My Kitsune System-Chapter 48
The shadows swirled, and Soul Reaper rose from the darkness. Dan grabbed onto the handle of the blade. Taking on a defensive stance.
"I thought you would understand. But it seems I was greatly mistaken."
The demon pulled out a great sword. The sword was so big that when it was placed on the floor, it created a crater on the floor.
It seems quite heavy
But before Dan could complete that train of thought. The demon had already moved toward him with great speed. It was too fast for Dan to evade the crushing blow the demon had thrown out.
All Dan could do was put his hands before him to block the attack.
Crack!!!
The sound of broken bones could be heard.
A searing pain spread through Dan’s hand. It immediately turned numb so that he could really feel anything.
His body was also thrown back against a wall. His body created a crater on the wall. He couldn’t still move when the demon moved again, coming to slash him down.
He immediately began to activate his skills when he saw a being with two scythes block the attack of the demon.
It was none other than Zuberi.
Dan watched as the two of them were in a deadlock.
Zuberi then pushed back from the demon to create a bit of space between them. He followed up with an attack from his Khopesh. A slash to the demons head and another to its neck.
The demon used its to protect its head, and the great sword was used to change the trajectory of the Khopesh. Moving with the flow, Zuberi tilted and sent a kick to the demon and sending it a few metres back.
Zuberi’s Khodesh began emitting a faint glow. Tiny inscriptions could be seen on them.
He then began rushing towards the demon. As he got close, he jumped into the hair. His body was spinning while he was in the air, and his twin blades spun with him as he came down crashing on the demon.
The demon raised his guard up and was able to block one, two, three of Zuberi’s attacks before he finally moved out of the way, leaving Zuberi to land. But instead of Zuberi landing on the floor below, he instead dissolved into the darkness below.
The demon was now the only one left in the middle of the courtyard that was apart from Dan, too, who was still recovering from his exchange with the demon.
And then there was a ripple from the nearby wall of the courtyard. The darkness moved, and out of it came a very fast object. It was so fast that the demon had no time to react to it.
The object was so swift that when it passed the demon, it drew blood from the demon’s face. Before the object flew into the darkness again, never to be seen again.
But that was only the beginning. More and more attacks came from the darkness, from above and below. All were of Zuberi’s Khopesh, which were moving too fast for Dan’s eyes to even keep up.
Tiny cuts and slashes began showing up on the demon’s body. Blood began to stream down the demon’s body.
The demon then pierced its blade into the ground.
"Echoes of the forgotten," the demon said.
As it did, a kind of aura was released unto the courtyard. Whispers began to spread all around the courtyard.
The voices were of all kinds, those of mothers and their children. Of pain and regret. The whole courtyard reeked of regret.
The voices were so loud that Dan could literally see the souls that flew around. All bidding him to come, to let go of life as it had no use. They soaked his soul up, and the more he gave in and listened to them, the more he bled from his nose and eyes.
A mind attack
Dan knew it was a mind attack, but he also knew that there was nothing he could do about it. He was not strong enough to break the compulsion of such a strong attack.
And from the darkness, Zuberi was vomited. His body fell and landed in the middle of the courtyard.
He also seemed to be having a hard time stopping the mind attack. He lay on the floor, bleeding from his eyes and nose, though not as much. The demon started walking over to him.
It held its great sword in its hand, drawing it on the floor as it approached the bleeding body of Zuberi.
He then stood in front of Zuberi’s body. Its great sword raised up and ready to strike down on Zuberi.
****Fortress: beyond the gates
The walls of the great fortress had fallen down. The demigods now marched on the bodies of the allies and enemies alike as they entered the fortress. Burnt debris was all around the demigods as they walked in. The light of the scorching finally hit the inner part of the fortress.
The smell of blood and burnt meat was the fragrance that graced the battlefield. Slowly, the demigods marched in, but now they were surrounded by the demons. The demons held in their hands spears and arrows, ready to rain them down on the demigods.
With just one signal, the spears and arrows were released on the demigods. The spears and arrows were so fast that they whizzed through the air. They cut down a lot of demigods around.. Like dominoes, they began dropping one by one.
A spear flew in the air and landed, finding its way deep into Sigrid’s shoulder. It pierced through her flesh and pierced her bone and came out through the other side.
This made her immediately halt her movement. Another arrow launched itself towards her. It was coming so fast that she had no time to move or evade it.
The arrow streamed through the air, coming for her right eye.
It had already passed the range for her to use her axe to block it. It was about to go through her eyes when a fiery fist stretched and caught it. Burning the arrow to a crisp.
Baozhai pulled the spear from Sigrid’s shoulder and threw it into a demon. Pinning the demon into the wall.
"Renjiro" Baozhai called out.
On the other side of the field, Renjiro was evading the spears and arrows fluidly with neither any scratch or injury. But he also seemed to be sweating profusely. His face also held a pained expression.
Having heard his name being called by Baozhai. He began approaching Baozhai with caution, making sure he was not caught by any arrow.
The three were now together, with Renjiro watching their backs as Baozhai tended to the wounds of Sigrid.
"What are our chances of getting out of this alive?" Baozhai spoke.
But the air around them was filled with silence. Baozhai now turned to look at Renjiro.
"How bad is it?"
Renjiro just shook his head.
Baozhai’s expression then turned dark.
"How many people did we lose?"
"Not too many that can’t be replaced," Renjiro said, but his face was still dark.
"But that isn’t the bad news, is it? So, who did we lose?"
