Chapter 51: New Skills

Dan’s mind ran laps on which path he was to choose.

And then Dan chose a path.

The system then sent a notification to Dan.

Evolution beginning.

Dan’s bones began to break and realign themselves. His muscles stretched themselves. At some point, they got torn, and his blood vessels broke. An excruciating and burning pain enveloped his body.

But as soon as they were torn, they also got amended. This went on for a while before it finally stopped.

His skin was now kind of lighter and more tender than it was before. All his former scars and blemishes got erased. His hair color also began to change, from being partly white to completely white.

Dan’s stat had now also changed. It was now currently-

Name: Dan Othniel

Title: The Goddess Zenko

Tail Level: 3/9

[Attributes]

- Strength: 101

- Speed: 108

Dan has now gotten a major boost to his stats. He also acquired new skills.

Transformation skill unlocked: the user can now transform into a full kitsune. With his skills and abilities, he gets a limited time boost.

Eyes of truth: Resistance to manipulation and illusions of the lower rank.

He still remained unconscious for a while before he finally he started gaining back his consciousness. As the sun continued to scorch his skin he finally woke up.

He noticed he was in a tent and not in the dark fortress anymore. He seemed to have been laid on a bed and covered in sheets.

As he looked at his body he noticed he had no scars neither did his body ache at all.

[System Notification]

The host’s life essence is critically low.

Current Life Essence: 30%

This must be due to using that skill. Dan said to himself as he remembered the impact of the skill he had used.

How the demon was turned into dust with nothing remaining, while in turn his life force was drained. Coupled with the evolution he had, he was now low on life essence and any mistake now may lead to his death.

Taking a deep breath, Dan sighed as he stayed motionless. The hot air blew into his room. He could feel the heat carried by the air biting against his cheeks and at some point, it felt like a sting.

"This will soon be over," he spoke to himself.

"Do you really think so?" a voice said in the background.

Opening his eyes, Dan saw no one other than Sigrid as she sat at the corner of the room. But she wasn’t the only one who was there. Beside her was the small demigod that had almost gotten Dan killed when he first came here.

It was no other than little Nate.

Dan looked at them both as he adjusted himself to face them. But as he did so, Sigrid got up and started heading out of the tent. She then stopped at the entrance to the tent.

You seem to have gotten stronger." She said as she turned to look at him.

"But compared to the others, you are still too weak. And among those who are stronger than you, some want you dead," she said.

But the room was filled with silence. Dan’s composure was unshaken. Her eyebrows began to rise as she looked at him.

Dan then sighed before he spoke.

"This isn’t the first time someone has wanted me dead. So this isn’t a surprise. They are free to try," he said as he tried to force a smile.

A little smile then began to grow on Sigrid’s face.

"I hope you will be this brave when death comes knocking." She said before she finally left the tent with Dan and Nate in it.

Dan now turned to look at Nate, who was now still far away from the place Dan lay.

"So tell me what has been going on?"

Nate now turned to look to his sides to be sure he was the one being spoken to. Before he finally pointed to himself.

"Yes, you. I would like you to tell me what has been going on."

But Nate said nothing, as he bowed his head down, not uttering a word.

"Come on now. We are on the same side now. I almost got killed fighting for the demigods, at least I should know what they are planning," Dan spoke as he looked towards Dan, who still had his head bowed down.

"Nate?" Dan called out to the little demigod, who sat across where he lay.

The room was riddled with silence before Nate finally spoke.

"Everyone is tense"

"Tensed?"

"Why?" Dan asked as his eyes widened.

We have brought down the demonic fortress in the region and even killed the higher demon. So what could be making them tense?

Dan was really confused at this point, his gaze was now fixed on the little demigod for information. He needed to know what was going on so he could make his next move and what to do.

"Nate? What is making them tense?" Dan called out to Nate.

"It is-" Nate spoke.

"It is-"

"It is what?" Dan’s heart began to beat faster.

"It is the Nogitsune," Nate said.

"Okay, what about it?" Dan asked with a raised eyebrow.

Nate kept quiet for a while. His face grew pale, like he had been drained of all blood. From his forehead, beads of sweat began to roll down his face. His hands twitched every now and then.

His eyes darted from one end of the room to another as if in search of something.

After finally getting a hold of himself.

Nate swallowed hard before looking Dan in the eyes.

"It walks amongst us."

Immediately, the color on Dan’s face was drained. His heart began to beat hard against his chest. It was as though something had gripped Dan. Beads of sweat began rolling down his forehead.

"What did you say?" Dan asked as he looked at Nate.

"The Nogitsune is within the camp"

Boom!!!

Dan’s heart crashed against his rib cage
