My Players Are So Fierce-Chapter 427
Chapter 427: Rescue in the Raging Fire
Archmage Marin’s worries were not his alone, in fact, even Typal and Uncle Fording who appeared confident on the surface shared the same concerns.
Compared to other player groups who were battle-hardened through war, the Torrent Knights were undoubtedly “recruits” who had just been established.
The only large-scale battle they had participated in was helping Hog fight those skeleton soldiers in Smuggler’s Woods when they first entered the game. Although they had systematic training after Becky joined and received tactical training support from the Winged Cavalry, no one could give a definitive answer about the combat power that the knight order’s players could unleash currently.
If they messed this up, they who appeared “pretentious” in some players’ eyes would become an eternal laughingstock on the forums.
However, the good news was that Maxim and Miriam hadn’t lost their conscience to the point of throwing a unit of recruits alone into the battlefield to test their mettle.
While the Torrent Knights were heading to the battlefield, other player groups who didn’t have additional missions basically all received the task trigger prompt:
【Ding! Special plot event ‘Light Shining in Darkness’ has been triggered!
Event Content: The Plague Clan Gnolls from the Foul Swamp wanted to launch a secret raid on Transia, but the fools took a wrong turn and entered East Prussia’s borders where they are carrying out inhumane massacres and undead conversions. This failed raid has gradually evolved into an unexpected large-scale conflict.
Marshal Loren at Pioneer Fortress has already made timely responses to this, however his reach is limited! Before the fortress’s main cavalry arrives at the battlefield, those innocent people being threatened by undead forces must hold out for 6 hours!
But they can’t do it!
They need help, in death and despair, those residents who once belonged to the Portia Federation yearn for rescue from heroes.
Event Requirements: Join the battlefield and help local resistance hold out until reinforcements arrive.
Failure Conditions: The line of the Goldflower Kingdom Pioneer Army 7th Regiment is breached, the resistance is annihilated, and the Gnoll skeleton army enters Banks City en masse.
Event Rewards: Large amount of Goldflower Kingdom reputation, large amount of Pioneer Army reputation, gratitude from locals.
Note!
This event is optional, refusing will not affect reputation already earned.】
“?”
When she saw this random event trigger prompt, Little Ashina who was cleaning her gun had a big question mark pop up above her head. She turned to look at Lady Aqua beside her and complained:
“This is the first time I’ve seen a quest with such poor rewards, just reputation and gratitude. Isn’t that basically no reward at all?”
“No, it’s not that simple,” said Lady Aqua.
Lady Aqua squinted her eyes examining the content of this task trigger. After brief consideration, she played with her long hair and said:
“This is a random event triggered during the ‘100-Day Grand Construction’ operation, in other words, how this event plays out will affect the final result of the main event.
On the surface it seems like those who save the Goldflower Kingdom won’t get any substantial gains, but if you look at the clues buried between the lines by the dev team you can understand.
East Prussia was originally Portia Federation territory, theoretically speaking those residents were all once compatriots of the Transians, which means legally speaking, if they ‘voluntarily’ migrate to Transia, even Marshal Loren would have no reason to stop them.
In other words, this event can still serve as a component for acquiring manpower in the ‘census’.
If managed well, emptying out that disaster area’s population all at once wouldn’t be a problem.
Ha, having no rewards is the biggest reward!
If it only gave a few pieces of equipment or some gold coins, that would indicate this random event is useless.”
Saying this, Lady Aqua stood up, grabbed her cool scythe from beside her, and said to Little Ashina who now understood:
“Immediately call everyone else back, we’ll go participate over there, but we need to agree on the assistance compensation with Typal and Uncle Fording beforehand, they need to share some of the manpower they gain with us!
I estimate this may be one of the few chances for ‘legitimate’ privateering in the grand census operation.
Miss this village and you’ll miss this store.”
“I can’t accept it, how is your brain just so good at this stuff,” Little Ashina complained while efficiently loading her gun.
“My intelligence score on paper isn’t that different from yours.”
“I’ve eaten ten more years of rice than you, you little dummy,” Lady Aqua said with a wink.
“When you reach my age you’ll definitely be much smarter than me. Now be good and go call everyone, we need to head out quickly, if we’re late we won’t catch the hot meal.”
“Okay.”
Little Ashina got up flapping her wings, but before leaving she asked curiously:
“MoeHaha hasn’t logged in for several days now, I hope nothing happened to her? I asked Sister Pomegranate but she wouldn’t tell me, just said we’d see MoeHaha again in a few days. That girl enticed me to help her dismantle the Computation Bead with her, which ended up alerting Governor Murphy and really scared me.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Lady Aqua said casually regarding this question.
“Since her account hasn’t been deleted it means the problem isn’t serious, she probably just got held up by something in real life. That girl is truly reckless.
But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
There aren’t many female players in the game currently, we need to be able to trust each other in order to help each other.
After this incident, MoeHaha can probably truly become one of us. In the current situation where we can’t contact Sister Concrete, we do indeed need a capable mind to help us with some long-term and complex thinking.
I believe Little Pomegranate will resolve these issues, so we just need to give the two of them some time.”
