My Kitsune System-Chapter 36: Demigod camp
It had been a while now since Dan and Nate left the cave. Ever since Dan had heard about Nate’s ordeal and how it resonated with him, he kind of grew a soft spot for him.
Though a lot of beings have fallen to his blade, Dan wasn’t completely cold hearted as some beings would think. Instead, he may actually be soft, though.
They had now been traversing the scorching plains of the second heaven in silence. The gruesome sun was ever shining and burning the skin of the realm’s inhabitants.
"So, why do you always wear a mask?" Nate started a conversation.
Dan kept walking and did not answer. His eyes still remained forward when he felt uneasy. He felt as though something was gazing into his very soul.
He then turned only to notice Nate won’t let the question go.
"Huh," Dan sighed.
"Let’s just say to just keep my identity hidden."
"A hidden identity? Who are you hiding from?" the boy asked as he began staring around to see if they were being followed.
"A lot of bad people."
"Bad people?"
"Yes, bad people."
Nate now abruptly stopped.
His fist began to tighten.
"Are you a bad person?"
Dan immediately stopped in his tracks. He now stared at Nate and wondered what to say.
"Am I a bad person? Hmmm. It actually depends."
"Depends? depends on what?"
"It depends on my mood."
Nate now stiffened.
"I didn’t mean that it was kind of an attempt to a bad joke." Dan gave an uneasy chuckle.
"It really does depend on my mood, though," Dan said to himself.
"But some people want me dead, though. That’s why I wear the mask, though."
They continued walking in silence again before Nate had something to say again.
"And you are hiding from them in the second heaven?"
"Kind of."
Nate now looked at Dan with a dumb expression.
I now sound stupid.... huh.. let’s switch the topic.
"So tell me about your party?"
"About they may kill you."
"Okay..."
wait ... what
Dan immediately paused and turned to look at Nate.
Nate had his mouth sealed after he spoke those words.
What does he mean they may kill me? And why isn’t he talking? Does he want me to pull the answers out of him?
Dan’s eyes began glowing gold, his hands clenched. In his mind roamed various thoughts of how to pull the information out of young Nate.
"Calm down, Dan. He’s just a child.... He’s just a child...
"What do you mean by they may kill me?"
"Because you aren’t strong enough to kill them"
"And why do you say so?"
"Well, because you had a hard time killing the mid-tier demon when you rescued me."
"And what makes you say that?"
"Well, I do have cousins and friends who usually go out to fight demons or other demigods. They usually get injured when that happens. Their body are able to regenerate, but that doesn’t mean that the place still doest hurt."
"Okay?"
"Your right arm is hurt. You have a hard time moving it, unlike your left arm. And if I am to guess, it’s from the fight with the mid-tier demon."
He is smart. I’ll give him that...
"Hmm... Let’s say your deduction is correct. That doesn’t mean they can kill me?"
"Well, the people at my party are greater demigods. They can easily kill a horde of mid-tier demons, while you, on the other hand, I think, is a lesser demigod. Due to the fact that you had a bit of a hard time killing the mid-tier demon."
Still at the bottom of the food chain, even after all this work
"Okay, then, tell me more about the demigod hierarchy."
"You don’t know the demigod hierarchy?" Nate asked with his eyes wide open.
"No, not really. I just need a refresher course."
"No, you don’t know it," Young Nate said as he smiled, he actually did his best not to laugh at Dan.
"Well, there are various tiers for a demigod. With the first one being an awakened demigod. In this initial stage, the demigod is newly awakened and is trying to grasp his newfound power. At this stage, their bloodline abilities are sill locked, they only have increase in agility, strength and other physique related attributes."
Just like when I had awakened too after care incident
"The second stage is the ascended demigod. At this stage the demigod just gets another major boost in physique. And then begins to learn to control Ki."
"Ki? What’s that?"
"It’s basically the energy within our bodies."
It seems Ryan skipped that class
"Okay, what’s the third stage then?"
"The lesser demigod where you are right now. Here the demigod begins to unlock the powers of their bloodline and actually on the path of ascension."
Path of ascension
"I am sure the next stage after the lesser demigod is the greater demigod?"
"Yes, in that stage I heard you can have control over various elements water, lightening, fire actually anything" Nate said with so much glee.
"Okay, control over elementals" Dan said as he looked at his shadow
Maybe I am closer to a greater demigod than I think
"And the fifth stage?"
"I really don’t know much about it" Nate said shyly.
"They always said I was too young to know such things" he said grudgly.
"Oh,"
"But I do know at that stage one has then truely began to touch godhood and shed of the shackles of humanity"
Now that sounds powerful
Dan then turned so that they could continue on their journey.
"So, why are so many powerful demigods here?" Dan broke the silence
Atleast if I know what they came here for. It may not have to end in a battle.
"Hunting... we came here to hunt," Nate said.
Hunting? What were they hunting for?
"If I were to ask you what you came here hunting, you won’t say, would you?"
Young Nate nodded in agreement and with that they both continued in silence.
Dan decided to escort the boy deeper into the second heaven. Along the way, they came in contact with more low-level demons. They killed those they could kill and avoided those they couldn’t.
As they got deeper into the center of the second heaven. Dan was sweating more than often and wearing the mask at all times wasn’t helping one bit.
It seems the further we go in, the hotter it is. At this point, it seems the realm itself is boiling.
He then turned to look at the Nate, who didn’t seem to be bothered at all by the heat.
How is he so calm and collected under this heat? Dan thought
I really don’t mind going stark naked here just to give my skin some air... but then my skin will get burnt..
Dan then gave up his thoughts as he tried to continue walking.
They had walked for a while when finally they approached a kind of valley. As they got closer, Dan noticed the many tents had been pitched. There wasn’t just one or two demigods but dozens of them.
But that wasn’t the mind-bugging thing; it was the fact that he actually saw vegetation. Not only was there vegetation there but also the fact that, he actually saw a stream flowing within that little camp.
So that’s the power of a greater demigod? they can even rewrite the rules
On looking round the camp he noticed that the camp had various emblems around it. The first one seemed to be that of the sun.
Dan suddenly felt something was amiss. He felt like powerful beings had locked onto him and no matter how far he ran, he couldn’t shake them off.
"I think they should have detected us by now" Dan spoke.
.Dan immediately pulled out Soul Reaper as he felt the beings approaching with speed. Dan moved to protect Nate and himself.
He was even done getting into position when-
A fine blade was thrust at him. He tried to deflect it with Soul Reaper but found the attack too strong, and he was pushed back.
Dan tried standing his ground and put the attackers at bay when he noticed he had already been surrounded by three powerful foes. Each emitting a very strong aura.
