My Kitsune System-Chapter 40: At the Gates
Elise, I will kill them all... every last one of them.
With those words echoing in his heart, he turned and started heading towards the impenetrable fortress.
Being dwarfed by the mighty fortress, Dan just stood before it. The fortress’s black walls looked very high.
Sigrid’s words echoed in his heart. There was no turning back now. Dan made peace with that fact as he began checking out the walls.
Now how to get in?
Dan stood before the walls for close to a minute. He started pacing about. He stuck close to the walls. So that he would not be spotted by the archers.
He searched for blind spots round the wall but he found none. It seemed the fortress was made to withstand any form of attack. Especially those of ground forces. The walls were to thick for one to pierce blades into it and climb up.
The only way was to attack from above which is the same as suicide. Dropping from above into a fortress of demons. Was nothing sort of suicide.
"Let’s do it the old-fashioned way," he said as he turned to look at Nate and Sigrid.
Far away from the fortress, under the cover of some rocks, Nate and Sigrid watched as Dan began pacing up and down the fortress.
Nate turned to look at Sigrid. His face held a dark expression. His gaze moved from her face to the axe that she had held in incase Dan decides to rebel. But then it may have another purpose. You can never know when it comes to Sigrid. Nate thought.
Nate then swallowed hard.
"Hey Sigrid"
"What is it?" came her reply with out turning nor sparing Nate any glance.
"Don’t you think we should help him?" Nate said.
Sigrid began turning her head slowly to gaze at Nate.
Nate’s breathe seized, no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t breathe. His heart started pounding heavily. As his gaze met hers, a chill ran down his spine to his abdomen. A warm feeling engulfed his crotch.
"We can’t do Nate" she said. Her face kind of soft.
But as fast it came, it was erased and replaced with disgust.
"Did you just wee?"
"I...I..."
"You’re so insufferable Nate" she said with so much disgust as she turned her attention to look at Dan as he was still pacing outside the fortress.
Holding onto Soul Reaper.
"The old fashion way it is"
Dan then roared.. His voice reverberating through the walls.
"Who dare challenges me among you vile beasts?" Dan roared.
But no demon seemed to have heard him as the walls seemed to be too high. Dan roared again but still nothing happened.
He just watched as the demons kept on their patrol.
Are they ignoring me?
Dan gripped the handle of Soul Reaper tightly. His energy began surging up within his hands.
Taking a step back Dan took aim and throw Soul Reaper. The Katana streaked across the air.
It flew so fast through the air, crashing straight into the skull of one of the demons.
With a loud thud the demon fell down.
"That should get their attention"
Some demons then looked below, they neither shouted or said anything.
Dan waited a bit but then nothing happened.

The gates then began quiver. It then began opening up. From within it Dan could hear matching foot steps approach.
Demons began to march out of the fortress in a uniform formation. A smile formed on his face.
"I’m so dead now" he muttered in his heart.
The demons began to surround him. His heart was racing. He began taking deep breaths to slow his heart down but it didn’t seemed to be as effective as he thought. The demons then closed on him. Dan went down on both knees, his hands placed behind his head as they had surrounded him with their spears.
The demons had all worn a full armor that covered their whole bodies and the only place that was open was their helmets, which had some gaps.
Dan’s gaze flew to the rocks behind which Sigrid and Nate hid.
One of the demons walked up to Dan. A heavy armor was worn by the demon. His steps seemed to be slowed by the armor. The demon had two full grown horn. Which means it’s a high-tier demon.
Its steps weren’t hurried when he reached Dan. It looked into Dan’s eyes, before its gaze moved on to Dan’s body.
It seemed unimpressed and turn away from Dan as it began walking away. It gave the signal for Dan to be killed.
In response to the signal, two demons came and stood before Dan. Each held a spear.
"Don’t move and they will make it fast" the demon spoke as it moved away.
The two guards shot forward with their spears, which were both aimed at Dan’s chest.
But Dan tilted just enough to pass in between the two spears. And then he yanked the spears closer to himself.
The two demon guards fell forward. Dan immediately grabbed one of them by the throat while he stumped the others head on the ground. Dan broke the neck of the demon he held.
He pushed the body to the other demons. Some spears shot at him, but with light steps he was able to go back evading them all. Dan reached out to the closet demon to him. He grabbed on to the demons spear and broke it.
Dan then used the spear head and pierced it into the demons eyes where it’s armor didn’t cover. He then pulled the demons sword from its falling body. And rushed for the next demon and slashed the demon with one swift move.
Seeing they were being cut down one by one, the demons immediately swarmed him from all sides.
Dan tried fighting them off one by one but they wouldn’t let that tactics work again. Using their numbers they pressed forward. Dan’s wrist began hurting, his palms felt sore.
"Pretty sure I’ll have blisters"
Dan was now panting, but no matter how many he cut down. They still found a way to overwhelm him. Dan fought till he could move his joints no more.
Panting he finally let the sword go. As he did a piercing pain grew on his lap. A spear had been embedded there. Holding onto the spear Dan tried to yank it out. But was pierced on his shoulder again.
"Arh" he groaned.
He tried moving but he was immediately held down by the demons. They placed swords and spears at his throat.
The demons now began to part open, making way for something. From it came the higher level Demon. His face wasn’t filled with much annoyance as Dan had expected.
"It worked?" Dan asked himself within his heart.
"Bring him in" the demon said.
And with those words the back of a spear was used to knock the lights out of Dan.
Dan was being dragged across the floor into the dark fortress. As he was pulled he was taken in to the inner castle. And then lower below the castle.
The place was filled with deep darkness. Its was chilly, a vast contrast of the outside. The place had many cells each locked up with either dried up bones which were chained or sometimes very skinny demons.
The walls were kind of wet and even had moss growing on them. Dan was dragged and placed within one of those cells.
But he was still out cold and didn’t notice any of this.
***** Second Heaven: demigod camp
In the red tent which Dan had been in before, Baozhai is seated there. He is seated and eating an apple when someone walks in.
It was no other than Zuberi. His face ever shinning but below his eyes were still dark.
"Any news?"
"We just got word from Sigrid and she said he had accepted" Zuberi said.
"Mmm good" he said as he took another bite of the apple.
"Don’t you think we have gone too far by sending him behind enemy lines alone? I mean even we couldn’t take down that fortress if we wanted"
Baozhai said nothing but just kept eating the apple. Zuberi watched him as he took more bites before he finally dropped the apple and walked up to him.
Baozhai then placed his hands on Zuberi’s shoulder.
"Brother, have ever made a plan that failed?"
"No" came the reply.
"Have I ever lost a battle?"
"No" was the reply again.
"Then you have nothing to worry about then. Because the only way to destroy an impenetrable fortress like that is from the inside."
"So, gear up and be ready, for the land is soon going to be soiled in demon blood," Baozhai said as his eyes lay on his hanging armor and blade.
***** Second Heaven: Fortress
The sound of chains could be heard rattling every now and then. In one of those cells, a man lay. His breathing getting faster. His moved slightly. And then finally....
His eyes opened....
And they glowed....