She patted Little Ashina’s shoulder and head, saying with a smile:
“Of course, leave these troublesome issues to me to consider, you just need to enjoy the happiness and satisfaction this game brings you. But speaking of which, you seem to keep sneaking off to Blood Vulture Halls these past few days, did you trigger some hidden quest or make a new friend?”
“It’s someone really amazing,” Little Ashina said waving her fists.
“But I can’t introduce him to you all yet, after all his situation is rather special. Let’s not talk about this for now, let’s complete tonight’s random event first.”
While the girls’ team was preparing to set out, the student party who had been active near Smuggler’s Woods recently reacted even faster.
Led by Leading Pigeon, they flew in a cool formation low over the woods, speeding towards where the Gnoll warlocks were wreaking havoc. However, tonight’s student party operation was missing Niuniu this super tank, so Khaki and Shrimp Catcher had to temporarily fill in.
These two guys both had Shield Guardian as secondary professions. Although their strength was inferior to Niuniu, standing in as defenders on the battlefield wasn’t a big problem.
The student party had been tracking the clues about the Gnolls in the swamp all along. Now that these sneaky fellows had finally appeared, they were even more unwilling to give up this hard-won lead.
But during the flight, what they discussed most wasn’t how to attack those Gnolls or take advantage of this opportunity to abduct a group of locals. Instead, a certain internal matter of theirs was put on the discussion agenda.
“Damn! Niuniu’s soul has been captured by Amber, he hasn’t played with us these past few days, following his paper wife Amber and some witch hunters into the swamp and staying there for days,” complained Miaomiao Shark who was showing off his “super agility” special technique by doing a mid-air spin while flying.
“Those who know say he received a reconnaissance mission, those who don’t might think he ran off to date Amber.”
“Tch, how do you know they’re not dating?” Path of Mud and Oil said loudly.
“Maybe Lady Amber is unconventional and likes to romance in these weird places? But you’re right.
Niuniu has completely dropped the act now, laid his cards on the table.
Before when we asked him about this in the dorm he would still get shy, now he just ignores it completely, doesn’t care what happens like a dead pig that’s not afraid of boiling water, makes people not even want to tease him anymore.
Do you think Niuniu is the first player to date a paper wife?”
“First? NONONO, he’s definitely not the first,” said Ah Yuen with a strange smile, sharing some gossip he heard from Bricklayer a few days ago.
After hearing Ah Yuen talk about Grayman and the Palen sisters, these “budding” student party members all listened with smiles blooming on their faces, letting out long howls while flying at high speed.
“And there’s that improper old Joy Stick!” said Electronic Snail, coming over to join in.
“I occasionally saw scenes of him interacting with his blood descendant before. Joy Stick says with his mouth that Lady Melia only brings him trouble, but actually he’s taken Melia wandering the streets of the military camp or Crimson Citadel at night more than once.
Since Lady Melia’s eyes aren’t very good, right?
I’ve seen Joy Stick use a guide cane to lead her. Tsk tsk, that old pure single dog was too shy to hold her hand.
No wonder he’s been single for so long.
Can only say the paper wives in this ghost game are truly too captivating. Look at the unique character models of these girls, can’t blame our Niuniu for having weak willpower.
Using this kind of thing to test cadres, who can resist? Who wouldn’t be dazzled?”
“Tch, women!” exclaimed Invincible Tyrannosaurus Cheche, hearing the people beside him gossiping about these things. He reproached rather impatiently:
“Women will only affect my spell casting speed. These weak-willed fellows actually get immersed in the gentle paradise of electronic wives. Peh, truly no prospects! Indeed only super macho men like Cheche with hearts cold as iron can reach the spirit energy peak!”
“Yes yes yes, we know you don’t like normal people,” said Gugu Chicken with a bad smile, hooking his arm around Cheche’s shoulders.
“Others say they like furries just for fun, only you little guy are serious about it. Sigh, not to criticize you, but your fetish is too crooked, what are you going to do in real life in the future? Why not apply to Brother Alpha, ask the dev team to design a bunny girl for you?”
“Only dogs want wives from the dev team!” Cheche screamed stubbornly.
“I don’t want that at all, I want to become the most powerful vampire spirit mage in this world! Then I’ll create my own bunny girl, make one myself, hmph hmph. You good-for-nothing fellows cannot understand my grand aspirations.
Cheche doesn’t need a girlfriend, Cheche makes his own girlfriend!”
“Awesome!”
“666!”
“Brother Cheche make one for me too!”
“One each! No, ten each!”
The surrounding friends immediately laughed and started making a ruckus, and this joyful atmosphere continued until they arrived first at the East Prussia border at high flight speed.
“Holy crap!”
Miaomiao Shark, who had the highest perception and best eyesight, made an emergency stop in mid-air, hovering to gaze at that burning land ahead. He exclaimed:
“What did those Gnolls do here? This fire is too extreme! Did they set the earth itself on fire?”
“Pitiful hunter with no knowledge, this is when Cheche needs to explain spirit energy mysteries to you,” said Invincible Tyrannosaurus Cheche, hovering beside Miaomiao Shark and stroking his chin quite professionally.
