My Kitsune System-Chapter 37: Tamamo-no-Mae
A fine blade was thrust at him. He tried to deflect it with Soul Reaper but found the attack too strong, and he was pushed back.
Dan tried standing his ground and put the attackers at bay when he noticed he had already been surrounded by three powerful foes. Each emitting a very strong aura.
The three folks looked quite distinct from each other.
The first had white hair that looked too silky for a guy. On his face was a bland expression. Around him, there seemed to be a kind of chilling aura. He was the one who had used the fine sword to attack Dan.
The next had burly hair. It was kind of red in color. He wore a kind of heavy armor. Unlike the previous demigod, he didn’t make use of blades but wore gauntlets instead.
The last of the three looked quite lithe. He had little muscle, but his physique was quite defined. His skin tone was light brown. His hair was curly and black. His eyes had bags underneath them, as though he hadn’t slept in a while. In his hands, he held two scythes instead of the normal blades. He was also adorned with various jewelry.
Looking at them all, Dan knew escaping was nothing more than a fleeting dream.
If what Nate said is true, with just one of them being able to kill me. Then what about three? The best course of action will be to clear up the misunderstanding. I need to show them that I am not here for a fight.
Dan removed his hands from Soul Reaper’s handle, and that was all the other demigods needed. For Dan to make a move.
The white haired demigod immediately moved in, his blade drawn and set on a chartered course. Its destination was none other than Dan’s neck, with nothing being able to bar its path.
Waiiittt!!! Dan screamed within his mind
But it was already too late; the demigod had already reached.
The blade was already upon Dan, he was mere seconds from losing his head.
Dan’s heart began beating hard. But there was only one truth in this situation. There was nothing he could do. No amount of adrenaline can save him from the attack.
The demi-god was already a tier above him in power. No matter how hard he tried, he knew the attack would land.
Probably I can slow the blade down so my head isn’t cut off cleanly.
Activating his ninefold claw, his hands began being covered with a gauntlet-type weapon on his hands.
Dan raised his hands to try and bar the path of the blade. He wasn’t successful in doing that. Instead, he was able to change its trajectory, and he saved his neck. The blade still drew a decent amount of his blood, but not enough to have him bleed to death.
But that was just the beginning of Dan’s misery. Because the next second something strong and hard smashed into him from behind. He could feel his spine scream in protest.
Not allowing himself to fall, he immediately pulled out Soul Reaper.
I have to use the Phantom Requim to create a distraction and escape from here
The shadows around immediately flared up as if answering Dan’s call. Holding Soul Reaper to unleash his technique. Dan saw that they didn’t approach him.
As the shadows flared and got into Soul Reaper. Dan was about to unleash the technique when he noticed that the shadows didn’t move but stayed in place. He could see them swirling as if ready to answer his call. But then they didn’t act.
Why aren’t they doing my beading? What is wrong?
In his moment of confusion, he noticed a cold energy seeping into the field. It wasn’t the usual cold feeling of frost, nor was it chilly. This was entirely different. This was something much more sinister. And it wasn’t from him. As he looked around he noticed that the lithe demi-god was the one.
His eyes had turned black, and he was muttering some words to the shadows. It was as if he was talking to them.
Dan looked at the shadows one more time. They weren’t swirling to answer his call. But they shook in fear of defying the lithe demi-god.
So this the power of a greater demi-god.
"I have no chance of escape," Dan whispered to himself. A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Divine storms," the white haired demi-god said.
Those words echoed around the plain, changing it as it did. They began turning dark blue and wavy.
Only Dan and the white haired demigod were on what looked like a sea.
Is this an illusion?
Before Dan knew it he was being pulled down into the stormy sea. He tried swimming to the top but found the waves pushing against him, sending him deeper into the sea. He soon found himself drowning within the sea.
He kept being pulled deeper down into the sea. He was now being enveloped by the sea’s darkness. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t reach the surface.
"If you keep going, you know he would die, right?" the lithe demigod spoke.
"And is there something wrong with that?"
"Not that something is wrong with that, but I just feel dealing with the aftermath will be a chore. And you know I don’t like chores, Renjiro," he spoke, dreading the feeling of having to work.
"We would be doing humanity a lot of good if we get rid of him, "Renjiro spoke.
The burly-headed demigod came forward to look at Dan. He stared at Dan’s body as he noticed Dan had not only passed out but was at the brink of death.
"I think we should first hear what he has to say about using demonic techniques. He is one of us after all."
"And we can hear what little Nate has to say about moving around with someone who uses demonic techniques," he said as he turned to look at Nate, who had been trying to remain still. In hopes he would not be noticed.
"Are you sure that is a good idea, Baozhai?"
"Yes, I am."
Baozhai then turned to look at the light brown demigod.
"Zuberi, you should take him to the camp. And you, Nate, come with me."
The two immediately moved and did as they were told.
Renjiro watched as Baozhai walked away with Nate.
"You’re gonna get us killed one day."
Dan had been out cold for a while now. Zuberi had taken him to the camp and kept him in one of the tents.
Dan then began hearing whispers. The more he grew conscious, the more he came to understand that they weren’t whispers but people having an actual conversation.
He opened his eyes to notice he was in a tent. The camp looked quite spacious, and the tent had sun embroidery on it.
A round table was found at the center. The three demi-gods he had met earlier were there. But they weren’t the only ones who were there.
There were many more other demigods there.
"So, with the information we had received from the council. The killing stone should be around this area," she said as she pointed at something on the round table.
The girl who spoke was a very fair-skinned lady. She had hair that was blonde in color. Though the hair was braided at the sides, she had her hair shaved. She wore chainmail, and underneath it was a padded armor.
Behind her were two axes, all of which had bold engravings on them. Dan didn’t understand what they meant. But he was sure it was some inspiring words used to go into battle with.
On her arms, she had a kind of tattoo. Although they were under the scorching heat. She still wore an overcoat made of fur; it was of a beast Dan had never seen before. As if she was preparing for winter itself.
Realizing Dan had woken up, she stopped talking.
"I think that should be all for now," she said. Her eyes bore deep holes into Dan before she turned and headed out of the tent. Behind her, some demigods who also seemed to be dressed for the winter followed her out of the tenth.
Some other demigods followed the train and moved out of the tent. But all had a thing in common. They all had faces filled with disdain as they left.
"Don’t mind them," A voice said. Dan turned to see that it was one of the three demigods he had met earlier. It was the one with the red hair.
"They aren’t really used to seeing foxes that aren’t evil or tricksters," the burly demi-god spoke as he got closer to Dan and squatted before him.
Dan didn’t know why, but there was something about him that felt familiar, but he couldn’t tell what it was.
"Especially now that they are hunting an evil fox spirit." The demigod said as he looked Dan in the eyes.
"Evil fox spirit?"
"Yes, Tamamo-no-Mae"
