Chapter 46: Chapter 46

So, that must be the way out... I think," Dan said as he stared at the south of the fortress.

"You are twenty minutes late." Dan heard a voice say.

****Outside the fortress

Smoke drifted outside the fortress. There was a lot of debris around. Ashes rose in the air. The demigods and demons found it very hard to see, as tiny particles got into their eyes.

The demigods were arranged in ranks and stood before the great fortress. Leading the ranks of the demigods was Baozhai.

His golden armour glistened in the sun. It reflected the light of the sun and sometimes even blinded the other demigods within his ranks. Beside him was Renjiro, and at his other hand was Sigrid.

Behind her were the Norse demigods, who as usual, seemed to be quite odd and different from the rest due to their thick fur coats.

Baozhai then called another demigod to come closer.

"Send a message to Zuberi. He is to infiltrate the fortress and gather as much information as he can before it’s burnt to a crisp."

The demigod nodded and headed to the light brown skinned demigod. The demigod relayed the message to Zuberi, who then nodded before dissolving into the crowd of demigods, never to be seen again.

Baozhai then walked a bit more to the front of the demigod army. Renjiro and Sigrid then followed suit.

The divine energy within Baozhai started pulsating and growing at a rapid speed.

"We are to bring down this fortress at all costs and make sure there’s no living being by the time reinforcement comes. The higher demon is mine." Baozhai spoke.

"What about the fox?" Renjiro asked.

"He is not to be killed, at least not yet."

"What do we need him for?" Renjiro asked.

Baozhai didn’t answer immediately but turned to look at Sigrid.

"What do you think about him, Sigrid?"

She turned to look at Baozhai. Her face was expressionless. She then clutched her fists before letting out a breath.

"He can be controlled, I don’t know for how long, though. But I don’t think he’s in league with the other kitsune, though," she said.

"I, see," Baozhai pondered before turning to look at Renjiro.

"We’ll keep him around for a while, as long as he proves to be an ally, but if he is ever to be caught in league, he should be killed on the spot."

"Also, Renjiro, tell Zuberi to remove the kitsune from the board if he is not on our side."

As Baozhai had finished talking, Renjiro placed his hands on his head.

"It’s done," Renjiro said.

With those words, Baozhai’s aura exploded across the field. It was followed by that of Sigrid, Renjiro, and then every other demigod on the field.

Pulling out his weapon, Baozhai started jogging, which then turned into a sprint as he headed for the fortress.

****Fortress courtyard

Dan’s body became rigid as he heard those words.

Who could have been waiting for me to come? And the person had expected me to come earlier, meaning he knew I would escape and the time I would escape.

Dan began to turn slowly to face the voice that had spoken to him. As he did, he saw a being with two horns on its head. It had red eyes.

The being looked quite calm and wasn’t as desperate or rushing towards Dan. To probably remove Dan’s head from his shoulders like the other horned beings within the fortress wanted to do.

Instead, it was seated around a pavement around the stage within the courtyard.

It then rose up when it saw Dan. It started walking towards Dan.

This was a high-tier demon that was walking towards him. The usual aura exuded from such a being would normally make him rattled. His sweat glands would have been overworked. His bowels dancing round, but all that didn’t happen.

Though he did feel a bit pressed by the demon’s pressure, it wasn’t as massive as he had expected. He could still breathe easily.

Am I not shaking because I met a more powerful being?

Dan thought as he watched the being approach.

The being stood before Dan. His breath fell on Dan, but he never got the expression it had expected to see. At most, it was sure Dan was as strong as a mid-tier demon and nothing more. So, Dan not shaking before it brought it a kind of concern.

"Who are you?" it asked Dan.

Now that its pressure isn’t affecting me much, does that mean it would be easier to cut off its head now? And complete the missions?

Dan thought as he looked at the demon’s armor and its neck area.

Its neck looks kind of tough, though. Maybe if I was able to hack it a few times, it would come off. But I would really need it to be incapacitated. How do I do that, though?

The demon had then noticed Dan had been looking at it oddly. With Dan’s bloodlust leaking out every once in a while.

A smile began to grow on the demon’s face.

"I would really love to see you try, though."

"What?" Dan snapped out of his thoughts.

"Don’t play dumb with me. I could feel your bloodlust leaking. It was weak, but it was still noticeable. So, tell me how you planned to do it, though?"

Dan was perplexed as he stared at the demon.

Could it tell I wanted to kill it? Dan’s eyes widened.

Now, beads of sweat began forming on Dan’s forehead.

A sinister smile began growing on the face of the demon. Its canine showed under the dimly lit courtyard.

"You have potential, you know? I’ve heard about you... and we have been expecting you.

Dan’s heart pounded heavily in his chest. Knocking into his ribs.

What does he mean he has heard a lot about me? Am I that well known?

"Come join us. We would need one like you within our ranks," the demon said as it stretched its hand towards Dan.

Dan looked at its hand.

A bit in the corner of the courtyard. From the shadows emerged none other than Zuberi. He saw the demon as it stretched its hand to Dan.

Zuberi then pulled out its scythes, ready to pounce.
