Chapter 157: Chapter 157: If You Like It, You Have to Own It!

Is it just a passing novelty, or is it really her?

The words Russell Yates said felt like a venomous snake, slipping unexpectedly into Jack Yates’s heart, coiling and biting deep inside.

Jack Yates irritably lit a cigarette, looking through the smoke at Renee Winslow, who was sitting on the bench.

In the bright autumn sun, the girl’s fair face blushed with a tint that no rouge could imitate.

The delicate young girl looked at him with her clear, bright eyes and gave him a soft, obedient smile.

Jack Yates smiled back, snuffed out the cigarette, and walked over with a grin.

"Did anything catch your eye?" Jack leaned over, raising his hand to gently touch her soft face with the back of his hand. "The lotus bowl with the twilight blue and silver inlay, do you like it?"

Renee thought he would continue asking about when they would get married, but she didn’t expect him to suddenly ask which antique she liked.

"Twilight blue lotus bowl, that’s from Ru Kiln, right?" Renee asked.

Jack raised an eyebrow and smiled, "Exactly, good eye."

Renee shot him a white look, "It’s written on the display code card."

Jack curled a strand of her hair around his finger, playing with it, "Do you like it?"

Without a second thought, Renee replied, "I do."

As the saying goes, even piles of wealth can’t compare to a single piece from Ru Kiln.

That’s Skyjade Porcelain, a real antique worth millions or even billions; who wouldn’t like it?

Jack released the strand of hair, letting it fall back down, and then ruffled her hair with his large hand, "Alright, we’ll buy it."

Renee: "..."

No way, just buy it like that? It’s too casual.

Renee hurriedly grabbed Jack’s arm, "No, no, no, don’t buy it. I was just saying, it’s one thing to like something, you don’t have to own it, especially with something so artistic..."

She wanted to say, especially with artistic items like this, for someone who’s not an expert, just looking through the display glass and admiring it is enough, there’s no need to purchase it.

Besides, buying it would be meaningless, plus you’d need to guard against it being stolen or broken; it’s better left in the hands of experts like The Fifth Master, who love to collect antiques.

However, before she could finish, Jack narrowed his eyes and drew close to her face, looking at her imposingly with a cold smile playing at his lips, "If you like it, you must own it, absolutely."

Renee: "..."

Great.

Renee sighed inwardly, realizing she had unintentionally stepped on Jack’s sore spot again.

Walking out of the museum, Renee held a beautifully packaged square box containing the twilight blue Ru Kiln lotus bowl with the silver inlay.

As they crossed the threshold, Jack suddenly blurted, "Be careful not to drop it, or it’ll be eighty million gone."

It would have been better if he hadn’t said anything, but his words made Renee’s hand tremble, and the box almost slipped to the ground.

After stabilizing it, Renee’s heart was racing with fear!

"You!" Renee turned and glared at him, "Jack, are you crazy? Why scare me like that? What if I really dropped it?"

Eighty million, not eighty thousand, or even eight thousand!

Jack, looking indifferent, raised an eyebrow and nonchalantly said, "If it breaks, it breaks." then added, "Haven’t you already broken enough bowls?"

Renee retorted, "Those were just rice bowls, not antiques!"

Jack reminded her, "The bowls you use for eating are bespoke porcelain, a set costs thousands."

Renee: "..."

Jack further reminded, "Not counting those you broke while you were living at Thatcher Manor when you were upset, since moving into The Winslow Estate this year, you’ve broken eight bowls, two plates, and three spoons."

Renee: "..."

This man remembered exactly how many bowls she had broken!

Seeing her dumbfounded look, Jack touched her face, trying not to laugh, "Butler Pierce has noted it all in the accounts."

Once inside the car, Renee gently placed the box on Jack’s lap, "I won’t hold it, it’s such an expensive bowl, you hold it yourself! And..." she added with a blush, "From now on, I’ll eat with stainless steel bowls, I won’t break your fancy bowls anymore!"

Jack returned the box to her hand, "Hold it. If you don’t, I’ll toss it out, and if it breaks, it’s still on you."

"Why?" Renee shouted at him angrily, "If you break it, why should it count against me?"

Jack glanced at her, "Because I bought it for you. It’s your bowl; even if I break it, it’s your fault for not protecting it."

Renee: "..."

What kind of twisted logic is that?

Could he be any more shameless?

Renee could only hold the box carefully in her arms; she was literally hugging a treasure.

Jack drove her to the Kyoro Hotel, parking in the designated underground spot.

Before getting out of the car, Renee asked while holding the box, "What about the bowl?"

Jack, in a casual tone, said, "Put it in the trunk."

Renee: "..."

Jack took the box from her, opened the trunk, and tossed it inside.

Watching this, Renee gasped, "Be gentle!"

Jack smirked, "Besides ’be gentle,’ can’t you say anything else?"

Renee glared at him furiously.

Jack: "In bed, out of bed. Next time, change it to ’give it to me.’"

Blushing, Renee gave him a scornful look, "Shameless!"

Jack wrapped an arm around her waist and led her into the elevator, chuckling softly, "As long as I get you."

Once in the elevator, Renee nudged him with her elbow to create some distance.

With surveillance cameras in the elevator, Jack didn’t flirt further.

Reaching the penthouse suite of the hotel, it was Jack’s private residence for years.

As soon as they entered, Jack pressed her onto the sofa and kissed her.

Renee pushed against his chest, "No, don’t kiss."

Jack nibbled on her lips in a punitive manner, "I can’t do anything, and now I can’t even kiss you?"

Renee rubbed the moisture at the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand and blushed, "Every time you kiss me..." She bit her lip, whispering like a mosquito, "I get even wetter, what if it stains my pants?"

Jack: "..."

Adam’s apple bobbing, Jack’s eyes darkened, and he bent down sharply, passionately kissing her, deeply.

"Mmm..." Renee tried to push his chest with force, but it was no use.

Only when they were both breathless did Jack release her, burying his head in her neck, breathing heavily.

"I really want to..." He restrained himself, biting her collarbone, nibbling her ear, and whispering a crude suggestion.

Renee hit his shoulder, "Get up, I need to go to the bathroom."

Jack picked her up and carried her into the bathroom.

"Get out, Jack, get out!" Renee pushed him with all her strength.

Jack retreated under her strength and, when nearly out the door, braced himself on the doorframe, hooked an arm around her waist, and pecked her lips before leaving.

Renee quickly closed the door, locking it hastily.

She worried that halfway through changing her sanitary pad, Jack might burst in.

Back in the living room, Jack’s phone rang as he dropped it on the sofa. It was Secretary Frank Lowell calling.

Secretary Lowell: "Mr. Yates, Miss Winslow’s grandmother wants a car."

Jack: "Did you agree?"

Secretary Lowell: "No."

Without Jack’s permission, how could a mere secretary dare make decisions?

Jack’s voice was cool and deep, "Don’t promise anything yet."

Secretary Lowell: "By the way, she asked why your phone couldn’t be reached, I told her you were on a business trip abroad, where the signal can’t get through."

Jack: "I’ll call you back later."

After hanging up, Jack leaned against the sofa, one hand in his pocket, the other supporting his chin, fingertip tapping lightly against his cheek.

Should he tell Renee, or not? 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The last time he quietly bought her family a house, she threw a massive fit, and wouldn’t let him touch her for half a month.

If he hides it again this time, will she be even angrier?
