My Kitsune System-Chapter 52: The Nogitsune
"What did you say?" Dan asked as he looked at Nate.
"The Nogitsune is within the camp"
Boom!!!
Dan’s heart crashed against his rib cage.
"You mean the Kitsune, that is the cause of this war?"
"Yes," young Nate spoke as his eyes darted around the tent to make sure they were not being heard.
The Nogitsune? It seems to be a kitsune that chooses a different path. It was part of the evolution paths I could choose from. And from the system said such a kitsune is cut off from the heavens and is now rogue.
Dan was in deep thought.
"What can you tell me about the Nogitsune?" Dan asked.
Nate, hearing Dan’s question, immediately froze. His gaze fixed on Dan, not daring to even blink.
He doesn’t trust me? He actually has every reason not to.
"I am not here to hurt you, Nate," Dan said as he started getting out of his bed and headed toward where Nate was sitting.
Squatting before the little demigod, Dan looked into Nate’s eyes.
Dan reached out to hold on to Nate’s hands. But Nate immediately pulled back. Dan could see that Nate was visibly shaken.
"It’s alright. I won’t hurt you. I promise to protect you." Dan said as he looked into Nate’s eyes, as they shook. Reminding him of his younger self. When he had no one to protect him. When he was in trouble, no one came running to save him.
But now things could be different. He had the powers, and abilities to protect himself, and those he cares about. Now he could actually be there for someone.
Dan reached out to the shaking demigod. Just like him, the demigod was dying from using his powers.
Dan pulled Nate close into his embrace. His hands were going through Nate’s hair as he held him close.
"I’ll protect you... I’ll keep you safe."
Dan then pulled back as he looked at Nate. The little demigod’s eyes still shook. They were getting kind of moist.
I’ll protect him at all costs
Dan now wore a smile on his face as he stared into the young demigod’s eyes.
"So, tell me what you know about the Nogitsune?"
Nate used the back of his hand to wipe the growing tears within his eyes. He then adorned a stern face as he looked at Dan.
"Well, much isn’t really known about the nogitsune. Just that he wants to bring down the reign of the gods."
Bring down the reign of the gods?
"And why does he want to do that?" Dan asked.
"I was never really told that..." Nate said as he shied away from Dan’s gaze.
"But I did hear the older demigods talking, though."
"Okay, and what did they say?"
"Well, it’s more like rumours."
Rumours? Well, it wouldn’t hurt to listen to some rumours. They do have some truths to them.
"And what do these rumours say?"
"The short version is that... It’s out for revenge."
"Revenge? against the gods? Why?" Dan’s face looked quite puzzled.
"There’s a story about it actually. It is also part of the rumours."
"A story?"
"Yes, a story. The story was about a good Zenko who was kind-hearted and loving. It always obeyed the orders of the gods and carried out tasks asked of it by the goddess." Nate told Dan.
"Okay? If it was a good Zenko, then what brought about a change? Why did it go rogue? Why want to bring down the fall of the gods?"
"It’s all rumours and not really true."
"It doesn’t matter. Just tell me the rumours," Dan said with a smile.
"So, the Zenko broke a rule."
"Broke a rule? Which rule was that?" Dan asked as his gaze burned a hole into Nate’s eyes.
"Not to fall in love"
"What?" Dan’s eyes widened.
"Yes, at that time, a rule was made, all divine beings were not to procreate or have personal relationships with humans. But the Zenko broke the rule."
"Okay? How exactly did it do that?"
"According to the rumours, it fell in love with a human girl and started a family with her. Disregarding all its divine duties, it decided to stay with the one it loved."
"So, the world is at war because another being fell in love?" Dan spoke.
And then he realised he was talking to a little demigod, who didn’t really know much about love.
"Ohh, sorry about that," Dan felt really weird and wished the ground swallowed him whole.
Dan then got up and headed back to bed.
Nate headed for the door.
"Hey Dan?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think you will ever fight for love?" Nate asked.
"Fight for love?" Dan kept silent for a little while before answering again.
"Nah, I highly doubt that," Dan said to Nate, who later left the tent.
Fight for love? why? Dan chuckled at the thoughts.
And then a face resurfaced within his mind. The ever-flowing hair. The smile on her face made his heart skip a beat.
His chest began hurting more and more with every passing second.
Maybe I may actually fight for love?
Dan asked himself continuously as he drifted into slumber.
**** A secluded part of the demigod camp.
The hot air burned and scorched the skin of the beings around. It moved slowly across the camp. The place was a bit far away from the camp. Sitting there was no other than Renjiro, as he sat as if waiting for something.
Three other demigods walked towards where he sat. And continuously checked around as they approached him.
As they reached where Renjiro sat. They all went down on their knees. With their hands across their chest.
One of the demigods then spoke.
"May we ask why you have summoned us?"
Renjiro was quiet before him was a shikiban. He looked at it intently. His Gaze began to grow dark. Again, he performed another divination, but the result came out the same.
And finally he looked up at the three demigods.
"I see darkness and destruction heading toward us"