“One look and you can tell this was caused by skyfire meteors striking down. I learned about this unique earth-type spirit energy formation from the young lady.
Although its destructive power and mental impact are inferior to the dimensional meteor spell we’ve seen, this thing’s advantage is that it’s simple and easy to use, belonging to the type with the lowest entry barrier among the ‘meteor system’ spells.
However, fire storms triggered by skyfire meteor strikes of this scale are indeed rare. Someone must have released large-scale flame strike spells. Looks like the Gnoll warlocks who came over this time won’t be easy to deal with, they’re definitely all true elites. Combined with the skeleton armies under their command, this battle won’t be easy.”
“Even if it was easy we wouldn’t need to step in! Right?” Leading Pigeon sneered, drawing the crimson staff from his back. He shouted:
“Spirit mages follow me, let’s extinguish this fire storm first. Non-spirit users start free hunting around the perimeter. We’ve all dealt with skeleton armies before, we all know their weaknesses! Don’t waste time fighting those skeleton frames, find their controllers and execute precise decapitation.
Miaomiao Shark, send out your hyenas to search for survivors.
We need to fight and save people, that’s called killing two birds with one stone!”
“Leading Pigeon, Typal sent a message, they’re already on the way, requesting us to deliver a message to the Goldflower soldiers defending the line in place of the reinforcements,” Electronic Snail came over to say.
“Typal wants those soldiers to prepare for an assault, to launch a coordinated strike with the main Torrent Knights force when they arrive. Also, Uncle Fording hopes we can find the Gnoll warlocks’ summoning ritual site. We must interrupt the spread of the skeleton army’s scale, can’t let the Gnoll warlocks summon more undead.
Once this snowball starts rolling it’ll be very hard to handle.”
“Easy for you to say!” cursed Leading Pigeon.
“We just arrived here ourselves, where are we supposed to find those Gnolls’ secret summoning locations? Other than following Shrimp Catcher here to catch people to complete tasks last time, this is my first time in this ghost place too, okay?”
“Over here! Hey, vampire flying in the sky, come this way! Hey, see me? I’m here! Quick, come!”
Just then, chaotic shouts from below made Miaomiao Shark with the strongest perception look down. He was surprised to find a sneaky Gnoll hunter hiding in the shadows below.
It was waving its claws at the sky with a shifty expression, that fearless posture clearly came from the Blood Claw Clan. Probably only the Gnolls from Smuggler’s Woods would have such a unique bearing across the entire continent.
“Hog’s people?” exclaimed Miaomiao Shark.
“How is that guy here too? I’m starting to feel tonight’s matter isn’t right, could this be manipulated by Transia officials behind the scenes?”
“You go down and ask first. Everyone else move out, quick!”
With Leading Pigeon’s command, the crowd scattered.
Under Gugu Chicken’s cover, Ah Yuen swiftly crossed over the scorching and chaotic sky and battlefield below. With an elegant death drop posture he rapidly descended, finally landing steadily behind the Goldflower Kingdom’s battle line.
This place had already been breached once by the skeleton army. Broken corpses and limbs along with burned skeleton remains were everywhere, clearly showing the local guard soldiers had launched an effective counter-charge and taken back the position.
When Ah Yuen landed, the surrounding exhausted soldiers all picked up their weapons, with some cursing about damn vampires.
But Ah Yuen didn’t care about their reaction at all.
Gripping the hilt of his clan wing blade at his waist, he shouted:
“Get your commander out here! I come representing Blood Vulture Clan supporters and Transia’s warriors to speak with him! We’ve already received Colonel Frayzer’s authorization.
Damn it!
Where is your commander?
Did he run? Wasn’t the Pioneer Army said to have strict military discipline?”
“You’re stepping on our commander’s left leg.”
A deep voice sounded from behind the soldiers, then a blood-covered strongman with bandages wrapped around his head walked out from the collapsed bunker carrying a war hammer.
It was clear this guy was already very tired, with wounds all over his body, but the anger and fighting spirit in his eyes made Ah Yuen realize this was a tough character.
“Uh, sorry, I didn’t mean to step on him, mainly because it’s too broken up,” said Ah Yuen.
The players had great respect for such true warriors, so Ah Yuen’s tone softened and he took a step back in a dignified manner to avoid continuing to step on the remains of this defensive line’s commander and provoking hostility from the other side.
He coughed once and said under the other’s gaze:
“Support from Transia will arrive soon. Our knights request you prepare for a counter-attack, to join us in annihilating the border-crossing Gnoll warlocks and their skeleton army on the battlefield.
However, I guess our side didn’t anticipate your casualties would be this severe, so how many people do you still have who can take the field?”
Faced with Ah Yuen’s inquiry, the Pioneer Army Second Lieutenant before him rudely spat a bloody glob of saliva by his feet. He leaned on his war hammer and shouted behind him, and one by one exhausted warriors emerged from their hiding places.
“We originally had 540 people, now we have 130 left,” the Second Lieutenant said in a low voice.
“But don’t worry, we’ll appear on the battlefield on time.”
