My Kitsune System-Chapter 41: Beyond the walls of the fortress
The sound of chains could be heard rattling every now and then. In one of those cells, a man lay. His breathing was getting faster before it then slowed down. He moved slightly. And then finally....
His eyes opened....
And they glowed....
****The sound of the wind could be heard as it gently passed through the underground cells. Its cold hands caressed the cheeks of the half-dead prisoners, their only way of knowing that they haven’t passed unto the great beyond.
Among the prisoners, only one didn’t seem to have any horns as the others did. Instead his face had become quite swollen from the constant visits he gets from the supposed warden.
Apart from the swells here and there on his face. His face also had dirt on it, with dried blood accompanying it.
He doesn’t know how many days have passed nor how many bones have been broken, repaired, and then broken again.
If this is what agony tastes like, then it’s quite bitter
Dan had almost given up hope of ever leaving this dungeon, but the last notification the system gave was all that gave him hope.

Quest: Escape the fortress and meet up with the other demigods
Reward: 20 divine embers
Bonus quest: Kill the higher-tier demon
Reward: 50 divine embers
Not only does this system want me to escape this fortress but it wants me to kill a higher-teir demon? I can’t even leave this cell.
Dan was thinking as he tried adjusting a bit.
Crack!!!
A sound was heard, it had echoed a bit through the cells. A low groan escaped Dan’s lips.
I wish I was home now he said within his heart.
A smile began forming on his face when he thought about home. When he thought of all the good times, when he didn’t have to worry about tomorrow or later. All that didn’t matter to him then. Only goes out to play with his friends and comes back home late.
The thought of him not needing to protect himself as he had someone strong enough to protect him. And so he gave care to the wind.
But all that was gone now. All he had now were rattling chains, a cold dungeon, and a sadistic demon as a warden.
What more can life throw at me that isn’t worse than this?....
You know what I don’t even want to find out...
Dan had his hands above his head and chained up. His hands had hurt, and now they had even gone numb to the pain.
He then looked at the heavy shackles.
Should I just twist my wrist till I break my fingers then I’ll be free of the shackles? Would it immediately regenerate? because if they don’t I’ll just be back to square one.
Dan then took in a very deep breath. The energy circulation began to increase. The wounds on his body began to heal again. As he had stopped it to conserve his life essence.
Crack!!!
The sound of bones could be heard. All Dan’s bones that had been misaligned began going back into place.
The system then sent him a notification.

Then it stopped, and the door to the dungeon opened. A being could be heard coming down the stairs.
Right on time. Dan smiled.
With every step the warden took. The keys on his side jiggled with every step he took. The warden passed all the cells without even giving the half-dead prisoners a glance.
The warden stopped in front of the cell of the only human they had. Juggling his keys a bit, he opened the cell.
The demon dropped the keys on a table by the side. Before he went to the corner of the cell to pull off his heavy armor. The demon was decently built. He had built muscles at the right places.
He had one horn, with the other one just beginning to grow out. On its face, it had a scar on one of its eyes.
After it had pulled off its armor. The demon brought out a box that was filled with different kinds of knives. Some are very long, while some are extremely short. Within that same box were mallets, too.
It began bringing out the blades. And arranging them on the table. It also brought out a kind of cloth which it kept beside the knives.
"So, how was your night?" the demon spoke.
The cell was filled with silence. It didn’t even echo.
"Mine was fine, though if you must know," it said as it took one of the smaller blades and examined it.
"So you know I missed you though? like the fun times we had." The demon smiled its canines glistened in the dark.
"I know you must be thinking I am crazy..." it laughed...
"Trying to have a conversation with my almost dead prisoner... but then why not? There’s this joy that comes with causing others pain. You know? like a thrill that courses through you when you see the groan and agony on their faces... Yes, agony..."
"It makes my heart beat faster... the adrenaline rush... it’s just exquisite." It said as it came and knelt down before Dan.
"So, forgive me if I am having so much fun with this.. Because, as you know, it’s not every day these cells see a demigod.. you know"
"Also, it will be much appreciated if you don’t break... at least not yet.. Do wait till I have gotten the most fun out of you..."
"So, what do you say? Can you do that for me?" the demon asked as it stabbed the blade into Dan’s lap.
The blade easily passed through Dan’s flesh and cut past his muscles. It stopped directly on his bone.
From his lower abdomen, a shout wanted to erupt out. But he knew he couldn’t because if he did, he would blow his cover that he was not half dead. He shut his eyes and kept the scream stuck in his throat.
Tears formed, filling his eyes and rolling down his cheeks. The white part of his eyes began turning red.
The demon stared into those eyes.
"Ahh, I love that, a strong demigod to the core. Just a few more weeks and you can break," it said.
The demon took a step back. Going back to the table, to take up the cloth and used it to elegantly clean the blade.
"So, you know we have to keep the blades clean so you don’t get infected when next we use it" The demon smiled.
The demon took a mallet. While its other hand hovered over the blades.
"Ah, here it is," the demon said as it took up a knife that was quite small and kind of compressed. To some, it may even pass as a dart, just that it had sharp edges.
"Now, tell me what do the demigods have planned?" the demon’s expression immediately turning dark. It began walking close to Dan.
"Why did you come here?" it said as it knelt before Dan. It waited, but it got no reply from Dan.
"Not, replying are we? Well, fair enough."
The demon took one of the dart-like blades and placed it on Dan’s hanging palm on the wall.
It then struck it straight through Dan’s palm, crushing every bone in its path till it came out through the other side.
A jolt went through Dan’s body, his palm had gone numb. He still wanted to scream again, but he held it. Biting hard against his lips, a taste of salt was now on his tongue.
His fingers began to shake. He couldn’t hear well. All he could think of was escape. He needed a way out. He needed to leave this place. Damn the gods and even fate it self.
Life can’t be set in stone. This can not be my destiny... to suffer and die here....
He tried reaching out to the shadows. He could feel them but they didn’t respond to his call. This all had to be because of the shackles that held him.
Again, the demon went back to the table to go through his equipment.
Blood began to drip down from Dan’s palm unto his hair. Dan watched as the demon rummaged through the equipment.
What is he going to bring out next?
Dan then grabbed on to the nail that was in his palm. Gritting his teeth, he began to use his bones to pull it out of the wall.
His teeth had now turned red. Never stopping, he kept trying to pull it out. Blood trickled down, but he never stopped. Short jolts of pain and numbness were sent through his body, but he never stopped. Instead, he kept pulling it out.
The demon was done picking his next torture weapon. It wasn’t anything much actually. After it had searched through the place for a while, it had finally found something.
It had found a saw...
"Ah, there it is" the demon said with a smile on it’s face.
"You know after all our numerous meetings I actually never got to use this.... So, how about you give me a souvenir?"
