Chapter 55: Chapter 55

And there it was.

Salty.

It was nothing other than.

Blood

Dan immediately froze. The blood was still fresh, and the mushy meat was still kind of warm. which means the kill wasn’t that long ago. So, the predator was still lurking around within the shadows.

The shadow beneath Dan’s feet rippled as he took hold of Soul Reaper. His eyes then began to glow golden as he had activated spirit sight. His eyes darted everywhere within the mountain.

The place seemed to resemble an ancient monument that had various statues and drawings. On the walls of the place, mushrooms and moss could be seen to have growing on them.

But the drawings and the moss weren’t the only things that decorated this ancient place, but also the claw marks that could be seen every now and then on the walls.

Part of the walls also had blood on them. While some of it seemed to have dried up. Some parts of the wall seem to still be dripping. Dan watched as the blood streamed and dripped down into a mini pool.

And within the blood, Dan saw what seemed to be mangled flesh.

"Hisss"

A sound spread within this enclosed and ancient place. Dan moved closer to Nate to make sure he protects him.

And then Dan heard something move within the shadows. His body immediately froze.

The hair on his body began rising as his golden eyes darted from one corner of the place to another.

"What is it?" Nate whispered in the dark as he heard Dan had stopped moving toward him.

"Be quiet," Dan whispered back.

An enormous pressure then started coming from Nate’s direction. It felt so cold and deadly. His sweat pores started to resonate with the new aura. Dan began to drip where he stood, though there was enough air within the room they were in.

This can’t be coming from Nate, right?

And then the answer to his question was answered. Red glowing eyes began to emerge behind Nate. A figure began to tower over Nate. Dan’s spirit sight allowed him to see the figure’s outline. The being was quite scaly. It kind of glistened when Dan looked at them. The being got closer to Nate, from its lips something dripped, and something hung from its mouth.

Instead of hands, the creature had claws. They, too looked quite moist and dripped with something.

"Hissss," a sound came from the gigantic creature’s lips.

What is that?

Dan’s body froze, and he dared not move. His grip on Soul Reaper started loosening. His innards started turning.

Why this much pressure?

The creature was now standing directly behind Nate. From its lips, the thick liquid dripped onto Nate’s armor.

Please don’t move

Dan prayed within his heart as he stared intently at Nate. The liquid landed lightly onto his armor, and Nate felt nothing.

The thick liquid now hung over Nate’s head, dangling over it.

Finally, it dropped.

The thick liquid fell from the being’s lips and landed onto Nate’s hair.

A confused expression started brewing on Nate’s face.

Oh no

Nate raised his hands to touch where the liquid had landed. He now looked up to see where it had come from.

As Nate did so, the being raised its claws high up above its head, ready to swipe down.

Nate had no idea what was going on.

Dan tightened his grip on Soul Reaper as he rushed toward Nate and the being.

The being’s claws were almost upon Nate when Dan’s blade came in between and clashed with the being.

Clang!!!

A sound echoed through the ancient place.

A kind of vibration spread through Dan’s hand and ran up his arms. His grip on Soul Reaper is loosening.

The being stopped moving, and Dan could see that it had a shocked expression on its face.

But there was no time to wonder why the being was stunned. Dan immediately grabbed Nate and yanked him away.

Dan pulled Nate as they ran through the ancient place. As they ran through the ancient place, Dan could see clearly and navigate through the dark.

But all this seemed to be hard for Nate as he tripped almost everywhere they passed. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"I would need you to hold on and stay close," Dan said as he turned through a corner.

"We need to get out of here," he said.

"Hissss," the sound echoed behind them.

I need to find the way out of this place. But I don’t know which way to go, and I can’t go back.

Taking another turn, Dan kept running with Nate with no sense of direction.

This was going on for a while till Nate abruptly stopped.

"Dan, I don’t think I can anymore," Nate said as he tried to catch his breath.

Nate was breathing heavily, his chest rising, his mouth wide open as he tried to catch his breath.

"Noo, we can’t stop now. We have to go"

"I can’t," Nate said. His voice broke, and his face looked drained. His eyes started welling with tears.

"I don’t want to die." Nate finally broke tears started flowing freely from his face.

Dan stood there. His expression was blank.

"This isn’t the time to give up," Dan said.

His ears then picked up the sound of something drawing itself on the floor. It was heading towards them with so much speed.

Dan now looked at Nate.

I have come too far to die here.

Dan turned back to look at where the being was coming from.

Am I ready to die for someone else? Is he worth it? He barely knew me.

Dan looked back at where the being was coming from. His gaze then landed back on Nate. The young, helpless demigod. Like a broken bird, he couldn’t escape but was at the mercy of its predators.

As Dan looked at Nate, tears streamed down the young demigod’s face.

I can’t leave him like this, can I?

And the sound behind them became louder.

Dan’s expression then turned dark.
