusion. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Their pupils widened in disbelief.

"Who’s being overconfident?" someone muttered under their breath.

Grey scanned the tokens again and quickly withdrew his gaze.

Except for that one mature woman, whose spiritual htz was just above 500, every other token showed values well below that.

As everyone exchanged glances, their eyes all fell on the smallest man in the group. Though no taller than a child, a scraggly beard grew stubbornly from his chin, giving him a peculiar appearance.

The mature woman pointed sharply at him and called out, "He has the lowest spirituality."

All eyes turned to the short man, whose startled expression deepened.

"I’m a fallen noble! How could I possibly have such low spiritual htz?" he protested fiercely, glancing down at his token, which read 412, close to others but still far too low.

"Guards," the short pink-haired man barked coldly, clearly losing patience.

Muscular guards appeared and swiftly seized the man despite his struggles, dragging him backward.

The humiliation only deepened as he was pulled away, his protests faded into an embarrassed silence.

"Cough." The pink-haired man cleared his throat, drawing the attention of the four and the rest of the crowd. "Alright, now that’s settled, each of you will be given one chance to tame a Grimoire."

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle.

"There are many Grimoires here, two of them Diamond-tier, still untamed. Good luck to everyone."

Raising his hand, a surge of spiritual energy erupted upward like a radiant beacon, its light shimmering in the shape of cubes, reminiscent of the cube game where everything was composed of blocks.

A red Grimoire materialized before him, glowing softly as the pink-haired man began to scribble mysterious symbols onto its pages.

Suddenly, a gate opened, shimmering into existence before everyone’s eyes.

Grey watched, puzzled. ’What exactly is going on here?’

"Go inside, you ten," the man said again, his tone gentle but firm.

The ten exchanged brief glances before stepping, one by one, through the shimmering gate.

Immediately, they were swallowed by darkness, an endless, oppressive void.

Grey blinked, disoriented for a moment.

But then he noticed those around him extending their hands forward, releasing surges of spiritual energy that pierced the gloom.

Rustling sounds filled the air, the unmistakable flipping of countless pages.

Gradually, Grimoires appeared, hovering in front of them, their pages turning relentlessly.

One by one, the Grimoires floated down and settled before each participant, continuing their endless flipping of the pages.

At this moment, Grey understood exactly how this trial worked.

"You don’t choose the Grimoire—the Grimoire chooses you!"

Grey focused, channeling his spiritual energy outward in a steady pulse.

The nine others watched him closely, their eyes filled with curiosity and anticipation.

Suddenly, the sharp rustling of pages echoed through the chamber.

Before them, a massive Grimoire materialized, glowing with a brilliant red light.

"Is that a Diamond Grimoire?" the mature woman breathed, disbelief lacing her voice.

Her gaze locked onto Grey, filled with a mix of awe and wariness.

Then, a deep, thunderous roar erupted from the pages as a beastly voice echoed around the room.

The Grimoire itself had spoken.

"That Grimoire can talk," the mature woman confirmed. "It must be one of the two Diamond Grimoires, one of them is strong and another one is... less useful."

"What’s the useless one?" another girl asked, curiosity shining in her eyes.

"The useless one is the Soul Grimoire," the mature woman replied in a deep, serious tone.

"Soul Grimoire?" The girl’s eyes widened in surprise.

"Yeah," the woman continued, "it holds the power to connect souls or sever them. There are many hidden abilities no one fully understands, but those two are its most infamous. I even heard that its previous wielder was killed by... the loud voices of a girl."

"The loud voice of a girl?" The girl’s confusion deepened.

"A Diamond Grimoire that can kill its own user, that’s terrifying." Another smarter boy chimed in.

Meanwhile, Grey stared at his blue panel, brows furrowed in confusion.

’Soul Grimoire?’ he muttered to himself, unsure what to make of it.

[You have been challenged by the Diamond Soul Grimoire]

[Accept / Decline]

Without a moment’s hesitation, Grey selected: Accept.

The Grimoire before him blazed with a brilliant red light, then shot through the air like a comet—directly merging into his body.

Grey’s eyes fluttered shut as he collapsed to the ground with a heavy thud, swallowed by the surrounding darkness.

The nine others exchanged glances.

"He’s definitely excited," one whispered.

"Well, who wouldn’t be? Getting a Diamond Grimoire right off the bat, even we haven’t seen that before." the mature woman retorted.

"How long do you think it’ll take him to finish this trial?" another asked.

"Probably about a week. The fastest recorded completion for a Diamond Grimoire trial was just a single day."

"My bet’s one month," one murmured.

"He’s a high-tier trainee, just a hair away from Disciple, if he manages to raise his spiritual htz even a little," another added.

"Hmm, that sounds about right," a third agreed.

"Then, I’d say three weeks at the very least."

As the nine continued their quiet speculation, Grey suddenly sprang to his feet, snapping his eyes open and scanning the dark space around him.

"Eh... he already finished?" the mature woman whispered, utterly stunned, her eyes widening to their fullest.

Everyone was stunned, Grey included because when his vision abruptly shifted.

He found himself seeing a woman lying on a bed while he gazed at her, she also looked back at him.

The woman was dressed in very loose clothes and wore a Qipao which revealed almost every part of her body. Her sultry eyes locked onto his, and with a slow, seductive smile, she parted her red lips and whispered:

"I am choosing you, you are not choosing me."
